Do you ever wish you had spent your money on jewelry instead of bags?

Funny, I've been a member here for 2 years and not once ventured in the Jewelry forum until just recently. I noticed it was time for some new pieces. I don't regret it because the handbags were what I wanted (still do) at the time.

So far, I've invested in both equally, but will probaly end up spending far more on bags. I invested in classic pieces of jewelry, one time purchases. Bags however are like a never ending issue, new styles, colors, every season. No regrets.

I feel like I have a nice balance of bags & jewelry. My parents have been quite generous is giving me gifts of jewelry, and DH has purchased nice pieces for me too.

i was just thinking the same thing yesterday! I opinion goes back and forth...but i guess i balance things out by buying some of each...

...then I look at my beautiful pelham... ahh... =)

I think a fashionista really needs both (nice bags and jewellery). I gues the trick is to find some balance. But as far as value for money goes, I'd feel better paying $$$ for gold (which has an intrinsic value) vs leather.

Yes, that is why I started spending my money on jewelry a few years ago instead. In my opinion, purse styles come and go, but jewelry is timeless.

Yup, same here. I used to buy a lot of handbags but when I realized I didn't use half of them and that there was always a new style to get, I decided to invest in a few classic timeless handbags and sold all the rest to put torwards jewelry! My jewelry is classic and I will wear it for a very long time.

Yes, absolutely!

I've invested in classic handbags - ie the Chanel flaps - and though they're more expensive now, the quality is down. Jewelry quality doesn't really go up and down - it's either good or it isn't. Plus, the wear and tear on jewelry is less than on a handbag. I guess I'm just taking a practical approach to things that are intrinsically whimsical :p Or maybe I'm wanting things to last longer, now that I'm in my 30s and can't update my trendy things year after year.

No. I really like the few bags that I have. And I'm kind of sentimental about jewelry. I really like it if someone else buys it for me (not like I don't want to spend the money, it's just more special, I like it to have a story behind it, you know?) For instance, my parents got me an aquamarine necklace (my birthstone) for Christmas one year, and then a matching ring for my birthday a few months later. My boyfriend got me a pearl necklace for a different birthday, and a diamond heart necklace for Christmas this year. I only have a few pieces of nice, real jewelry (I have LOTS of costume jewelry, lol) but they're all very special to me.

Whereas I buy new handbags as much as I can afford to. I really love them and there's almost always a new one that I'm wanting...lol.

I feel the same way. While I have always loved the designer bags I purchased, I am not interested in switching bags the way I can with jewelry. With rings, bracelets, watches, and earrings
there is always something that tempts me.
Many of the pieces I have had forever have increased in resale
value almost 10 times over if I wanted to sell them.

Regardless of bags or jewellery for me it's about buying things that are classic and timeless - that I can wear in ten or 50 years time. I'm not into trends or fads.

yes. I think as I am getting older I start to gravitate towards jewelry a lot more. Simply because i love the craftsmanship and I can actually wear them more often than when I was in school.

Recent trends have really sucked me in with the layering and the statement pieces. also Gilt has enabled me to purchase fine jewelry without the huge price tag. I think i'm slowly building up my own little paradise (faster than handbags) :wlae:

I've also realized that at work (where i spend most of my time now), you are not really carrying your handbags in the office:thinkin: so I actually get face tome out of jewelry lol.

Also I was always running into issues that i never have the right earring or necklace to go with my outfit.

I love my handbags still and I am lusting for more. I think it upgrades or enhances the tone of your outfit and jewelry is the icing on the cake! :)

My money will always be spent more on jewelry than bags. I love staring at my sparklies when I'm bored and I think they really polish an outfit.

A bag... is a bag. I put stuff in it and carry it around. I just need something with a zipper that doesn't clash with my outfit. It's not something I care to spend money on. If it's the right color and has the necessary pockets/zippers/etc. that I need, it's all the same to me. I'd rather spend $20 than $2000.

i love quality bags and jewelry. i do consider those jewelry pieces that i want to have forever (my signature pieces) as an investment, as i would a classic bag. other "fun" bags and jewelry i try to get on sale.

Im on the fence about it...

On one hand..I use my bags everyday without thinking but I cant really wear all my jewelry anytime...sometimes I think that jewelry will put unnecessary attention...and I hate attention...lol!

On the other...jewelry will last longer and will be more valuable in the long run, although it is relative to a certain point.....

All I know is...its easier to quite jewelry than bags for me right now....
