Dear docride!
Could you please give me advice how to clean lizard?
I have a vintage Lizard Kelly and the handle has darkened a lot.
I would also like to clean up the whole bag a little bit.
Any recommendations on a product that I could use?
Your help is really appreciated! Thanks a lot!

Hi again
I want to add you might carefully use a degreaser but this is a delicate and thin skin and generally it’s easy to get it to dry out too much and then it can crack and lift away from the supporting leather it’s attached to. So caution is the word here.

Perhaps take it to Hermes or a trusted professional?

Good luck doc

Hello there
This looks like natural color veau Charmonix
The surface color has been scratched and worn away in areas so even though you conditioned it very well the areas with color-loss will still remain.
This bag could be color restored in the right hands
And it could be dyed in the right hands also.
I would however make sure the folks doing the job are conservative and in keeping with the beauty of the bag and not give you a plastic looking result.
Have I answered your questions?
All the best
Doc
Thank you for your reply, much appreciated :)

Hi Docride,
How are you doing? What do you think of its condition, not too dry right? What leather is this bag? Is it Charmonix? I'm not sure. Thanks so much for help as always!

Dear docride,

this Kelly is already gone however I would like to learn for potential future purchases. This one had been declared as box but I think it is vache Natural and although stated as "like new", I think is has tarnishing/pitting on lock and lock plate. There are two other things that actually concerned me more which is that white abrasion on the corner and the handle. I understand that vache Natural corners cannot really be restored like on other leathers, but how bad or deep is the scuff when you see the white? For the handle (near the ring), the seam seems to be bit off. Is this normal production variation or did the seam open and someone tried to glue it back together? Would greatly appreciate your advice and hope to make my first vintage purchase a success.

Dear docride,
I’ve somehow managed to get a nasty spot on my barenia faubourg Birkin! I hope that I’ve done the right thing by blotting the stain with a damp white towel. Is there anything else I should do to remove the stain. I’m sad to say that I don’t even know what the stain is! I walked from my car into my house and voila! A huge white stain. .
Thank you so much for any guidance!image.jpg
As you can see it is still a bit damp from the cloth I used but that is mostly the stain.
I appreciate any advice!

Dear Docride,

Are you familiar with the leather Chevre Chandra? I came across this bag, which Ir quite like. the seller sent me photos. The bag is still new, but with some visible scratches. Do you know if they will go away? Or is this something Hermes can fix?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best wishes,
Mijia

Hi Doc,

I have a 2 years old but relatively new( played with it at home occasionally, not brought out yet), Box Constance.

I have neglected it lately and brought it out again to discover mould over the leather. Hence, I used a soft dry cloth to clean it away.

However, there are still faint shadow/ stains of mould remaining if you really scrutinise the leather closely.
Do you think I should send it back to H for cleaning or I can continue keeping it in closet after wiping it clean? I’m just worried more mould may sprout when I’m not aware.

Thank u.

Hello,
Are you sure that's Mold?
The bag could probably use a bit of a gentle conditioning if its been sitting without care for a few years... Certainly you can send it for spa
Maybe put some moisture absorbing packs around the bags storage area if Mold is a problem where you live?
All the best,doc

Sorry for the late reply, Im back now...
When those scratches press and flatten the texture like I see here, they'll tend to stay a permanent mark ... However if there are scratches with some color loss often some conditioning at spa can improve the look of them. I hope this helped.

Hi Doc!

Can this 90's vintage ostrich Kelly be salvaged or would it be a lost cause?
Hope to hear from you soon!

Hello I think I already commented on this bag in another thread... but I will add the same response here...If you already own it and you didn't just buy it then y all means try to restore it. If you bought it I'd say have it checked out by the authenticattors before deciding to keep the bag or proceed in a restoration. All the best, doc.
