Hello,
Those scratches and marks are not going to be much improved by applying a conditioner . You leather is a semi finished leather almost like an unfinished one . Unlike a finished leather where Light Surface scratches are often confined to the finish and not actually into the leather that’s when buffing and conditioner can help blend scratches best. An unfinished leather however, when scratched the scratches are on the leathers surface and are allowed to remain and become part of the leathers patina .
Your leather is an already rich buttery higher oil content with a semi finish I would treat this as I would swift or gulliver . I would not use a heavy greasy type conditioner nor a waxy one. I would use only a light lotion type conditioner you would not want to get this leather over conditioned or it could conceivably stretch and loose it’s shape.
I hope this was helpful?
Doc
Thanks doc. I have a Cadillac light lotion conditioner i would use on swift 1-2 times a year so ill opt with that then . Was thinking i could spa it like boxcalf but seems i was very wrong. Thankyou!

Hi Doc,
There are some visible handprints on black color swift leather. We tried rubbing the prints gently but thry didn't come off. We are thinking it might be either a hand with sunscreen or excessive hand lotion touched the bag and hence left such stubborn mark. :(
May I have your expert opinion on how to remove such stain, please?
TIA!

Xxoo,

Thanks for lighting speed reply. Unfortunately, I do not have the bag with me now and I also do not have a photo of it as SA kept it and will probably take a few days to get back to me on if they can clean it.

I came home and browsed for hours on ur threads and couldn't see anything on this issue... I was thinking if I should have tried leather sofa wipes on the bag... it's a brand new bag but it's dirtied. How unfortunate. :(

Hi again,
I cant comment because I really dont know what the problem is...from your description alone its kind of vague. Are the figer prints lghter than the leather like color loss? Or pigmented ? I wonder if the leather its self has been damaged or discolored or something is sitting on top of the leather..... I'll look t your next posts good luck

I understand. From some angles, the prints are very visible, but from some other angles the prints aren't really there. There's definitely no color loss or damage.

Hi @docride !!

I have a quick question - would one be able to replace the edge paint on a finished H Kelly? I recently received my SO Kelly and to my surprised they have used a color that I'm not liking, and would like to have it changed. Does one need to remove the existing edge paint or can a new layer be coated on top?

H is not willing to re-do the edge paint so I am currently researching options...

thank you!

Hey there ,
That’s an Interesting question I would say it depends on the color to some degree you would find it’s difficult to to the edges of the straps perfectly when it’s already assembled and attached to the bag, when you alter the bag Hermes probably won’t service it.
Probably you would need to take off part or all of the edging so a new edging cost would adhere.
Have I answered your questions?

Thank you for the fast reply!

My Kelly SO has a Gris Mouette exterior which to my understanding the edge color would be black, as per the Constance I currently own in the same color. The SO I recently picked up turned out to have a reddish brown edge paint which I don’t love...

Upon seeing the bag in the store my SA was a little confused too and took it to the on site craftsman to inquire, and was told that whoever made the bag had the final say in terms of edge paint, since this was not an option to choose for the client. With that said the craftsman in my H store did not want to alter it.

I am currently researching on options and potential to replace the edge paint with black... would one need to somehow sand it down or would painting over it is ok... hoping to source high quality paint from Stahl, etc etc..

I hope you dont mind me commenting..I watch this thread of docrides to see her amazing knowledge on hermes care and refurbishment...I dont own any birkins or kellys nor am I likely to...so I hope you dont mind me saying that I think the reddish brown edge warms up the kelly......would painting the edge alter the value of the bag?...
Please excuse me if Im giving an opinion where its not wanted...I do not want to offend as I know you have stated you do not like the colour.
I hope docride can give you the advice you need to make a decision that you are happy with.

Whoa, hang on there ....I would recommend letting a professional do it for you , I don’t think this is a simple do it yourself project. Even if I tell you want to do and what to use it’s not the same as having experience.
