The cure for guilt about buying bags is to actually use them - otherwise we might as well collect thousands of €$£ worth of pebbles or coloured paper

Hi Ladies!!

Was wondering if any of you ever feel guilty about splurging on a new expensive bag that you really didn't need???

I just bought the Chanel GST in dark Navy and am now feeling very guilty about spending so much on the bag when i already have a few Chanels, some bought quite recently!

Lemme know what you think!!

Congratulations for having so many Chanels, must be quite the personal happy trip!:D

That is my current dilemma right now!

Can I afford the bags? Most definately!
Do I want the bags? Yes, of course!
Do I need the bags? Well, not really.

I don't know what it is, but I do feel guilty about buying these bags for myself. Sure the money can go to another cause...vacation, the kids, etc. but yet I want these bags.

Maybe I feel guilty because the bags are so expensive. I never feel guilty when the bags are cheap, I don't even waiver about it. However, with expensive bags, I always wonder if it's worth it? Would these bags be the end of my obsession with bags?

I don't have many bags, but quite enough. All different, all unique in their own way and all serves its own purpose. I research bags, making sure I love it and want it, but still, at the end of the day, I feel torn about spending so much money on a bag.
I completely agree. I guess I have a set amount in my head that I'm willing to spend on a bag and if I go over it, I always feel guilty. I have several bags and like to switch them frequently. Maybe that's part of it, I know an expensive deisgner bag will not be used anymore than my less expensive designer bags.

In a word: "Yes". Most definitely! My last purchase was over the amount I believe on paying for a bag and I didn't buy it impulsively. I still don't know if I would do it again. That said, I do as Papertiger recommends and I wear it to death. Well, actually, there is no killing this baby! Gucci makes some iron clad leathers and this bag is one of them. Looks as new as the day I bought it. Back to topic. I think if one adheres to a certain spending amount and doesn't exceed that amount, there will be no guilt. It is when in a case like mine, I did "feel" the purchase. I was able to technically afford it, but it does bother me because I just don't like spending over a certain point and that goes for everything.

Yes, I most definitely do! Whenever I buy a new bag, I usually don't need it but I just really want it. But I justify my purchases by calculating my spending and seeing if I have extra money lying around. Also, I try to think about how many times I'll use the bag.

I"m in complete agreement with ACS. Now that I have multiple bags, I'm honestly not sure what to do with them. I don't use a handbag during the week because I have a work tote I put everything in. So that leaves only the weekend, where I'm usually just hanging out in jeans or whatever. I feel kinda silly toting around a nice leather/designer bag when in jeans and sneakers.

Oh, its even better to wear jeans and a designer bag!! Sweats even !!

Definitely yes when paying a large sum for a bag. I really feel so guilty to have my Chanel bag instead of using this $$$$ for other purposes. It is not that I could not afford it but it is just sitting in my closet. This is a lesson learned for me.

Yes! All the time! I could've definitely used all the money I spent on bags last year to pay off my car.

I know I don't need anymore, but I keep wanting to get my collection "just right". :shame:

No, I never feel guilty.
Then again, I only get a designer piece maybe once or twice a year. Which means that I really really really wanted that particular item for quite some time and that I did tons of research on the Internet.
I don't have a problem spending so much money.
I also purchase most of the designer pieces for my sister or my mom and since I love them so much, i have no problem splurging on a gifts for them at all. They're worth every penny.
