Do you freak out when people touch your purse?

I am not a touchy, feely person… I don’t like being touched by strangers, and I am extremely uncomfortable when people invade my personal space.

Recently, I had a hair appointment and was rushing to get to the salon on time, and totally forgot to leave my bag in the office, as I always do (on that particular day I was carrying one of my most cherished bags - - my black caviar jumbo classic single flap w/GH). After I arrived at the salon and checked in at the front desk, I took a seat to wait for my stylist and then realized I had mistakenly brought my Chanel with me and I instantly became very nervous and concerned that my bag might come in contact with some salon chemicals, dyes, colors, hair sprays, shampoos, or splattering water from the shampoo bowl.

I was truly freaked out and worried that my baby could get damaged! Before long, I saw my stylist coming to greet me and escort me back to her station, so I stood up and as I did another stylist approached me (she was holding a small plastic container of hair color in her left hand and mixing/stirring it with a brush in her right hand). Without a word, she reached out and touched my bag with her right hand, and I shrieked in horror that she may have had color residue on her hand when she touched my bag! I didn’t hesitate to admonish her about touching my bag without first asking permission. She apologized after my verbal scolding.

My stylist quickly provided a towel for me to wrap my bag in and I kept it in my lap, covered during the entire appointment. Whew!

Omg I had just bought my bag and the wrapped box was sitting on the dining table. I went out to get some pizza, and came back to my auntie removing the ribbon from the box trying to "get a peek".

I freaked out. I guess it isn't as bad as a stranger touching the bag, but still. I'd prefer to open the box myself thank you very much.

haha that's really rude...it's like opening someone's letters without their permission.

I'm happy for people I know to touch my bags. What I get really annoyed about is people carelessly pushing shopping trolleys and bashing them into my bags...especially at the supermarket

I don't really like it when people get into my personal space, unless it's family or close friends. I had a NM sales person come up, and tell me she loved my Chanel and started touching it but she quickly pulled away. I just laughed, and didn't freak out because she realized she was overstepping lol. I think if someone kept doing it without asking, I would be PO'd.

Mostly people who won't ever consider purchasing a Chanel bag want to touch it..like how weird is that..one person even told me when I told her I worried about damaging it, no it wont scratch..let me try! WHAT!!!!!! so that was the last time I tried to be friendly, now you just cant touch it, thats better for everyone.....:pokey:

I am super worried about getting mine scratched since it is my first one. I made a thread a little while back about how I came across a text from my husband to my SA about surprising me with a Chanel purse for Christmas... its been a little over a week maybe that the box came in the mail. He tried to lie and say that it was from work but he couldnt hold it in anymore and told me it was my Christmas present. I know its in there and I am dying to know what I got lol. I am sure no matter what it is I will love it but the anticipation is killing me and I keep thinking its going to be lambskin and I am afraid its going to get ruined :(

Disgusting how far some people try to push their luck. I've had a girl try touch my bag once but my partner blocked her arm out the way. He's always on the look out :)
On that note he even protects the bags in the Chanel boutique to stop other people trying to grab them whilst I'm deciding which to take home with me. He's more protective then me over them LOL.

Oh I remember that thread. Glad you didn't tell him you saw that text with your SA about your Christmas present. Otherwise he'll never surprise you again:( I only have the small chain around in (I think it's called) washed lambskin...anyway, I was using it often for about two weeks until I noticed some golden eyeshadow was in the front flap (you seen the new round Chanel eyeshadow that is cream based?) I must have touched my eye then my bag. That's too delicate for my lifestyle but I think that bag is so cool. (Sigh)As long a you act super surprised and thankful, asking him to exchange for caviar or something else won't be a big deal. Others if you love lambskin then awesome!!

That is super bad manners to grab bag others are considering to buy right in front of them! They need to learn manners since they obviously weren't taught them. Can't stand that:storm:

Hah! I love that emoticon. I hope no one tries to touch my bag. I'd be horrified.

It is but in harrods people seem to get into frenzy when something rare comes out from the back. It's like there's a pound sale happening!

I would only freak out if it seemed ill-hearted in nature i.e. they had intentions of pick-pocketting, etc. But other than that, I really don't mind as long as you ask first because valuable or not valuable a bag is still something very personal.

I agree, a purse is very personal. I think its somewhat an invasion of privacy when people will just grab and try on something of yours. I dont think I would ever react in a mean way to someone who touches my purse but at the same time on the inside I would freak out. I just hope that others would have respect enough to not touch when their fingers are dirty...

~i am very careful with my purses aka babies:love: so i always keep them beside me or would check and see if d surface is clean before i even put it on top of a table or chair but never on bathroom sinks or floors:nogood: i think i would freak out a little if someone i don't know would just touch it w/o asking my permission first:sneaky: :nono: althou... if they ask nicely i will prol would let them see it or touch it if their hands are clean:giggles::tender:
