Do you travel with your H bag?

For those of you who put their b or k in a larger, soft bag, e.g. Longchamp on the plane, do you have any tips for making sure they don't get squished? Do you put the bag in the overhead bin or under the seat?

Of course! I don't see the point of having a bag if it won't be used with love. I carry my H everywhere and my lifestyle includes way too much travel so it would be a waste for them to sit on the shelf :)

I put it under the seat in front of me. In the overhead others may rearrange things so it might end up under a suitcase!

Giuliana, I definitely put my LC bag with my B/K under the seat in front of me. Just once, I put it in the overhead bin and other passengers literally were trying to stuff their luggage on top of my LC. Of course, I quickly got up and removed my LC and B/K from the overhead bin but I learned my lesson the hard way. My H bag was still in perfect condition but my heart did stop for a brief second during this episode.

BA have recently changed the configuration of their 1st & business class seats/cubbies. The flight attendant try to take your bag so I always get busy with my stuff and try to wait until just before the flight leaves the gate to put my purse up if I have to, then get up as soon as the seatbelt sign gies off. On the descent the flight attendants are usually more casual about the regulations.

I had this same issue with United international first. But the seat setup had a little cabinet that I snuck my bags into ;-)

Definitely under the seat for me... I am too afraid it would get squished in the overhead bin.

Another +1. You never know what other people have in their carryon luggage and how secure their liquids.

My bag is always inside a waterproof bag and within sight during a flight. Overhead lockers can turn into big black holes and everyone wants their bags to be on top.

Thanks for all your replies and sharing your experiences!

Vigee, I'm sorry to hear about the incident with the overhead bin, but I'm glad that your bag was still in perfect condition!

I know it's been discussed over and over again throughout the years whether it's "safe" to travel with your Hermes babies and how to protect them at the airport, inflight, etc.

My question is about whether it's SAFE for me and my contents if and when I travel with my Birkin. This question is specifically for travel next week to Barcelona, Venice and Rome. I was so set on bringing my 30 B until friends started saying "leave your engagement ring and B at home!"

I don't really believe this is the way we must travel, especially to Europe, but I also don't want to be ignorant. I always carry my B with the flap closed so it'd be the same as bringing a tote with a zipper, but tell me ladies. Am I being naive?

Totally agree with you as I don't believe this is the way we must travel, but I just came back from Europe (incl. Barcelona) and I would strongly suggest leaving your engagement ring and premier handbags at home. I saw several tourists pick-pocketed and/or harassed and also have friends who had belongings stolen on the street while vacationing. Better to be safe than sorry, I think!

Venice was fine for me and my two B's. It depends where you go to Barcelona and Rome. For some places I bring a bag that is not super designer and leave my B or B's at the hotel, inside my luggage. You need to trust the hotel too. I like casual wear when in these cities and then bring some cute things when I go out to fancier places. I usually speak Ok italian so that helps a bit. That said I know how bad it is to have your wallet stolen, I had that happen to me when I was 13 on my way to buy a pair of sneakers I saved for months and months. Definitely agree on engagement rings. Leave big rings and engagement rings home. A silver CDC I think may come in handy for some close combat heheh [emoji14][emoji12]

Same here. I have my K32 inside a lonchamp pliage, which I put under the seat in front of me. It works and I've not had an issue. Depending on flight, you may need to pop it into an overhead and grab it back down as soon as the seat belt light is turned off, but if you put it up at the last moment and take it back down as soon as possible, you shouldn't have an issue.

In terms of international travel. It depends on where I am going and what I'm doing. In terms of safety, use your best judgement. Some places have more pick pockets than others and while keeping aware of your surroundings will help most of the time, some places just aren't worth bringing anything that will make you stand out from the crowd. I like to blend in when I travel.

Bottom line for me is that I find my bag not only beautiful but very easy to use, thus, wherever practical, I like to bring it with me. I also travel very light, so tend not to bring too many bags so want something that can suit multiple purposes.
