This is a very interesting topic! I love reading the comments here.
I found it easy to not buy much after I built up my collection of four because the price increases kept bulldozing us. I do have an additional two bags but they were bought remotely and I’m sadly saying goodbye. They never really worked with my wardrobe and that actually inspired me to stop my collection there. One caramel and one lavender bag that never quite looked like the swatch images really bummed me out and inspired me to explore what’s out there.
I have one Dior Montaigne bag that is a pretty caramel/brown bag that is more subdued and an easy everyday type style. I also have a Prada saffiano re edition which I avoided for a while but ended up falling in love with the ease of use. Saffiano galería was my work bag when I was still in an office so it was a material I trusted and enjoyed.
I see my Chanel bags (and my lady Dior) as beautiful art almost. Definitely reach for them during special occasions or weekends, but they’re hard to want to use for everyday. I am contemplating adding another one or two bags, perhaps Prada or Celine, which would be meant for everyday type use. I live in a big city and honestly I do feel a little weary having something so flashy, so because those artful bags feel like something I need to think about before using, it’s easy to think about other brands that are a bit more easygoing but just as beautiful or pleasing from a design perspective. I still think I would love a cool vintage Chanel Diana or single flap If I found the right one, but it’s not a need or an active search for me.
However, I still think Chanel is worthy of being a holy grail brand/aesthetic and I totally understand people who wouldn’t bother buying other brands once they’ve had a taste!
