My bags are to be worn, I just take good care of them.
I have done endless travels with my Kelly 35 Togo and love it.
I’ve also traveled many places with my white Birkin 35 in clémence and my Birkin 35 étoupe.
My So Black 35 Birkin also made a few trips but must admit it’s very delicate.
Other than that any retourné bag is made for casual journeys and I sure use them that way
My sellier kellys might make it next time
Btw, I mean I actually use the above as travel bags.
I feel the same way. I love my bags and therefore use them with great pleasure. In particular, my B35 and the K35, sometimes the Bolides 35 - all made of Ardennes leather - have proven to be superbly durable companions on numerous flights and train journeys and in every wind and weather conditions. I also use Ks 32 Retourné sometimes, but only when I can't take enough other bags with me, because I like to use every space to pack my "travel bags" quite to capacity.
I found my people! Yes me too. That’s what bags are for after all. Pre pandemic- I regularly used a large plume as a travel bag and also Kelly 25, 28 and 32. ( not at the same time )For Kelly’s I use the strap crossbody- which makes it super practical. During security checks you get a tray anyway and the bag fits in that with a coat or a shawl.
Birkin of course was meant to be a travel bag-I m sure everyone here probably knows the story…

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would share my recent experience.

I was able to fit two B30's in my carry-on roller bag which I carried onto an airplane. I put some light blankets on the bottom of my luggage so the handbags would have a padded surface to rest on, and then I stacked my two Birkins in their dustbags into the suitcase. I used some bubble wrap to separate the handbags, as I did not want the touret to press into the leather of the other handbag and leave a dent.

After an eight hour travel day, we all arrived safe and sound!

Would you mind telling me what carryon this is? Thanks so much!

Rereading this thread mid-flight. B25 currently resting on its back up in the overhead bin, inside my old stretchy backpack which is further inside another, more sturdy backpack which I borrowed from one of my teens. It’s got two deep compartments (a wide one and a narrower one for laptop/tablet) and several external zippers. Will check the brand when I get home, it’s perfect for understated and protective transport!

When I got my first birkin in orange about four years ago, I honestly thought these were hardy travel bags. I remember putting it in the airport X-ray machine without a bin. I guess back then, the only thing I knew about them was the Jane Birkin story about she stomps on them and carries them in the rain. Luckily, that was a bag that I got offered as a walk in at FSH so I had no idea how valuable it was. Nowadays, I have learned to baby my bags much more. But I still travel with them! I just protect them inside a dior book tote now.

I envy those people that I see trekking around the airport or a resort with their Birkins. I’m not a weakling, and I do work out, but DH and I prefer to travel lightly and use carry ons bc we have not had the best luck checking in (So, a rimowa roller and stacked bag is the maximum no matter the length of the trip — in our case anywhere from four days -three weeks). So I don’t have the inclination to carry a fully loaded Birkin or the space to pack one (even if it nestles other items). I’m on a trip right now, part in laws, part friends, part vacation, and Im carrying my usual light weight bags, like an H TPM and a goyard St. Louis. I did bring a long a dior men’s saddle bag for fun. When I was younger and traveling on business, I would sometimes bring a jige and a double sens Bc both are flat and packable. Sometimes a Victoria. But the H bags are heavy and bulky so I’m no longer willing to make the trade off. Based on the comments above, and the ones I’ve seen in action IRL, I’m thinking about the lindy though. . .

OMG - I really really do admire you.
I will not read your post to my DH. Because I had quickly given up on those attempts. To the chagrin of my DH, I am just the opposite. Even if I only travel for a weekend, it looks like I want to move into the hotel / place of destination.

Thank you! I admire you! You’re one of the people who is always put together with a bag for every outfit :D

Know the feeling! I basically travel the same. Rimowa with a stacked bag. I will bring however both a tpm and a Kelly 25 inside a larger tote. I can’t imagine hauling ar a birkin even if empty. Funny story. I ran into a gf once at an airport on the way to Paris. She opened her carry-on to stuff some magazines she purchased and there was literally nothing in there besides a giant empty birkin 40 to hold 3 magazines :0).

I’m a lindy enabler, I promote it to everyone I can and I say go for it! I promise you won’t regret it! I think I love enabling people for the lindy because it wasn’t love at first sight for me, however, the moment I carried it I honestly thought it was one of the greatest hermes inventions ever!

Yes, I usually have a carry-on with a couple of bags and maybe one in its dustbag in my Goyard St. Louis that I carry on as well. Our most recent trip though was at a remote location in the Caribbean and involved a lot of outdoor activities so I just carried my mini Evie. DH was shocked.

My travel bags are my HAC 32s; they fit everything and I don't need to baby them. But I do carry a foldable bag that was made for birkins - for when I need to set them down on a really sketchy surface or to shelter my barenia from bad weather!
