Do you put your Coach on the floor....

I don't see why putting a bag on the floor or not would be controversial. Seems like a personal choice to me. :smile1: I put my Coach bags on the floor all the time. They're sturdy materials and super well made, so I've never had a problem with them. When I pick them up, I just brush any dust off and am on my way. Of course I'd look where I put them to make sure there isn't a puddle, or gum, or anything to stain the bag before I set it down.

My new Fendi Spy I wouldn't put on the floor, but that's only because the leather is super thin and delicate, so I don't think it would fare well like my Coach's do. Coach is truly the best brand for my lifestyle. Love them.

As long as I can tell that the floor appears clean, I will put ANY of my bags on the floor. If I was THAT worried about it getting dirty, I wouldn't buy something so risky. I have hung bags from a chair, though.

Okay, I just read the other thread and can understand the comment about the subject being controversial. Wow, we can be some judgemental people can't we? Yeesh. I've yet to get sick or die from putting my bag on the floor. *L* Maybe I just have a hearty immune system, who knows. Though I am totally in agreement about the bathroom floor, and movie theater floors. Yuck, they're just sticky and disgusting, so of course m'bags don't go on those floors. *L*

My bags go on the floor. One exception --
Bathrooms -- my bag doesn't touch the floor, ever.

I throw them around too.. they're not made of glass.. they're not going to break :p

Of course if I go out for dinner, I will put it on an extra chair if there is one. If not.. it goes on the floor wrapped around my ankle. I don't like to put it on the back of the chair because it's easier to steal.

I know that these bags are not cheap.. BUT if I have to waste my time "protecting them" from everything, it sort of kind of detracts from my enjoyment of the bag; kwim?

i can understand some bags never going on the floor. white ones, for example. or something more delicate like the katy tote. but coach's sig and leather is pretty durable

honestly, i could care less what people do with their bags. if you want to be super careful, fine. if you want to throw it around and put it on the floor, why should i care? kwim? it's a silly thing to worry about. if you don't like it, don't do it! simple enough.

i do, however, agree that bathrooms are icky. i always think of moms who bring their little boys in- and they "miss". lol.

I am careful but not crazy when it comes to my bags. We come in contact with germs and dirt EVERYWHERE and you just have to use common sense. Money is filthy, so are handrails and doorknobs. Most of us survive handling those things. I am good about washing my hands but I have noticed that my friends who are germaphobes and slather themselves in Purell all day aren't any healthier than I am. I HAVE been known to hang my bag around my neck in a bathroom stall that doesn't have a hook. Public bathrooms are too gross for my shoes much less my bag. Some people can't take these things in stride. They NEED to be vigilant or they will become way too upset. That's OK by me-whatever get's you through the night. We all have our "thing".

I have a purse hanger. I got it from www.pursejewelry.com. It hangs off the side of any table and allows you to put up to 20 lbs on it. It really works and people actually come up to me and ask me where I got it. It's so convenient and it slips right in your purse when you're done. Here's a pic:

I am sorry...didn't know this topic was controversial!

You know, I frequent the Disney World message boards (DISboards.com) and there are a few controversial topics on there...the first that comes to mind that can be easily explained is "pool hopping." People want to stay at the cheapest Disney Resort yet want to use the pool at an expensive resort. Well, it mya be an innocent question, but old timers jump all over their a$$ and accuse them of trying to skirt the system. I used to roll my eyes when people ask questions like that...I figured they were idiots or trolls trying to stir up trouble. But now that I am on the other end of it here on this board, I see that if you are new to a board it is easy to start trouble without meaning to!

I am not into LV purses, so I have not been to that board. And to the poster who has a Panamanian MIL...I live in S FL with lots of South Americans and they would NEVER put their purse on the floor because of the bad luck thing...supposedly it signifies all of your money falling out if your purse is on the floor! Many upscale restaurants down here have little silver trays on wheels that the waiter puts next to you for your purse, for that very reason.

I understand about not being afraid of germs. Believe me I am the LEAST germphobe person you will ever meet. My friends make fun of me...I love buffet restaurants, will share a drink with almost any one...I actually SIT ON toilet seats...no paper on them! *gasp*

But, I was thinking ...I put my purse on my table, kitchen counter, car seat, etc. I would not put the bottom of my shoes on those places, so therefore I would not put my purse there if my purse has been on questionable surfaces. And if I had an expensive purse, I would really be extra careful. This is one reason I have yet to buy a really nice purse. To me it is kind of a luxury to *not* care about my purse!

Ah, Handbag Ashley, that is what that contraption is. I saw a pic of it in another thread and was completely clueless what it was but wow, what a great idea. I'm gonna have to get myself one of those.
As to my purses, I put my purses on my floor (carpeted) and my friends floors if they are carpeted. When in a resturant, it has to go on the back of my chair, another chair or on the table where food won't be touching it. It can NEVER touch the floor in the bathroom, and if I am missing a hook in a stall, I put the strap over the edge of the door while closing it and it stays put.
The movie theater floor is the worst, sometimes I don't even want to leave my feet on the ground if it is that disgusting. I try and keep a seat open next to me for my bag, or it goes in my lap or my dh's lap.

please don't apologize! it's perfectly fine! welcome to tpf!!

and as another disney fan, I can see where the 'pool hopping' issue would be heated.

it's funny what sets people going when it comes to something their passionate about.

Disney is the BEST. I can't wait to go to Disneyworld some day. *le sigh*

I can understand people getting upset about the pool hopping thing. My mom and I paid lots of money for VIP tickets to my fav bands concert. Because we paid so much, we got to meet the band and then sit way up front by the stage. When the actual concert started, people who'd only paid for the bleacher seats started coming forward and standing in the aisles, and some even started taking the seats of others whenever they got up to use the bathroom or go get a drink. It made me so mad! Mom and I paid an insane amount of money for those seats, but someone who paid hardly anything got the same view I did. And security wasn't doing anything about it. It was really upsetting.

I never put my bags on the floor. They either go behind my chair, on an empty seat or if there is no place for it I put my leg through the strap and let it hang from my thigh. It never touches the floor and my lap is free. I've also sat it behind me in the chair.
