Hello doc
I just would like to know your thoughts about a bag that is listing on
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Auth-HERMES-Bolide-47-Gold-Veau-Graine-Couchevel-Circle-Y-Handbag/323234863068?hash=item4b424c97dc:g: ploAAOSwzINa6GV9
There is a big scar in the exterior of the bag.
Do you think this bag can be saved if I bring this to a restore shop?
I want to buy this bag and have it re dye THE EXTERIOR in navy blue by a restore shop and leave the interior in gold color.
Do you think it would worth ?
Thank you in advance for your advices doc.

Hello,
I think the quality of the work and the products used can make a huge difference from restoration shop to restoration shop. I dont know how much they charge were you are for such services. The bag is a good price I feel.
Most restoration shops should be able to do some color touch up to fix the corners and handles... however once you start doing color correction on a panel most of the time the shop will be coloring the whole bag so it will look uniform. Once a restoration shop has basically painted the whole bag its going to have an altered hand feel perhaps a bit plastic feeling? Most shops can do this service for you I would however advise to see some of their work before handing your Hermes bag over. In my opinion you would be best off to keep the bag original color and restore it conservatively to maintain the bags value.
All the best,doc

Hi doc!!

I had a faint ballpoint pen mark on my tadelakt mini Bearn and as per google advice I used a small amount of hairspray with a q tip and while the pen mark came off, it seems like the glaze immediately rubbed off and now there is a dark “rub” mark with a matte texture...

Would this call for H spa, is there and at home remedy, or am I stuck with it as is?

Thank you in advance!

Hello there
It looks like you have lost the leathers finish and have some color-loss on that area now
That’s going to need some color correction
Spot color correction in the middle of a field or panel seldom looks perfect even when done by a pro. I would leave this to a trusted professional and not attempt to fix it on your own . Good luck
Doc

Hi Docride, I bought a year 1945 K32 from an auction last year. There is tear on both sides of the bag as you can see from the pictures below. Please could you give me some advice how to fix the tear? Thank you and appreciated

Hello there,
Well you have a very cool grande dame there and she’s been allowed to dry out to the extreme. When leather gets to this point it’s called Dry-rot, this means the leather has the become so dry and inflexible and brittle that it tears like cardboard. It appears to be what’s happened in this case. It looks like you the leather has torn away from the stitches and part of the leather is still attached to the stitches correct? Normally a repair would require restricting though the original needle holes but in this case the holes are ripped through. The problem here is that when the leather has gotten to this stage it doesn’t usually hold repair stitches either . Think about sewing cardboard ... the thread cuts through the cardboard (when you pull them tight ).
Sorry to say but I don’t have transformative restoration advice for this bag.its not a matter of just conditioning and having the leather come back to supple and healthy condition although you can try.
1) you can try a sub patching system from the interior which won’t be neat looking and probably won’t be all that strong either.
2) Don’t muck with it and sell the bag as is as an antique recoup some of your loss and invest in a bag which can be used .
3) condition it as much as possible and then don’t over load ( lip stick keys and a mini wallet) and carry it as a chic beater Kelly like the olsen twins do until it falls apart ?
4) sell it to an interior designer or a window dysplay company or photography studio as a prop?
5) make it in to a planter ?
Good luck sincerely, doc

Thanks Doc for the advise! You are right that the leather has torn away from the stitches and part of the leather is still attached to the stitches. The bag is anyway over 70 years old. I can appreciate how much it’s been through yet still being graceful. I think I will carry it till it falls apart; hope not so soon. : )

If that’s the case maybe put in a purse insert to help it out a bit and don’t carry it open with the flap unfastened that will help keep it less stressed
Good luck [emoji256]

Would you kindly give an opinion on the condition of the leather of this GM Evelyne
Although it is described as Fauve Tadelakt, I think it might be barenia.
It is Fsquare 2002 and looks rather dry and in need of tlc.

Thank you

Thanks for your swift response and being positive.
These are the other photos available.
I would really like your thoughts on the condition.View attachment 4068170View attachment 4068171View attachment 4068172View attachment 4068173View attachment 4068174

Hi there,
Condition ? Hmm it looks like if you want a bag that looks non distressed with some TLC then look elsewhere. If you want a bag which will look distressed and shabby chic proceed. Functionally it looks ok. Be aware that those old style Evelyne straps snaps tended to lose their spring action so always check those t be in good working order.
Although it, is possible it was barenia but someone painted or coated it with something I'm still leaning toward it being noisette box calf.
