Do you ever wish you had spent your money on jewelry instead of bags?

Good question! Got me thinking.

I wasn't into jewelry until very recently and I have never bought any myself. So far, I still only have 3 pieces of jewelry but they are all expensive Tiffany platinum pieces -

- wedding set, from DH,
- stud earings, gift from my mom after she finally persuaded me to get my ears pierced,
- my beautiful necklace, gift from my grandma.

I just realized that my jewelry actually cost much more than all my bags combined! As someone who wasn't into jewelry, I sure was wearing a fortune! My only consolation is that I have been wearing all of them everyday since the day I got them.

I think gold and precious gems are a better investment than handbags, but that's just me. I think about if times get REALLY hard (like in the GReat Depression or something like that):wtf:, trying to trade a gorgeous Gucci or LV bag vs a 24K gold ring or necklace for a piece of bread....I think someone will happily take the jewelry before a super expensive bag--but maybe not! :woohoo:

Good point. I have to agree but I love my bags all the same.

I feel the same way. While I have always loved the designer bags I purchased, I am not interested in switching bags the way I can with jewelry. With rings, bracelets, watches, and earrings

there is always something that tempts me.

Many of the pieces I have had forever have increased in resale

value almost 10 times over if I wanted to sell them.

Love your avitar shanam  what kind of dog is that if I may ask? She is beautiful!

Must I choose between the two? That's like asking me which hand I want cut off! I think both can be good investments, but it really all depends on what you're going for. For the price of one really nice/expensive piece of jewelry, you can often buy 2+ bags that will last you an equally long time. I think it just comes down to what you consider a better investment.

I can't limit myself like that so I buy both, much to the detriment of my bank account.

I always think about it when I buy a bag! "If i don't buy this bag, what piece of jewelry could I buy instead?" and sometimes I find myself buying jewelry instead of bags because of that...good thread!

I'm an equal-opportunity buyer, I spend money on both! I alternate :p generally but have been known to imbibe on both at the same time :graucho: then feel guilty then get over it and parade my new bling and arm candy. It's funny how all of a sudden you feel the need to go out on the town when you've got new stuff to play with ;)

Regardless of bags or jewellery for me it's about buying things that are classic and timeless - that I can wear in ten or 50 years time. I'm not into trends or fads.

^ ITA.. I'm more into classic and timeless pieces that hold value, ie. Hermes & Patek. Of course I tell my DH I need a new watch & want another bag...:graucho:

Currently (this could change, of course) I only want one other LV. I AM LUSTING OVER DIAMOND STUDS FOR A BIT NOW! They're so timeless and classic I may get these first before I get the LV Boetie MM. My Boetie obsession may change if a new handheld tote comes out that I like more. But those studs I can wear FOREVER! NEED TO WIN THAT LOTTERY!

I've basically stopped buyng bags unless its out of necessity ( like ineed a more polished bag compared to my balenciagas) for my new job. But all of my fun purchases are now jewellery. I love that I can wear them 24/7 not just when i go out.
