Do you have an (Hermes) clutch life?

Ok, I do sort of have a clutch life, at least some of the time. Even at my age, I had four weddings to attend this year. Plus DS2’s Bar Mitzvah. And we are always out. I am waiting for my Mini Kelly to arrive, and in the meantime for very formal I use my black Constance Wallet.

I should add that I am hesitating over what to bring on our ski trip this year. No one carries a purse. Literally zero people, ever. The first year I went my B stayed in my luggage the whole time. The second year I can’t remember whether I brought a bag, I just remember only carrying my Constance wallet to dinner. When I’m actually skiing everything important is stashed in a flat case in a pocket on my person, so I don’t really need a bag at all except at night when I’m not wearing ski clothes.

I mostly need evening bags for the theater/opera/symphony and decided recently that I’m tired of fiddling around with the program and opening and closing a bag so an exterior pocket is a requirement. I was contemplating a Constance wallet in Noir just for the pocket.... Apparently H bag designers don’t go to shows a lot. My dream evening bag would be a Kelly pochette in black silk with a guilloche clasp in PHW and an exterior pocket. And while they’re at it, they could go ahead and make me one in beige kid too.

Actually way back when in those good old days, Hermes did an evening bag in a style similar to the FACO
in peau de soie as well as other luxurious silks with shoes to match!!

So please report on how you like using your Constance wallet as a clutch. Are you happy with it?

A Kelly Pochette in black satin- now that’s an idea!:hbeat: I did see this on line and hope to check them out in Paris. I wonder if any TPF members have one.

Those “good old days” were my days, too. Shoes and bags always matched.....and I still lean towards that even though I’ve been told for years that matchy-matchy” isn’t “in”.

The only Hermès bags I have are clutches. I don’t live a formal lifestyle, but I carry clutches often, more than any other style I have. (I have purchased primarily Bottega Veneta bags for about ten years, but prefer larger clutches than the Knot for practical reasons.) I also like Asian design and architectural influences in bags. So, when I saw an Octogone, I was hooked. Then I saw a Baton de Craie. Then a 2004 Verrou. What can I say? I see eccentricity as being a positive trait and a great cover for impulsive decisions. :yahoo:

Most of the H clutches I have also come in shoulder bag versions. I simply see my clutches as regular bags but without the straps. I occasionally carry a clutch in a tote, especially when I travel. The tote also carries other things and can stay in the hotel room or car trunk when I don’t need it and I simply carry the clutch. Did I mention my ability to rationalize my choices?

I’ve posted a few mod photos on this forum and I’m always casually dressed (usually in jeans) and carrying a clutch. A clutch forces me to edit how much I carry and that’s been a good lesson for me. I think it’s important to note that I’m vintage myself, so I don't need to carry children’s necessities with me or things like snacks.

All these are frequent flyers, except the Verrou. It’s just a bit too small for me to use often.
Yes, I could easily get by with one clutch if I just used it for dressy occasions, and I might get to that point some day, but not yet.....

The matchy matchy look is back - more or less.

I am a big admirer of your clutch collection and general aesthetic. I think it’s nice that you have allowed a few different colours, variety on colour but consistency in shape.:hbeat: They look well suited for daytime use just as you say.
I’d love to find something in silk or vintage ( but nothing crocodile - against my environmental conscience )

Thank you! I am sticking with the H styles that drew me to Hermès. I don’t need more but an octogone in rouge h is whispering from the website through my iPad and into my ear. I’m trying to resist but.....

I am very happy with it - like 95%. I wish there was a bit more interior space so I could fit maybe just a little more. But it’s great - holds all cash and cards, my iphone, a mini Purell, lipgloss. I do like that back pocket for a card, table card and coat claim check.
