Yeah!! Thumbs up to you, Docride!!!

Dear Docride,
hi once more!

I have now read up on your leather care recommendations. Very interesting, thank you!
If I sum it up, your suggestions for black box calf are:
- Always use uncoloured stuff (unless, of course you want to re-colour, stain etc.)
- Use e.g. Saphir Renomat to clean like every two years or so. (I have no idea how the bag's been treated before, so this might be a good idea.)
- Use a light cream or lotion. I have trouble finding "Saphir Universal". Has it been rebranded? Best avoid e.g. Saphir Renovateur as it can be to greasy. (I actually got this tip from a kind fellow member, who has success with this, but you are hesistant, correct?)
- Use e.g. Saphir Super Invulvner for water protection.
Is this correct?

Thanks again! I will let you know how this goes!

Hi Docride!
I'm hoping to get your advice once again on a Kelly (ardennes leather) I just purchased. Overall the bag was as described but there is a cut in the leather on the flap, which was not in the description. The cut does not go all the way through the flap but definitely seems to go through the top layer and down into what looks like the softer suede part. I've reached out to the seller but haven't heard back yet. I am extremely disappointed because this bag was priced on the higher side compared to what else is out there and its in such nice condition otherwise. Is there anything I, or Hermes, can do? Will it continue to rip/peel? I don't know if I'll be offered a partial refund, full refund or nothing at all (their policy is no returns). What can/should I do? Thank you.

Hi Docride, I have this GP in TC for 5 years, it is very lightly used. I kept it at my mom’s place for a while and my mom just leave it standing on the shelf, after a few month, it is all sagged and wrinkled. I feel such great pity for it! What can I do to save it?IMG_1519877976.944479.jpgIMG_1519878038.091087.jpgIMG_1519878067.209325.jpgIMG_1519878090.034530.jpg

Hey there!
Geez I’m sure sorry this happened
I don’t like to buy expensive items from sellers with no return policies eek
This is a major thing not a scratch
It looks like a cut or crack
I can’t say if the cut will get worse if it’s a crack I would say yes
Do you like the bag otherwise has it been painted? Can I see more photos ?
If you otherwise love and I do mean love the bag. Keep it and have the cut or crack filled by a professional
If it’s not love love and you are too upset to enjoy the bag then call the seller or your credit card company for help. ?
Good luck hugs

Hi there.
Best thing to do is to stuff the bag so it stays straighter and lay the bag on it’s back when not in use . I can help keep it from getting worse but not reverse the slouch
All the best doc

Hi Doc!
I know! I am so not a fan of a "no returns policy" but the seller had such good feedback and was recommended by tPF so i took the plunge. Lesson learned!

I was fearful that you would say its a major thing. To my untrained eye, it looks more like a cut because there's almost a flap, if that makes sense. I can certainly upload more photos. Is there a certain/better angle that would help you identify it better?

I don't believe the bag has been painted but i'm not too sure what to look for to determine that. Are there telltale signs I can look for? Or photos of areas that I can post to help you determine?

I do love the bag but more so because its in ardennes leather and is structurally very sound. I would consider keeping it, since ardennes seems a bit hard to come by (?). Would the fill prevent the cut from getting worse (if it is a cut and not a crack)?

Thank you so much.

Hi Doc! I wondered if you might give your thoughts on my situation before I proceed. I have a barenia B30 that is just over a year old and has a pale strip along the back bottom and one side of the bag. Probably from brushing up on my pants when walking?

Based on what I’ve read on your recommendations, I’m thinking some Saphir Greasy Leather cream might help? My question is, do I just apply with a Qtip on the light areas or should I treat the entire bag?

I haven’t ordered anything yet because I don’t want to make it worse. I bought this bag as an everyday bag so I’m fine with some character but not crazy about a pale strip running down the bag. I also live in the desert and everything is dry here!!

Am I on the right track? Thanks so much!!!

Hello doc,
debating on this preloved bag, pics sent from seller
not sure if these scratches are beyond repair? Seller says it is swift leather, but I think it is more like Sombero leather
bag is from 2012 . Would the wipes be able to buff them out?

Hi , I’d clean the bag first then have a look afterward
A conditioner may or may not make this more or less noticeable no guarantees
That line is over the pocket seam inside correct ? So the bag might be a bit stretched there as well
It’s hard to tell from the photos but it looks like you have some dirt or color transfer or rubbed area on the back of the bag ? (The last of Which would be normal )
Sometimes just cleaning can help move the oils around and give you a more even appearance
I would Never recommend trying to spot treat barenia.

Hi,
Fillers can help make the cut less noticeable if the area bends and flexes often it might not stay and pop out
Glued might help but again if the area bends and flexes and you can’t get the sides of the cut to touch during the cure process it probably won’t hold really well
It this is all guessing
I can not say if it’s going to get worse as I don’t have the leather in hand to make a better guess
I think you should talk with your seller
I’m only privy to one side of the situation here
Perhaps it’s just an simple over-site by the seller it seems like most sellers want to work things out to keep customers happy and protect their reputations? Perhaps ?
I’d address the seller and see if they can help?

Thanks so much...I have used Lexol wipes on the bag but will try an overall cleaning.

Hello sorry I dont understand “will The wipes buff them out? “

Hey there, Those scratches are going to stay
Conditioning might help them look less noticeable but they will not disappear or heal
That’s a really nice leather I like it very much but it does have an organic campy vibe and it will get a distressed look over time
I hope this helped?

I would Never recommend trying to spot treat barenia. Your bag is going to develop and distress with your use
Applying a conditioner or oils over a worn area usually results in darkening that area . So one must decide if they want lightened area or a darker area rather than imagining it will be a perfectly blended afterward as this is seldom the case.
