In September, DH and I are making our first trip to Europe. One week in Nice, then a week in Paris.

I have a brand new Evelyne that I am dying to take with me because it's so comfy to wear.

My fear is pick pockets and thieves. I plan to carry it close to my body, and keep the important stuff in a pochette (attached by a chain inside the Evie)

We'll be taking some trains and buses, and doing lots of walking.

Should I be concerned? Any thoughts and advice are appreciated!:smile1:
I went to Paris two years ago with my Picotin Lock. I pulled the strap tight, held it close to my body and wore it on my forearm instead of carrying it in my hand. I had no problems. My mom did comment that with the way I was carrying it, my muscles were flexed which came off as, " Try to steal from me and I will f#%^ing kill you." That wasn't my intent but if people thing I will hunt them down like a dog and beat the snot out of them, well I'll take it. In the end, I think your best defense is your attitude. Be aware of your surroundings and act like you are definitely not someone to mess with and you will be fine. Enjoy your trip!

Just to clarify, I do not own a Birkin. I'm all for wear - most of my H bags are vintage afterall but I do believe in saving the leather from the worst wear and tear during long haul travel. It's like driving, I'm careful but others may not be :D

Completely agree! And the Envirosax did save my Trim from a fellow airline passenger who dumped hot soup on the floor at the beginning of a flight.

Evelynes are perfect for travel especially in France. I'd still have a cover bag for going through security in case an officer takes your bag out of the tray & sends it through on the rollers, tuck the strap in. Got my Evelynes for travel, you get a low key profile with brand recognition & easy to carry crossbody for security.

You'll have a great time on Nice. It's some time since we have been there & looking forward to our next visit. In Nice in general be wary, it is & has for a very long time been a tourist destination. Last visit, now it was five years ago, we left the Negresco in the early evening & were followed by a very large well dressed man who attempted to pick my DH's wallet from his jacket on the Palais des Anglais. We were well dressed as usual leaving a top hotel after dinner going for a stroll. We haven't changed our dress or habits, but it was an awareness alert.

You'll have a fabulous time. Wish we were going too.

Lol I know I would if someone stole my bag.

We just got back from a trip to the south of France. Do get a GPS, it's so much easier to find places. Ask the rental person to switch to the language that you want and show you how to use it. They'll gladly show you. But don't ever leave anything in the vehicle. Our rear window got smashed into on a restaurants parking lot near Antibes. Thank goodness only our sandy beachwear was in the trunk. As for traveling I used a beach bag from O'Neils and put my bag inside there during traveling and on the plane.

The Garden Party is a good bag for travel. Birkin/Kelly would induce too much stress unless it's one of those che-che city trips where there's no risk of ruining them! (but even then, a raincoat will be necessary for protection against unexpected drizzle!)

My new favoirite travel companion is my ebene Kelly 32. It's been to Rome and Tokyo with me and I've only had her for 6 months. I used to travel with Evelyn but the open top is an issue for me.

Can someone post a link to which Envirosax bag fits the B35?? I ordered one from a previous link someone posted that is 19.5" wide & the B35 does not fit...

I ordered a black one from this site: www.raincollection.com

If I remember correctly it was only available in one size and it fits my B35 perfectly. I posted pics of my B35 in it - see post #489

I do have to work the base of the Birkin past the narrower opening of the envirosax by putting in one end and then the other, but once I get the base in, it really is a perfect fit.

Hope this helps!

I do not own any Hermes bags (yet ;)), but I do have this Longchamp Pliage with me when I travel. I use the short handle model that is made for traveling (size L I think). It is perfect to cover my classic flaps and it folds very small and you can put also more stuff there inside. Classy solution imo!

I travel in Europe with all my Hermes bags except the Picotin as I feel the open top is just too inviting. Designs which have come up tops include the Kelly with her strap, Lindy, Birkin 30 with Envirosax for iffy locations/ situations and the Evelyn. The Garden Party would be great too except mine are toile and I am still looking for a leather one.

This is a great thread. I have a new Victoria and want to travel with her in September. I like the longchamp pliage idea. I also have a baggallini expandable tote I've used on the beach for years - it zips and is waterproof. There is one on zappos right now that is huge, and appears it would fit a 35 birkin with perhaps some room to spare, and at $30 it is some nice protection on the cheap and on the qt - people wouldn't dream there is an Hermes inside. I'm thinking its going to fit my Victoria with some extra room. As others have mentioned, we were traveling once, and the person in front of us dropped an entire coke which exploded and drenched us, under our seats etc. thank goodness we had been to an island and I was carrying an inexpensive kiplinger tote that was zipped. Somehow nothing got ruined. The baggallini specs are below in case anyone is interested. They come in several colors

Love this! And its definitely waterproof? It doesn't say it is and nylon usually isn't; maybe just water-resistant?
