Doc - the bag arrived today and I have to say I’m stunned at how good it looks!! I really cannot tell that it’s been polished *except* for a few places where the polish has been worked over the stitching and one small scratch on the front- and overall it’s not very obvious. Is there ANY way of cleaning the stitching? Otherwise, it looks MUCH better than the photos and feels divine. One of my employees thought it was new.

How can I tell if chamomix or box? It looks more rouge than brique compared to online Hermes color charts - but I’m still learning, so not sure. Thanks for reading!

I’m trying to learn as much as I can about my recently acquired bag.

I was told that it’s Natural Box Calf, assuming the colour is Natural? And type of leather is Box? However after reading through a few threads, I’ve noticed that Box Calf usually has either the gold or silver stamping at the front but the Chamonix or Vache Natural has the blind stamping which mine has.

Docride are you able to confirm the type of leather and colour?

Also I’m worried about the cracking shown in photos. I’m not too fussed about the scratches at all. In fact I kinda love them.

I’ve also tried to find on the forum what type of conditioner and waterproofer I can use. I’ve found someone mention Saphir, but which Saphir product specifically?

Any help would be great. Thank you in advance.

Thank you Doc. Unfortunately the seller will not cancel the transaction and has been very clear about that. Do you think I have any recourse? I’m not an expert but it looks authentic. I also got a shipping notice this morning. I fear I may be stuck with this .... [emoji20]

It does not mater if the seller won’t cancel a transaction you ask eBay to step in
She did not disclose the bag was altered in the listing and then you found out afterward in the messages
eBay will stand by you .
All the best doc

The leather looks different in the photos if it looks more red than orange it’s rouge H Charmonix
If it looks more orange than it’s brique box calf

Getting red polish off white stitches ? I’d say forget it... those stitches are most likely permanently stained now.

So do you love the bag otherwise? If so keep it
If not get eBay to help you and send it back:)

Hi there what a cool vintage Birkin
I believe it’s Vache Natural leather
It’s like a natural cowhide with some semifinish on top. This leather gets water stains and should be well conditioned to help prevent water stains. You have very dry leather which is cracking conditioner might help but won’t fix those tears and cracks. Your bag has lots of personality and a wonderful patina. If you check my thread on recommended care products fir Hermes leathers your can learn more about caring for your bag :)

Thank you so much for the confirmation Doc!
I was hoping to prevent more of the cracking , I realise they won’t ever get fixed.

I’ll go search and hope to learn more about protecting her. She’s my first ever H bag and probably the only one and I absolutely love her character.

Hello
News paper treatment ? I have no idea what that means ...
I can say that putting newspaper inside a bag which has perfume in the leather is not going to remove the perfume .
Why not use alcohol to clear the perfume scent ? Or any of the other proven products for this problem ?
Good luck doc
The saga continues... After charcoal did not work I put some "washing soda" in a sock which I placed in the bag and zipped it shut. Then put the bag in a big plastic bag. After 48 hours I found the smell less strong. I shall wait another day or so.

Hi Docride! How are you doing? I'm interested in this vintage beige kelly 28('85 o O) and wanted your expertise on its condition. What do you think? Is it too dry? I see the handle base is a little torn, is that ok or will it fall apart soon? Attached are the pictures the seller sent. Tia!

The saga ? Oh dear...
why not Skip the plastic bag let the air flow ?
Why not use an actual smell rid product ? And if mildew scent get a product for killing that?
If it’s perfume you’ll need alcohol to neutralize the scent ... I mentioned this before right?
Are you keen on experimenting just to see what kind of works ? If so of course that’s fine :)
Good luck doc
Ps no offense intended. Truthfully.

Well this is a very pretty vintage Kelly! What nice find. It really looks pretty good to me. Yes you have small tears on the handle bases they don’t look extremely worrisome but you’ll see better when you have the bag in hand . Some TLC including conditioning will be in order as recommended for all vintage bags with unknown upkeep history.
If the price is right I say go for this lovely Kelly.

That's ok. I am hesitant about alcohol because I do not have a clue what kind of alcohol.
