Do you think it’s hard to go back to purchasing other brands after owning Chanel?

While I do not own a lot of Chanel (actually barely any), I can relate to that sentiment.

After I got my CF, I was stuck in a bit of a rut. I always kept on comparing bags to my CF.
I questioned the bags on my wishlist (or the next one that interested me), if they were "good enough"; if they were "as good as" or "better", than a CF. Was it "worth it" compared to my CF or getting another Chanel bag?
I was also a little tied down to a bag's resale value and, like most, am not happy when a bag depreciates quickly after purchase.
So it was hard for me to buy a bag after getting my CF.

But it was my husband who told me to stop limiting myself and just buy bags that make me happy (and he's a terrible enabler during shopping lol.) Tbh, he finds Chanel bag quite boring and old-fashioned, lol. :P He said, a bag is a bag at the end of the day. Enjoy when you have it; when you fall out of love with it, sell it, and move on to the next bag that you fall in love with.

I had a Gucci phase then I was a huge LV fan forever and never considered a Chanel til just recently. Once I got my hand on one, I couldn't look at my LVs anymore. Especially with the cracking and peeling of the canvas (yes I know it happened to Chanels too...). I got an leather LV and it's lovely but I really want a medium CF. I just can't justify $10k. I have purchased several wallets and SLGs new but have only purchase preloved handbags. That way I don't feel like I have to baby them too much. I love them so much and plan to sell most of my other handbags.

When I first started getting into Chanel, I found it hard to buy bags from other brands. All I wanted to do was build my Chanel collection. After getting my HG Chanel (So Black Reissue), the desire for a Chanel handbag wasn't as strong but I turned to buying Chanel accessories, shoes, etc. After a decade, I realized I have too many bags that I do not use or reach for and I've sold a few bags. I never thought I would sell any of them. Recently I have bought a few LV bags because they are just so carefree. So I would never say never.

I've bought only one bag from a higher-end brand (Bottega Veneta) after getting my first Chanel more than 10 years ago. I would admire bags from other brands but never felt enough interest to buy them. Agree with the sentiment though that most Chanel bags are not practical for daily wear and most designs are not low-key - I rarely travel with Chanel and don't even bring mine to work (gossipy colleagues LOL) although they are my go-to most weekends. Sometimes I think it's silly but I do love my Chanel collection and I know I worked hard to be able to afford them, and that's good enough for me :)

At first I thought I couldn't go back but the hype has died down for me and I'm once again looking at other brands. Chanel has a certain aesthetic, but it's not always the aesthetic I want. I also feel the CC is pretty loud, so I don't always want to wear it. My last bag was an LV, and now I'm kind of done with bags in general. Overall I think brands and bags are cyclic for me, so I'll come around to Chanel again probably in a year lol.

I bought my first chanel in 2012 and after that, all I bought was chanel. After 9ish years of only collecting chanel everything, I ventured out. I actually sought out to buy one classic from each brand (goyard, dior, ysl, gucci, LV, prada etc) to give my purse collection some variety. While I love chanel, it's nice having other brands to carry. I also started buying shoes, winter accessories, jewelry and wallets from each brand as well. I'm now interested in getting a loewe bag next. While I'm looking for variety, one purse from every brand is enough for me. I don't really care to build a collection of purses from each brand. I still find myself buying stuff from chanel like recently got a beanie, tennis shoes and the slingback.

Hermes oddly doesn't appeal to me. So I have no desire to buy hermes. But never say never ;).

I think I would've found it easier to stay in love with Chanel if it weren't for some of the brand's more recent behavior, particularly raising their prices astronomically while lowering the quality of the bags (I was shocked to hear every person I know who purchased the Chanel heart bag mention something on it breaking apart). Not to mention one or two run-ins with extremely rude SAs with superiority complexes. Maybe it's just me, but I started feeling like Chanel--being aware of how much brand loyalty it commands--has gotten greedy in its attempt to widen its profit margins and elevate itself to Hermes level status. No matter how much they raise their prices, even if their product quality goes downhill, people will still buy their bags, as an "investment" if nothing else.

I love my vintage bags from the late 90s, which continue to hold up amazingly. But personally I don't see myself getting anymore new Chanel in the future. It's hard for me to justify the price-to-value ratio, and it's hard to not feel like the brand is playing its customers for fools.
