Hi doc,

I had my bag authenticated and was initially described to be VN and was told that there was definite coating or colour as the sheen showing in photos is not consistent to VN, but due to the extra photos in authenticating it’s now more consistent to Veau Chamonix.

Hi there
Well you can go with that person’s opinion then no worries.
If you believe the bag to be Charmonix go for it
Charmonix is essentially matte box calf it has a heavy colored finish on it.
So if you believe this bag to be veau Charmonix then do treat it accordingly as you would to box calf. Good luck [emoji256]

Hi Doc,

I found this GP Amazonia from my mom storage room, I heard that Amazonia can turn out very bad if you didn’t care it right obviously my mom never did anything to it!

Do you think this can be fix or do know anyone who attempts to fix this peeling off issue?

Thanks :)

Hello there,
Well you have a dozy here... basically amazonia is a rubberized canvas and when the rubber has checked and cracked and fallen away its not going to just patch up... Hermes does not service amazonia... they sold them with some wipes back in the day...
Id brush off as much of the cracking stuff with a stiff brush and apply some clear conitioners for rubber to help stabilize or after cleaning make an art bag with it ? Do something fun with paints? Good Luck, doc

Hi Docride,
Hoping you can help answer a question with regards to my new Barenia Faubourg Birkin. There are two areas almost in identical spots behind the handles that look to be either dye from the edge of the handle or dye from the Hermes ribbon that I used as a twilly. I tried to rub it out but that seemed to spread the issue slightly. I have looked all over in your posts and see that you have addressed Barenia care but do you have any recommendations for those of us that have purchased this fairly new BF? The marks are not terribly offensive and are not that noticeable when the handle is in its normal position but I would prefer them to be gone. There are areas especially on the bottom corners that show some dye markings that appear to be the exact same color as these behind the handle marks when the bag was taken right out of the box from the store. Thank you so much for any thoughts you might have.

Hi Doc,

I just received a Barenia Evelyne GM that I had been on the hunt for. Unfortunately, it’s not in quite the condition I had hoped. There is some unexpected blue paint, a pen mark, and the leather is quite dry. I have a couple of other Barenia bags and this is a different hand feel. Please help me to refresh this beauty.

I have:
Lexol conditioning wipes
Blackrocks Leather N Rich
Obenaugh’s Heavy Duty
Melatonin Clear
A whole bunch of other random oils and conditioners

Doc and Friends,
Without doing anything too crazy I’ve put a little elbow grease into this bag over the past couple of days. This is my final day to decide if it’s a keeper. Any thoughts? It’s still pretty dirty and dry. What’s my next move?

Hi how about you show me the marks on the bottom too?

Hi how about you show me the marks on the bottom too?
First off I thank you for your response and thank you in advance for any possible help or suggestions that you can provide. I'm attaching pictures highlighted with the flash on. It looks far worse being illuminated it than it actually does in natural light. Ttheareas behind the handles are a bit more toublesome to me. While I waited for your response I took the liberty of purchasing the lexol leather cleaner but I have not used it. I await your response and again thank you.

Hi There,
Well in my opinion from what can see, this is like bruising or dents or from pushing in or rubbing on the new top layer of the barenia.. like from the handles pushing on the bag... or the bag bumping around in the box with shipping. Have a look with a loupe or magnifying glass to be sure. I would NOT use Lexol Conditioning wipes on Bareina ever. Nor would I encourage rubbing with cleaning products (I don't think you have something to clean off), as rubbing and pressure will most likely result in further pressing in or bruising of the surface further.
I can certainly be wrong on this, I am going on what I see in the photos..
Over use and time your bag will gain more bumps and dents and rubs and bruises ... not actual bruises but you get the idea.. when you press in or rub on this unfinished oily leather the texture gets pressed down/flattened and the oils kind of raise a bit too the surface looking darker than the rest of the surrounding leather...
Welcome to the start of your barenia fabourge patina...
I have seen another couple oof barenia fabourge myself brand new out of the box from Hermes some had marks similar to what you showed me..
if its a deal breaker pass on the bag... On the other hand...if you love this leather then embrace this characteristic and be happy you didn't make the first marks which can be stressful.
All the best,doc

Hi ,
If you worked on it, you shouldn't send it back right? Elbow grease? Did you clean it? It looks good right? For more care and upkeep of barenia leather such you can check out my thread on Hermes leather care recommendations in the reference section.
The bag looks good too me .. I'd take it out and use it
Looks like it has some old stains and patina ... its a cool relaxed and distressed look... I like it, does it work for your casual days? If so enjoy it .
All the best,doc

You are the best! Thanks much for the advice. I own the bag and will do as you suggested and just enjoy it rather than try to correct what appears to be simply characteristic of the leather.

Doc,

Thank you so much for your advice. I haven’t brought out any cleaners or conditioners until I decided if I wanted to keep it. I just went over the bag with a soft cloth to see if things would blend a bit and if the surprise blue paint would flake off. Luckily, I got most of the blue paint off without issue and the undisclosed pen mark doesn’t bother me too much.

My concern is mostly for the dryness and dirt. I’ve decided to keep the bag. It’s a great casual bag and I love my other Barenia bags. I will look to your reference section and order appropriate supplies that I might be missing.

Thank you again!
