Do you ever wish you had spent your money on jewelry instead of bags?

I have collected diamond jewelry for years and have "upgraded" on all till I got the size and quality I wanted. While I collected lovely bags, as well, I "found" Hermes. You know the rest of the story.....................!!!

Good question!
I've spent a lot on both. At this point, I pretty much have enough shoes (really!), I try to limit my spending on bags. I'm lucky that I've been able to sell off a good part of my bag collection to fund my recent jewelry purchases.

Now, I find myself asking - Do I really "need" 3 birkins? and what could I buy instead? It's a contant cycle.

My jewelry is definitely more exp than all my bags , shoes, and clothes combined. Do I consider this a good investment? I don't know, it really depends on many factors, only time will tell. I surely wish I'd start buying bags earlier in my life. I'm only interested in bags ever since I joined TPF (2007)...

I also started out with jewellery. I had a part time job during uni at a couple of jewellery stores and that got me into wearing and buying jewellery. (i never used to bother before) So I amassed quite a large amount of jewellery, some of which I wish I had not bought as I rarely wear most of it these days.

My co-workers got me addicted to bags as they are all very well dressed and have the most beautiful bags!! I was pretty happy with my cheap synthetic bags before but once bitten by the bug, got pretty out of control with the bag buying. I think I have about a dozen branded bags now and a mini cupboard full of jewellery. I would start selling, but resale value on ebay is heartbreaking!

I'm so not a bag girl... but if I think about some of the dresses I've bought (I am a dress HOG! I have SO MANY DRESSES!) and what kind of jewels I could have bought with that money (I've just recently gotten into "fine" jewelry) I could throw up!! I've been trying to squeak $1000 more into my e-ring budget to go up 10 points and OMG - I dropped that SO easily at Shopbop a few weeks ago! SO easily! I buy dresses without even a thought.

Exactly, a bag will eventually get worn out and have to be thrown away. A good piece of jewelry should last pretty much for always, so it seems like a smarter place to spend money.

I think it depends on the bag as well as the owner - you could say that anything will become worn if not looked after, jewellery included. Look at Hermes bags - they are investment pieces that last a lifetime and can be passed down generations (as with fine jewellery), and also can be sent to spa where any cleaning/repair can be done so increasing their longevity. Classic bags never go out of fashion, have a resale market and bring a lot of joy. Either way, too much of either can decrease how "special" they are and so maybe mean that they are not appreciated/used as much. After all, the reason to buy is to use and get pleasure from isn't it? Just my opinion...

No regrets on bags, I have a lot of jewellery ranging from loads of Tiffany items, Chanel, Gucci, Swarovski, diamonds, pearls, white gold, yellow gold, silver, opals, sapphires and have just bought a Tag Heuer Aquaracer two tone watch so am happy with my jewellery.

Bag wise I love all of them and only want to add a Chanel PST to complete my collection :)

Bags wear out? When?

As for the original question - I go in phases. I buy several pieces of jewelry, several bags, several pairs of sunglasses, a half dozen pairs of shoes, a couple of scarves. Pretty much in that order. So my collection is pretty balanced.
Every six months to a year, I'll evaluate what I have, and sell off what I don't need or use regularly.

.

Oh, dear, I had no idea that bags could last so long??? Maybe I need to send mine in for cleaning & repairs more...

I am very hard on my bags, I live in the city, commute by train and haul my stuff around everywhere. I have actually worn an actual hole :shucks:through a classic Coach purse (the kind with the thick leather) in only about 2 years of mostly daily use!

Umm, I'm having a lil' bit of a conundrum about this issue right now, do I want to buy a guccissima leather large hobo or do I want to buy a small pink diamond (irradiated, VS2-SI1 clarity) or an even smaller natural pink diamond (I1 clarity)????? Please see my thread "a lil' diamond help please" I've included pics of the 2 stones in question.
