Do you feel guilty about money spent on designer bags?

I don't feel guilty, exactly, but I do spend a significant amount of time thinking about my motivations for spending a lot more on a bag than it might actually be worth. Especially considering the economy and the fact that a lot of the premium designers seem to be cutting corners on quality. If I'm going to spend a lot on a bag, I really want it to be "worth it." And though people are always saying the quality of these more expensive bags is so much better, I haven't exactly found that to be true.

Recently with the news talking about the famine in Africa it has made me reflect and feel a twinge of guilt over being a purse nut:nuts::woot:. Infact, I do not think that I am going to buy another handbag this year and will donate to a charity to help with the famine. Anyone else feeling guilt over high end handbags and wanting more? I think that I am evolving. Don't get me wrong I lvoe handbags and think that they are walking forms of artwork. Just right now they are not everything and I do not need the latest and greatest LV every season. Being satisfied and drooling over others reveals is enough for the moment. Thinking out loud....;)

Not to sound like a know-it-all , but more than 50 percent of the money you donate to charities goes to the ceo, employees, marketing, etc etc. Personally, I believe in spoling yourself once in a while *Especially when you have worked your butt off for that handbag* But I agree with you about you don't need a new bag EVERYTIME a new one comes out.

I realized whenever i spend alot of money on a handbag, i feel extremely guilty after, almost as if i committed a crime. I mostly feel like this because i then think about all the stuff i could have bought for the price of that one bag. Example: for the price of one $2000 bag, you could probably buy a few pairs of shoes, new jeans, a nice dress, bunch of tops and maybe one lower end designer bag. So my question to you ladies is, do you have these thoughts as well? do you feel guilty after spending so much on a bag? what do you tell yourself to justify the purchase?

Same here, I fell guilty when I buy expensive bags. Just for me, I think that bag is nothing, if I use this money on Africa people or poor animal, it is very worth.

After so many years of not splurging on myself (and I mean years), I went nuts and have bought sooo many handbags, high end, low end, and in-between. Now I have enough handbags to last me many years.

Guilty? No way though I did break out in hot flashes after some of my more expensive purchases. :sweatdrop:

No, but I do find myself "saving through improvement" to buy fancy bags. (Like the year I quit smoking, I put all the money I would have spent on cigs in a savings account, not only was it an eye opener but it bought a very very expensive bag without me even feeling it since I would have spent the money without thinking anyway)

Now I need to lose a few pounds so I'm saving my junk food money.

Oooooh great idea! I'm going to try that :D (Trying to lose a few pounds, too!);)

No, I don't because I am not an impulse shopper. I actually "research" my purchases quite thoroughly first. I am indecisive about what I want sometimes and this actually helps me save money. I am all like "Do I want this, or should I spend the money on this?". That type of thing. But once I make a decision to buy something, I don't feel guilty at all.

I do feel guilty, but that is because I do not have a job, and my parents and my boyfriend, are paying for my luxurious items. I feel like I got to start getting a job to fulfill my wants :(

I get heart palpitations when I spend above a certain amount, but let's be honest - if I felt really, really horrible about it, I wouldn't do it! But, I'm also an absolute bargain hunter and refuse to pay full price for bags (or shoes, my other love) that are priced so ridiculously high and I also have a very small collection (fewer than 10).

While I still feel kind of bad, I also know I'm getting a great deal and really good value. I have 3 Jerome Dreyfuss bags, some of which are worth $1000K or close to it but I've always waited for sales (and just recently, NWT on eBay) and gotten them for -40% or more. The bags are still expensive, but they are such great quality and just fit my life/aesthetic really well. Ditto for my Mulberry, Balenciaga and Chanel (one of each). I view them as investment bags and I use them all frequently. So even though they are pricey, I don't really feel bad (I just have to be disciplined and not go TOO crazy!)

This is me too. I stopped the mindset of "Oh, this is cute, and it's only $10," while shopping. When it comes to clothes, I get what I want on sale, and they are of good quality. I don't smoke, I make my own lunches for work, I don't buy coffee or alcohol, little things that sneakily add up. Usually when I buy a bag (or a pair of Loubies), it's a treat for myself.
