I agree that it's not particularly tense in a sense that would cause, say, a backlash against a high-end bag. I like a Kelly or Evelyne for running around European cities - prefer the K as it's less casual so you can carry to a nice dinner. If you close the Evie top strap and put a scarf on top it helps against accessibility.Hi fellow expert, just want to get everyone's take on whether to bring my Birkin while traveling through Europe. I know the climate in Europe is very tense and I am not sure if I really want to draw attention to myself. I am leaning towards Jypsiere since I can be hands free and perhaps easier. Evelyn is awesome but the open top certainly worries me. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance!!
LOl!! "carry all of your new purchases!!" - for sure, right? Thanks so much for your input!!Hi! Sounds like a fabulous trip!! I would advise against the evelyne as the open top makes it a easy target. The birkin in a larger size is nice for carrying a lot and you can lock it ..but walking around all day it can get very heavy. The jypsiere is very good for travelling you can secure the buckle and cross body for you to free up your hands!!...to carry all of your new purchases!
Have a great time!!

Thank you for your input and I can't wait to be there and take everything in....that's why I think Jypsiere may be easier.I would vote for the Jypsiere. You can strap it securely closed, wear it on your shoulder, and it is less recognizable than the Birkin--all positives for international travel. Pickpockets are a real danger in Paris and other capitals, and hands-free is just more comfortable for sightseeing, I feel. Those are three of my favorite cities--have a WONDERFUL time!
That's a really cool idea - LV pochette clip to the loop of Evelyn. Jypsiere is certainly gore and safe but yes, I cannot stand the closure either. Thanks for your input!!I've been to Europe a few times and didn't even bring my Kelly with shoulder strap. I can't imagine lugging a Birkin around if it's a sightseeing trip. Too bulky and heavy. I have an Evelyne and would bring it in a heart beat next time. Here's how I manage the open top issue: I have a LV pochette, which I clip to the Evelyne strap hardware loop to keep it secure and prevent it from falling out or being taken. Inside the pochette, I keep a small wallet, keys, and anything I don't want stolen. Then in the rest of the bag, I keep a makeup pouch with all other makeup and small accessories. Nothing small is sitting freely in the bag. I've done other travels with the Evelyne and have never had a problem. It's lightweight, holds a small umbrella and water, and still looks chic when you're out shopping.
The Jypsiere is gorgeous but I think it's still too heavy and the closure can be a pain. When you're traveling, you want to be in and out of your bag quickly and easily. You could then bring another smaller H bag to bring out at night.
Media has gotten me so crazy worry and doesn't help when my mom texts me constantly of various news on the danger of going to Paris. It's good to know that we are not heading into a war zone as media has been portraying. lol!! Oh lord....decision, decision, decision. Thank you for your input.I think it depends on how you behave, what areas you intend to visit, and how vigilent you intend to be. Just to counter your first remark, the 'climate' being tense in Europe, even though that's what the media may be broadcasting, isn't really a phenomenon noticeable in everyday life. If anything, you might see an increased law enforcement presence. But you are not travelling to a warzone, keep that in mind.Infact, I personally would feel more unsafe in the major Californian cities, than the ones you are visiting in Europe.
I personally would have no issue bringing a Birkin in terms of safety. I do my research on where to visit or not, know where I'm going and don't look touristy (e.g. looking around aimlessly, reading maps, appearing lost etc)
No matter where I am, I may be a bit paranoid about my possessions. Regardless of if it is Hermès or something cheap. It's a principle thing. I know there are thieves literally everywhere, so I am vigilant always.
Of course if you want a more carefree experience, you could bring a more under the radar bag, to minimise risk etc. Definitely also take into consideration the practical side of things. I would certainly not bring more than one Hermes bag though, as leaving one in the hotel room is always a bad idea.
Thank you for your input. I agree that Jypsiere is def more under the radar and I really haven't been using mine as much anyway. Mine is certainly a bit beat up since it is my first Hermes purchase years ago and preloved as well....so I don't really have to baby it, even though I tend not to baby my bags to begin with anyway. Have a fab day!!I have taken several trips with my J28's and the J is my go-to bag for travel. Cross-body for hands-free convenience, secure as it gets with even just one of the straps in place, and can be "dressed up" with a shorter shoulder strap or scarf. Plus it's much more under-the-radar and much less ubiquitous than the B or E. (And I find it a good balance of easy for me to get into and hard for thieves to get into.). Plus it's lightweight and holds a good amount of stuff.
