Thanks a lot doc! Attached are pictures of the rest of the bag. I’m thinking putting heavy conditioning to the bag may help revitalize it’s appearance. I’m also inspired by your tricks, very artistic and interesting maneuver of the leather’s characteristics.
Hey there again,
Looks like a great bag! Do take care to not over condition in a foul swoop ...it is far better to use less conditioner and let the bag rest in between. Multiple thinner conditioning applications give nicest results
Good luck !
Doc

Hi Doc, I recently sent this bad into H spa for peeling resin on the handle. I have only used the bag a few times since it’s return and the resin is beginning to peel again Also, the resin on the interior of the bag is cracking/splitting. It’s my understanding that H does not “spa” the interior of the bag. Will this issue of peeling/splitting/cracking resin be harmful if I leave it as is? What cause this too happen? I have multiple bags and I rotate to a different bag once a week so use is minimal throughout a year (I’d say 4-5weeks per year). I don’t get all worried about “signs of use” however I take care of my stuff and try to avoid common sense handbag dangers ;). Thanks for your thoughts!

Hello,
The edging can be made of different material sometimes it is a leather paint or dye with a clear wax on top which is hand rubbed and burnished. Sometimes it’s a thicker acrylic type of material like as is seen on white bags edges. Sometimes is a clear or colored sealing edging material which a sort of resin.
So many options and all can be seen on Hermes bags of different leathers and periods of production.
The chipping or peeling should not cause any functional issues per say, edging is a finishing touch for the most part .
As leather expands and contracts with temperature changes the finish and or the edging material can open, close or lift away from the edge ( those results depending upon the edging material type of course).
So it’s rather unavoidable with normal use.
This is not your fault.

Have I answered your questions?
All the best doc

Thanks for your response Doc! You were very through in your response. I live in northern USA so we definitely have drastic temperature swings!

Hello @docride! I just got a vintage lizard faco clutch, the condition is very good, yet I still like to know a bit more about how to care for this leather. I found from your already closed thread that luxury again cleaner is recommended for lizard skin. However, I couldnt find that in my area, but I do have Lexol cleaner wipe and your Barenia care kit. May i ask if they are ok to use on lizard leather? Many thanks in advance!!

Hello there
I have a thread which has lists of care products which are recommended for leathers and exotic skins in the Hermes reference section. I recommend using products specific to care for reptile skins on lizard and always test a small hidden area first when trying any product on your fine Hermes goods before proceeding to any large visible areas.
I would not just blindly use a cleanser on lizard Hermes lizard skin is beautiful no doubt
I would say I prefer creamy lotion type cleanser/ conditioner combination products On vintage lizard as vintage lizard is prone to being dried out and possibly cracking even though it might look great and shiny.
This particular thread is specifically for asking about. Whether or not a bag can be saved :)
Thank you
Doc

Oooops sorry, will check out the reference section, thank you so much docride!!!

Dear docride, can this bag be saved?20170714_174041.jpg 20170714_173801.jpg 20170714_173857.jpg
I have no idea what that white gunk is! The bag has been kept in the dustbag, stuffed, in a house with air conditioning. My only suspect for the damage is a mouse infestation we had for a few months - DO mice eat box leather? I can post a few more pics if you need them.

Hi Doc!

First time posting here and would love your esteemed opinion as I consider whether to purchase a bag.
It's a BBB30 from 2004: https://en.brandoff-store.com/top/detail/asp/detail.asp?scode=2104101610248&from_item_list=1

There are white scuffs on the corners and some whitish smears. The hardware looks nearly pristine (to my relatively untrained eye). Are the scuffs and smears reparable? Is this a DYI job or a Spa visit?

Thanks so much!

Dear Docride,

Thank you for your contribution to this thread.

Can I bother you with one thing? What is your opinion on Epsom leather? I recently got a kelly in Epsom from hermes store, and saw many people talking about the corner wears, and I am not so sure I still like my bag.

Thanks in advance.

Best
Mi

Hi Doc, got a question for my chamonix dalvy in rough H. I hope you can see the slightly wavy / pebbled lines on the leather, as well as a few incidental scratches. This is preloved when I had it. Not sure if these slightly wavy / pebbled lines, which are not smooth to the touch, can be saved? Thank you!38512023_1071625819657240_40887126585245696_n.jpg 38822025_1819957538089316_3848609469688709120_n.jpg

Hi docride! Thank you for everything you do here!

I’ve searched extensively and not found an answer so am posting here. I have a small scuff on the corner of my Epsom C24. Can I try to condition and buff it or only leave it to H? I was at FSH but didn’t have enough days in EU to leave it for treatment. They wanted me to give them a month, just in case.

I’ve noticed people around the forum suggesting Meltonian and blackrock but I’ve seen your old posts advising against these for Epsom.

Looking forward to hearing from you and thank you! [emoji813]️

Dear Docride,
I am looking into purchasing a preowned evelyne but it has ink stains inside.
Is there any way they can be removed?
I would really appreciate your opinion.
Thank you in advance
