Hi all! Just wondering what/if you use to keep your bags safe while traveling? My birkins never fit into the room safe and I always just try to tuck them away or hide them somewhere if I leave the hotel room without them. Would like a better option and wondering what you all do.
Hi, it is always nerve-wracking to leave an expensive item unattended in a room or home! It is one of the reasons why I stopped bringing those expensive bags to trips. In recent years I started buying more contemporary designer bags, and use them more than my premier designers and take them on trips with me. TBH, it is still stressful to leave any cute bag unattended in a room!

When I feel extra insecure, I usually lock it/them inside my (unpacked) luggage! Or inside my carryon. I use a lock and place the luggage on that "rack" for luggage. If I use my carryon for this, I lock it and place it in a hidden corner in my room. Also, yes, we panic leaving a birkin unattended. But in the end, they might not know about those bags, and most of them might not find it worth it to steal our stuff. HTH

Agree. My opinion is that it is "safer" to use pricey items/make sure it is on your person than leaving it in a hotel room unattended (even when locked in a luggage or safe). I am sure you have heard stories of items missing in a hotel room/safe too.
While I still lock my Birkin in my suitcase when not using it when I travel with it, I can say from personal experience that this won’t stop anyone! The night before we departed Las Vegas on a trip there in 2018, our room was broken into; clearly an inside job since we routinely check the door to ensure it’s locked and there was no sign of forced entry. Since we had an early flight, I was already packed, which included locking my jewelry and purchases in my carryon bag. I had even asked DH if he thought that would be safe and, since our room had already been cleaned, we figured no one would have reason to enter. I knew something was off when we returned to the room later that night and discovered that my bag had been broken into by pulling the teeth of the zipper apart!? They managed to zip it back up pretty well so it wasn’t immediately noticeable, although they did not put the lock back the way I always leave it, which was an immediate tip-off for me. The only thing stolen from our room was a cookie, despite the fact that everything had been thoroughly searched (the contents of our bags were a mess) and there were any number of fine jewelry, electronics and other luxury items that could have easily been taken. No idea what the thief was after, but hotel security basically brushed it off. I have since been advised that, should something like this happen again, I should deal with the police, as then the hotel will take it more seriously. And hotel safes? They’re notoriously awful. Asking the front desk to lock any valuables in their safe if the best way to protect anything you are truly concerned about. Not that I’ve ever done this (we have good insurance and I’m inherently lazy), but…

what a violation. I am so sorry that happened to you.
I am so glad you and your DH and your belongings are safe.

I don't like going to a police station or a morgue to be part of my trip. Therefore, I like to leave my prized possessions at home so as to avoid endangering my life (thru robbery..and yes, some people will shoot/stab you in the chest if you refuse to give up your diamond ring or fight back) and unnecessarily being in a bad situation in an unfamiliar place or territory. So yeah, I avoid travelling with my H bags & prized possessions.

My two cents is this: whether you travel or not thieves are everywhere. Just prior to Covid there was a "pandemic" of thieves in my neighbourhood breaking into homes and going after designer handbags and jewelery. A very scary time indeed. The only good thing that came from Covid is that the robberies stopped.
To stay on topic yes I have travelled with my Evelyne tpm. And I wear all my jewelery that I wear at home.
Would I personally ever travel with my Birkin? never. I don't even wear it enough at home:lol:
@DME I am so sorry to hear this happened to you  but I admire you for travelling with your Birkin:smile:. These bags are too expensive no t to wear at all. I never understood why people bought jewelery and kept in a safe at the bank:confused1:.

We cruise a lot and, apparently, wealthy ladies who cruise often do so with imitation jewelry. However, I’m with you! If I own it, I’m going to enjoy it and wear it. I’ll be mindful of my surroundings, sure, but I’m not going to invest in high-quality, fake jewelry on the off chance I’m robbed, or simply leave the good stuff at home. Why bother if I don’t actually use it?

Life is short and if I 'save' everything for a special occasion, however I might define it, I might never wear it. So, I brought two Bs with me and much of my fave jewelry because I like to carry/wear them. I should add that we are staying in an apartment (with some serious locks on the door!) and I might feel differently if we were staying at a hotel...in which case we'd probably be staying for less time and I'd need less.
I'm in favor of carrying/enjoying my bags (wherever I may be) not admiring them in my closet

This is not related to Hermes but as a (now)funny story, my partner and I once went on a road trip to a couple of weddings. Our car got broken into in a garage and the thieves stole our laptop bags. They left my Chanel classic flap. It gives my partner great pleasure that they left the one thing that would have made them good money since our laptops were both at most 600€ to sell in their condition.

As for Hermes, I wouldn’t travel with my Birkin nowadays… unless it was to Japan, Korea, Scandinavia or countries where I felt like I didn’t need to worry about carrying a Birkin… I want to enjoy my holiday.

Yes, I do travel with my H bags. To be honest, I feel like other designers are waayy more recognized! So, I don't travel with any LV, or CF Chanels with the CC logo. Usually, no one takes a second look at whatever bag I'm carrying. I usually do bring the 'under the radar' ones though depending on where we are going - and the Weather!! So it's either a Jypsiere, Evelyne, Bolide or Garden Party, and then a Faco 2 for evenings.

Thought I had posted this pic of a sac a depeches 21 which no one recognizes.
Dior black dress that is pre wrinkled and can be rolled up in a packing cube.
Also my tpm with airplane outfit (dior t shirt; athleta cargo pants;
Turnbull cashmere hoodie (and Birkenstock slip on or MtM hiro yanagimachi sneakers)

While it's not surprising, I'm really sad about the security/theft issues raised here. My home lifestyle is so boring so I look forward to saving "special" things for vacation.

However I've yet to travel with my B30 - not primarily because of security issues at my destination, but because I don't want to damage it during transit. I am notorious for rubbing/scuffing handbag handles on my carryon suitcase's vertical bars/handle when I put it on top of the suitcase, and Birkin handles are too expensive to replace

I've travelled a bit recently with my Della Cavalleria as it's smaller/easier to carry and store away. However, even with the best precautions, fluke events just happen; I was recently on the Paris metro and as the doors were about to close a teenage boy literally divebombed into the carriage, ricocheting everyone sideways, including someone's heavy rucksack straight into my DC hardware... when does that happen?! Unfortunately DC's new deep scratches will always be a memory of that trip!
