Hi docride, sorry but what I meant was for example vache and finished leathers has some specific products mentioned for cleaning/weather protection/conditioning but barenia doesn't, the only mention to use saphir for greasy leather if it is very pale and dry. Was hoping to know what are the products for general cleaning and conditioning in case I have some already e.g meltonian cleaner. But I will keep your line of products in mind as well
Those are what i recommend ... I'm not sure what else you'd like? Weather protection is not needed for barenia so I don't mention it, cleaning can be accomplished with a water dampened wash cloth... But I guess you wanted something else? :) And yes you can use what was on your list also I simply do not recommend what folks might get into to trouble with... because they do. I seek to avoid tears always. Thank you for understanding.
All the best,doc

Oh, so a dampened wash cloth is sufficient, kept thinking some kind of leather product is required to ensure dirt is lifted  noted on that and on the saphir greasy if conditioning required. Thanks for your patience in clarifying my questions! :sweatdrop:

Dear docride,
I posted this in a separate thread before I got the tip to contact you.

I am considering buying this black Kelly in box leather. I think box is beautiful, but I know that many consider it a pain to keep in great condition. (I don't own a box yet, nor even a Kelly, so this is fulfilling a dream for me.)
It has some scratches, but most importantly, it has quite a significant dent on the front. According to the seller, it is an impression from the clochette and has not been tried to be buffed out. I have contacted my nearest Hermès store, but of course they cannot state whether or not this can be fixed prior to sending it to Paris.
So, if you can, please advise: Can this be repaired? If so, any thoughts on costs (in Europe)? Thanks so much in Bag 1.png advance! Bag 3.png Bag 2.png

Hi there,
Hmm, that looks like more than a dent it looks like the leather s damaged as well in the photos. A dent can often be sorted out by conditioning the leather well and then stuffing it tightly to push the bump out from the inside... but I would not expect perfection. If the idea of this blemish bothers you knowing it wont be 100% fixed... how do you feel about this bag?
I have no idea what it would cost to send to Paris... personally I think its something that could be handled by you or a trusted local craftsman.
Often what you may think is a dent is in fact leather which is stretched out and in dented... so you push it back out but then you may have a bubbled out surface... so that's something to keep in mind.
Vintage Black Box Caf Kelly bags are hardly hard to come by... and can be found a decent prices as well... I would consider that and its condition before pulling the trigger.

NOTE> I think its key to actually buy a bag on its merits as is... not on its possible eventual perfection especially because that reality maybe a fantasy and costly to boot! (just saying)

Additional note> Also Box calf I think is pretty easy to care for and well worth the effort. :)
All the best,doc

Dear Docride,
I really appreciate your reply. I think that was excellent advice, not just on the bag itself but in general. I will not pursue this bag but continue to search.
Thank you so much!!

I didn’t want to interrupt you gals
Did someone get a super rare and cool Vn k25?
I am still considering :) but decided to hold off another possibly being offered quota bag in store in around a week "Possibly" lol. If still available after that and no quota bag i may snap it up and give it some docride TLC haha!

Hi Docride,

Thanks in advance for your help, as always!

I am looking at a clutch in box leather with multiple pen marks... Any remedy for this? Should I go ahead with the purchase? Thank you!

Hello
Pen marks which have been on a bag like this for longer than 12hrs are usually set in and migrated through the finish
Personally it’seven for a professional it is going to be a challenge which will most likely not result in a perfect outcome.
This is not a do it yourself at home project
Personally I would pass rather than buying hoping it can be made to look as though it never had pen marks
I hope that helps?

Dear Docride,
now I am asking for your kind help once more, I know. You had such good advice last time so I can't help myself. ;)
I have found a new bag that I am interested in, it's a vintage Kelly box sellier. There are some scuff marks on the outside of the bag and I am wondering if you can tell from the pictures if the bag can be polished/treated (by me, preferably) so that the marks' appearance diminish. To me, they don't look that bad.

Thank you so much in advance!

You can do well with a damp wash cloth there are other leather cleansers that work nicely I prefer never to use harsh cleansers on unfinished leathers you can certainly test them in a hidden area. The reasons I do not recommend various treatments is because i can not list some because folks get into trouble because all too often they don't follow directions and then blame me or I spend hours trying to help undo a disaster and although there are easier products to use which I like very much because i produce them and that goes against TPF policy to mention them here. Thank you for understanding
Im sure if you google you can find references for what you seek.

I was naive in thinking that maybe I can fix it but I will probably pass it this time...

Thanks!
