I'm dump person I think, because I all way wear the leather handbag to work, and sometimes the weather rain like mad and I used the bag to covered my head the bag got wet.

Ironically, the day i read this thread, i was carrying a new camel-colored Tod's Bauletto, went out for lunch and got caught in the rain. It started pouring as we drove up to the restaurant. "Should i risk it?", i wondered. In the end I couldn't bear to let my bag get soaked on its first outing so i just grabbed my wallet & phone and left the bag in the car.

That said, last year i was caught in a torrential downpour in the middle of my son's soccer tournament. It was overseas, i wasn't familiar with the area, had no car to retreat to and there was no shelter in the field. Gosh the rain poured for what seemed like hours. I had my red Bauletto with me. It was drenched! But after it dried the next day, you wouldn't even know it got wet. Looked the same to me. And the contents remained dry, if a little damp. I just emptied it out in my hotel room and let it dry upside down, propped up by towels that i stuffed inside it so the handles wouldn't get deformed.

If its light rain and I don't have to go too far, yeah for sure but if it pelting down, no.. Heck, even I don't go out in that sort of weather. .. But if I need to get somewhere in that sort of weather, I usually have a plastic carry bag that I place my bag into, make the dash and then take it out.

I have a spray protector from MK boutique and water rolls right off my leather. I have seen it and think it is cool. In heavy rain running from car to house I duck it under my coat.. Lol.

As long as you have a quality protector on your leather you should not be worried about using your favourite bags in the rain. Most protectors are based on flurocarbon technology which forms an invisible barrier against water and most staining hazards, and the protection will improve the more you apply it.

For lighter colours its best to top up your protector once a week. It sounds a lot but if you spent thousands on a bag then its probably worth the effort. There are several great products available but i need to remain impartial. Both Lovin my Bags and Apple are good products if your in the USA. There is a new company in Europe which have taken the top end anti-soiling" technology from the automotive industry and blended it into a handbag formula. This give awesome protection! I know of this as the company I work for ran the tests on their product.

I carry both my Balenciaga City bags in the pouring rain - one is Anthracite (very dark grey) and the other is Papyrus (light taupe) and both are untreated and are completely unaffected by rain. I think some people worry that they're delicate owing to their high cost but they're surprisingly durable and sturdy.

The one bag I wouldn't want to get soaked is my Oak Mulberry Alexa but only because I've heard some horror stories about the leather staining. I have actually taken this bag out in the rain though and whilst she hasn't been soaked, she did get fairly wet and I just made sure I dried her off as soon as I could and there was no lasting damage.

In my experience, leather does hold up pretty well in the rain unless you get a very delicate type, eg. Mulberry haircalf bags are very delicate and shouldn't get wet at all!
