I really feel like LV has been trying to appeal to the young influencer crowd by pumping out too many flashy, impractical 'statement bags' instead of sticking to what made them great in the first place.
Except I don’t even really see their bags being popular with the young influencers to begin with. I’m not sure who their target customer is anymore… I’m not sure if they even know! Their designs have been so confusing.

I adore the vintage designs, and the only new designs that really catch my eye are the ones similar to the classics. A big part of the reason I haven't bought any newer ones beyond my Diane is because they've gotten so expensive and the quality has plummeted. I could toss my early 2000s bags off a cliff and they'd be fine, in contrast my Diane started showing wear on the leather flap piping within 3 months

I really feel like LV has been trying to appeal to the young influencer crowd by pumping out too many flashy, impractical 'statement bags' instead of sticking to what made them great in the first place. I'm simply not spending $5k on an impractical bag crafted from virgin unicorn hide that can be damaged by negative thoughts in a bright color that goes with nothing, won't fit my phone, with a puzzle box closure that will either summon Pinhead or earn eyerolls from everyone behind me in the checkout while I struggle to extract my wallet. I'll hit up ebay Japan for a classic for a few hundred bucks instead, no contest.
i completely agree. my collection is mainly classic pieces, including those no longer in production. i've had quite a few repairs done recently and the SAs always marvel at the quality of the canvas, despite many of the items being 30+ years old. i'd rather repair and reuse than buy into hype.

although: i did purchase the pochette metis while living in new york as a work bag but soon sold it after leaving to pursue a master's degree. i added the micro metis as a fun night out bag and it fills the space my original metis left behind. the only other "new" style i've purchased is the valisette tresor, but to me it's a trunk which is what the company was originally known for.

Yes I absolutely love those old styles! They are very classy and luxe to me!

When I compare those old styles with new styles, there are very visible changes. First, they seem to have a new target population. And this new population pairs LV logos with cheap and fast fashion, especially on social media and in those typical "instagram" locations. Also, there are major changes when it comes to collabs. Back in the days they made collabs with very creative designers. It felt more exclusive. Nowadays their collabs are more about spreding the logo. They made major changes in their concept and design. Back in the days it was about travel in style. Nowadays, it is about spreading the logo, and the idea of travel is not there anymore. Their designs used to be elaborated, with details and of high quality, whilst now their bags are of fast design and lower quality! Overall, nowadays it is not about class and creative and unique designs anymore.

Old styles were and still are so luxurious! I still drool over the Suhali leather bags, such as le Radieux. And then there is the Manhattan, the Trouville and the Deauville that are so luxe! No new design compares to those old ones! Even after 20+ years, those bags still look good, remain of high quality and feel luxurious!

That being said, there are some very chic designs out there. For example, the Capucines, the petite Malle, and a few other bags that are luxe and feel classy. But for some reason, nowadays I don't associate the brand with those very exclusive designs.

I guess I’m coming in with an unpopular opinion on this thread but… I prefer the newer LV! A lot of the old designs seem dated and a bit boring (I’m sorry!!) to me. My top three bags are my Petit Malle, 2023 Camera Box Bag and Pochette Metis. I have an Alma, but what I love best about it is the eyewatering shade of lime it comes in. I find the guitar straps a cute way to make a bag young and trendy, and when I get older / want to go somewhere formal, I’m happy to just ditch the strap.

I’ve personally not encountered any quality issues with any of my purchases, so perhaps that is colouring my perception, and my collection is small (11 pieces including SLGs and a belt) but I have to actively stop myself from adding to it (my current wishlist has 3 LV bags on it out of a total of 8 🙈). In contrast, when I look at my mom’s LV collection, a lot of her bags pre-2010ish seem dated to me (she has also pretty much stopped carrying them to be honest).

Oh, I love those old models you describe. I still would buy them, if they would exist.
I have the Deauville - loved that ad with JLo back then, so chic! And it is a great functional bag!
I also loved the Trevi, Tivoli, Manhattan, Saumur and what else they had from the MJ aera! Some of the newer styles I like, too, like the Neo Noe, Pochette Metis, Felicie and those which are more plain. Don‘t like all the mini bags, useless for myself. I really wish they would make more userfriendly and sturdy bags again. The thin canvas really is a tragedy.

I much prefer old Louis Vuitton styles, collabs, etc. I’m, as many are, a huge fan of Marc Jacobs era and 80s/90s styles.

“New” bags, current designs and limited editions look kind of out dated to me already. it’s rare that I see something newer I like but even more rare that I’m willing to buy at the current prices and (poor) quality.

Older LV feels (and was) so much better quality in the materials and hardware.
