Well, quite frankly I've read quite a few on these forums lately waiting for the newest and most expensive Coach releases......quite a few are complaining about the 'quality' issues. They're all sending them back, hoping for a better version.
I haven't noticed this lately. Nearly everyone seems to be happy with their latest purchases. Those being sent back are generally due to the size or weight. I remember there being more problems in the recent past.

If you go to the Fall Preview-Rogue Bag discussion you'll find several who are returning their bags due to defects, not just weight.
As for your comment of there being more problems in the recent past I can't really say but perhaps so. I guess there will always be defects to some extent no matter the brand.

Unfortunately, even the likes of LV has these quality control issues too, and iirc, most of their problems run right across the made in USA/France/Spain borders. :-/ Just off the top of my head, the problems with the empreinte Lumineuse (cracking, wasn't it?), straps on damier ebene Neverfull, and yikes -- remember that other shoulder bag that had actual ripping of the canvas near the strap attachments on each side (think it was damier ebene, but didn't pay attention for long since the style was way wrong for me)? I know people are sometimes accused of being overly picky, but once entire threads are devoted to the recurring problem, it does go on your "never buy" list. Sigh. :-/

The solution is to get people to stop being sloppy or greedy. Heh ... anyone know how to reverse human nature?

LOL. at your last line. Very true, as i said no brand is immune of coarse this anniversary line dropping with a higher value will make folks be more best word i can find i demanding which is not quite the one i mean but i think the point is the same.

How a company handles aftercare and/or defects, issues matters loads too.

I consider brands that do not discount or go on sale like Hermes, Chanel and LV premium. I do not have Hermes, but I do have Chanel and LV. The products also hold good resale value and the companies provide aftercare.

My next tier that I own are Burberry and Gucci. Both have outlets and have sales. If I truly want something, I will buy FP, if not, I will wait for the sale. I will not purchase made for outlet bags.

My final tier is Coach, Dooney, Mansur Gavriel and Longchamp.

I have had quality issues at all of the tiers. With LV, my issues have been resolved to my satisfaction, but have noticed a significant decrease in quality over the years that I have been purchasing their products. I am currently unhappy with MG and their cracked glazing is acceptable position, which I feel is unfortunate for a newer company.

I think Coach could reach my middle tier if they improve the quality of their products like they have with their higher end collections (I had sold off almost all of my Coach and started repurchasing with Borough, Swagger, Rogue and Dinky) and use the craftsmanship bars to provide strong aftercare for their products. They also need to differentiate their products to move more upmarket and let Coach 1941 be the upscale line with better crafted bags and higher priced products. Coach could appeal to people looking for quality at a more reasonable price. I would prefer if the outlets were kept for 2nd quality products (like when I started purchasing) and had minimal MFF items - perhaps only logo canvas bags. My biggest issue with the outlets is seeing a FP knockoff with dramatically less quality than FP. That is the part that hurts the brand. I am fine with restricting discounts to a few times a year - I was fine waiting until PCE to get a discount. I waited forever to get a Borough until it was reduced. If I had it to do over again, I would have purchased Borough immediately.

Also, I lucked into seeing the black Rogue in a store that was a return and purchased it. I inspected it more carefully when I got home and thought the glazing on the top of the bag where each of the outside pockets expands closest to the middle compartment could have been finished nicer and ordered a 2nd bag to inspect. The 2nd bag went immediately back as the pebbling was much larger and looked less attractive to me. I am not sure there are truly perfect bags out there at a price I can afford.

Yeah, I know what you mean, and I agree with the prognosis. I actually like the new line, and would still like to get something from it, but I can't find anything that actually works for me. :-/ The Rogue is a little big and a little "too much bag" for what I carry (my kiwi Lyndsey is way too much too, but I just can't give up the color). The Saddle bags are wonderful, especially in pebbled, but I just can't deal with a flap that won't close in some way (my Shadow is extremely similar to these saddles, and has that wonderful pebbled leather, but it actually *closes*). The Dinky is a good size for me, but that kisslock would drive me up the wall when arranging my things in there. The clutches ... eh ... not fond of the snap as the closure, and the mini-skinnies ... I already have enough mini-skinnies. :-/

I'm hoping for something for fall, because I really do like the line. :-/ It's not the occasional problems with the bags/leather that's stopping me. I always pick mine up in the store anyway, and look it over while still in store. ... I *want* to get something, just can't find it. :-/

(Sorry for the ramble. It's just frustrating in that way.)

I get what your saying, i really wanted the dinky but due to nerve issues i cannot carry bags like that, and to leave it entirely as a clutch seems impractical. The other bags are not even on my radar, they are nice but not something i want at all.

One thing with Coach, more always comes out.

Exactly! None work for me for various reasons like you just said. I would have probably given the Dinky a try, but that kisslock pouch sticking out in the middle of the bag....sorry, that's just dumb. Space is at a premium in that small bag and to take a chunk of it away with that kisslock.....that just doesn't make sense to me. All I bought with my pce was a wallet and a fob.

I haven't bought a bag in a long time....I actually have been selling most of the ones I had because I no longer/ or never used them. I have been wanting a saddle bag, but the Coach ones just didn't do it for me. I did buy a Frye bag that I had been looking at for a long time, then last night I found a Badgley Mischka saddle bag that looks gorgeous in blue pebbled leather with gunmetal hardware.....and 58% off. :graucho: So those will have to do until / if Coach puts out something that does work for me. In the mean time I will just enjoy looking at the goodies posted on here.

I'd like to see the Badgley Mischka bag?!!

I just clicked onto the Mischka, and it's cute. Really nice color too ... it reminds me a *lot* of the "marine" color Coach did not long ago. Annnnnd, I see it has a closure. Something to keep the flap down and the items inside if it tips over. That's my dealbreaker with Coach's saddles.

My own saving grace is that I got one of the Shadow bags last autumn. It's the same size as the current small saddles (I know -- I plopped it right next to a saddle on the shelf ... it's almost as if it was the "pre-saddle" ), has the same thick black pebbled leather as black Rogue, the same soft suede inside the flap as the pebbled saddles, ..... and it actually closes. ;) I do understand Coach not wanting to mar the flap of the saddles with a turnlock, but why not a hidden magnetic clasp (like the Mischka you just pointed to), or a tab/slot catch like the Shadow? ..... Sorry for the whining. Sigh.

Just pm'd you....just in case someone gets bent out of shape for posting it in this thread.

That magnet and the full sized slip pocket on the back definitely helped sell it to me. I'm fine with just a fabric and not leather lining....it's that much less for me to worry about.

Got it. I love slip pockets. Carry my phone until the last minute and drop it in!!

IMO I really can't see Coach being a premium brand at all in the current economic situation. The brand is already successful as it is now in its own niche. The competition in the ultra lux world is far too fierce. Just look at the choice of bags they have on offer at Saint Laurent. Every ultra lux brands are mass producing and they are lowering their price point...
