Hi docride!

I was so excited to find this thread. I love vintage bags and am so glad someone else has a passion for fixing them. I noticed today when I was carrying my Kelly sellier 35 in Veau grains couchevel that there is a slight crack on the side. I am not sure when it happened or how but I was wondering do I leave it be? Do I do something to it? It’s not very deep but I don’t want it to continue to spread.

Also on that note I don’t really condition this type of leather- should I?

Thank you!

Hi there,
You should absolutely condition this bag pronto. I’d recommend conditioning inside and out . I have a thread which has lists of tried and true care products for Hermes leathers and exotic skins . Check the Hermès reference section . Thank you for posting and good luck [emoji256] doc

I just checked that out and just ordered the products. Would you just leave the crack alone besides conditioning it?

Dear Docride, I am considering buying a vintage bolide. It is in desperate need of some TLC. I would so much appreciate your valuable opinion on whether a Hermès spa treatment would transform this bag to its true vintage glory. Many thanks in advance!s-l500.jpg s-l1600.jpg s-l1700 (1).jpg s-l1800 (1).jpg s-l1900 (1).jpg s-l1610 (1).jpg s-l1620 (1).jpg

Hi there,
What a nice vintage Boldie you have found. A good spa would make it look much nicer yes, although it wont look new of course. I say if the price is right and you love the color go for it!
All the best,doc

Hi doc! I'm looking to buy a vintage barenia evelyne but I have a few questions scratches. I've read about being able to rub off lighter scratches with your finger but these scratches look deeper so I'm a bit concerned. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks! 20180909_091018.jpg

Hi there,
This doesn’t look like barenia from the photos. Have you got more photos? Looks like cat scratches which have depth to them and are more like deep cuts which isn’t the same as light surface scratches

Thanks for replying, doc! I've asked the seller for more pictures and I'll post them when she replies. There's the link if that helps because she only posted one picture of the scratches, https://m.ebay.com/itm/HERMES-Evely...456026?hash=item285fc5469a:g:sW4AAOSwiu5bRc-4

Thanks so much again, doc!

To my eyes this is not
barenia did you want barenia ?
Those scratches are gouges from what u see in the photos , they aren’t going to go away with simple rubbing or polishing maybe a pro can fix it to look better though
All the best doc

Yes I wanted barenia but I'll look elsewhere since this isn't. Thanks so much for your help, doc!

Dear docride,
Would you give me your opinion on what this is, and if it's treatable? I'm considering this vintage toile and I believe barenia Vespa, but the bottom panel has these spots/splotches. Does this look like usual patina to you? Water stains? Mold?
I appreciate your help and expertise! Screenshot_20180909-135602.png Screenshot_20180909-135838.png Screenshot_20180909-135639.png Screenshot_20180909-135631.png

Hi
I can’t tell what made the spots from the photo
But we can rule out water spots
Assume the spots are permanent
I hope this helped ?
Thank you very much, docride!!
I guess I was hoping the spots might be improved with leather conditioning. Biggest worry was if it's a mold of some kind. I think if you think the spots are likely permanent, I'll possibly pass on this particular purse and keep looking!
Thanks again!!
