i never feel guilty about the money i spend on bags because its my money and its meant for me to do whatever i see fit. and i see bags as being fit, lol but no seriously I work hard so I play hard. and buying a bag or two is the way i reward myself for working hard. as long as all the bills are paid, nothing behind and all major needs are fulfilled than I don't see any reason to feel bad.

Honestly, I don't feel any guilt. Any money I spend, I made off my own labor and talent, so feel it's mine to spend if I wish. My purchases are generally well-planned: I like looking good, and bags are part of my wardrobe and lifestyle. I also keep my bags for years, trot them out often, and enjoy the heck out of carrying them. I get my money's worth out of every purchase. They're not frivolous; they're part of how I communicate and interact with the world. I don't see anything to feel guilty about.
I agree 100% with ya Linda. I couldn't have said it better myself. :smile1:

I realized whenever i spend alot of money on a handbag, i feel extremely guilty after, almost as if i committed a crime. I mostly feel like this because i then think about all the stuff i could have bought for the price of that one bag. Example: for the price of one $2000 bag, you could probably buy a few pairs of shoes, new jeans, a nice dress, bunch of tops and maybe one lower end designer bag. So my question to you ladies is, do you have these thoughts as well? do you feel guilty after spending so much on a bag? what do you tell yourself to justify the purchase?

No, because when I do I've either saved up or found a great deal. Then again I am not one of the lucky ones who can spend thousands on a bag. My limit is around $400. If I bought a bag that cost more than that I think I might feel guilty simply because I have a budget to stick to. But if your bills are paid and you can afford it, why feel anything but joy? :smile1:

Not when I know I can afford it, so if you know you can afford the bag and you or no one in your family is going to go hungry or without clothing because of the purchase, then go for it.

Do I feel guilty? No. I try to spend my $ "wisely" and I know what my comfort level is. I don't buy anything I can't afford. I do admit when I buy a bag that is full retail (which I haven't done in awhile), I feel a bit disappointed that I didn't score a deal. I much prefer purchasing second-hand or with some sort of free shipping/no tax promotion.

I only feel guilty when I use allocated $ to buy something I did not intend to buy (aka impulse purchase). I try to make a concerted effort to stay within my mental budget and as long as I'm contributing to DS's 529 plan, all is well. ;)

I've been going back and forth on the guilt thing. i had recently posted a thread on Nancy Gonzalez or Carlos Falchi. Well, i ended up purchasing the nancy gonzalez. A black/gray fold over cluch bag w/ strap for over $2,000 and I've gotten over the guilt. . I'm at the point now where i feel i want to spend my money on some investment pieces. A crocodile bag (to me) fits that criteria. It's classic, no logos, not color specific and will wear beautifully over the years.

No. I only buy bags one ( or maybe maximum twice) per year.

Since quality handbags are expensive I don't purchase them as often as I would clothes.

If I did it more often, I would probably feel guilty or like it was a waste.
So I don't purchase that much.

Just a comment on what you listed that you could get for that $2000 bag ... how about any of this: a new gazebo for the back yard, a good used car to get to work, a color laser printer, a trip to another country (that includes meals and vehicle), a romantic spa weekend getaway, a fur coat, 20 pairs of $100 jeans (if you live in a US state with no tax on clothing.)

Perspective, m'dear, perspective.

As for the answers to your questions: No guilt, because I am mentally unable to wrap my brain around spending $2000 on a handbag. Ever. Whether or not I had the money to spend. I did make an attempt to spend $1300 recently and returned the bag within 24 hours because I couldn't stop thinking it was some kind of weird precious cargo that couldn't be touched.

I need therapy for lots of things, but I'll be damned if I'll go into therapy because I can't carry the handbag I just bought.;)

No, because I am the bigger income-earner in the family and I deserve to shop for myself when I get my yearly bonus. And it's either several little things or one expensive bag. The family vacations, house mortgage/maintenance, car payments -- big chunk from my salary. So, no. I deserve it. I would only feel guilty if there is another need to pay something like kids' tuition and then I would buy a bag at the same time. That would be irresponsible of me, so in essence I wait for that time when it's all...about me!

I agree with all your comments. If you can afford it and all your other bills are paid off then why not treat yourself? But I personally still can't get over how many other things i could buy for the price of one designer bag, i haven't spent more than 500$ on a bag yet cause i'm still a student but even with my $500 purchase, the whole way home i was thinking to myself "wow i could have bought my whole summer wardrobe for that" haha, BUT it was a damn good purchase and i know i'll be using that bag for years:D

when i was a student i didn't spend more than $150 on a bag. i have been in my career for 10+ years so I make enough money to justify a $1500 purse. I also don't own alot of handbags and always sell one in order to buy a new one.

I was mid-50s before I ever had a bag that cost more than $50! I have 5 in the $300 range now and feel hopelessly decadent - until I go in the LV forum and see the folks with 30+ $1000-5000 bags! Then I feel hopelessly impoverished!
