Do you carry your Leather bags in the rain??

I have a Balenciaga that I have treated once.
It's slightly older so I don't really care about it that much.. It hasn't been damaged by the rain.

I try not to use other bags in heavy rain. I would never, ever use lambskin leather in bad weather.

I think Chanel caviar is Ok unless we're having a downpour.

Until TPF, it never occured to me that leather bags weren't to be carried in the rain. The point of a leather bag to me was that it could withstand the elements and everyday wear. I've never had a problem with my less expensive leather bags in the rain, and I don't expect any problems with my designer ones.

Heck no. This is why I carry a large plastic bag with me at all times. Even if th leather turned out to resistant to water/water stains, I still wouldn't risk finding out the hard way.

Also being from NE, i know how the weather can be. I've been caught out in many a random rain storm with my leather bag. I have never had any problems with fading or spotting. i let it dry at room temp, and condition and treat it at least twice a year. Bags are wearable art, and should be able to accomodate your lifestyle!

I agree with you on Not using Lambskin in the rain..My very 1st Coach bag is a Soho suede demi flap..I don't use it anymore, but thats due to its size (too small), but Suede and water don't mix well...
I have carried my leather bags in the rain be it pouring or sprinkling without any problem so far..
:) Thank's for sharing!

i think water is REALLY bad for leather

but i drag my Frye leather bag out on rainy days. she is having a tough life with me!

:)
Too funny :) I think its a good thing that she is holding up for you..:p

I can Respect your opinion~ I guess we all live and learn..Sometimes we learn the Hard way!!But to me, I want to be able to enjoy my new bag without having to stress over how it will hold up in the climate.:p I'am Not to savy on leather, so this is why I asked, and happy I did..

Thank you :) You make some Great points...I have always heard that if a Leather bag gets wet, let it Air dry..I to think that our bags are meant to be carried, as they express some of who we are...So therefore, I would never buy a bag that had to be handled with too much care.I'am happy that I asked this question though..
I dont actually cos it will leave spotting onto the leather, first 'victim' my LV monogram
Awe sorry that happened to your bag...I think it makes a difference on what type of Leather is being carried in the rain..Like I mentioned, my Suede bag never seen the rain or snow here in NH. It also helps that some bag makers do Pre-Treat their bags.....

Just wanted to say Thank's again to all who have expressed their opinions on leather ....We learn new things everyday..I know to some, it may be silly that I'm not up to date on caring for a leather bag..But I have decided to just carry her rain or shine...Its not a huge bag, so if there was a horrible down pour, I could stick my bag under a jacket, or in her dustbag.:D

I don't think there will be any issue's, as long as the leather isn't Suede or a Lambskin that is very thin!! Its just to funny how we think about things like this here @TPF,lol..Some people could care less how they treat their bags, but I'm happy we do care because we will still have our bags years down the road.:p

I've never had problems with permanent water spots or overall change in leather with any of the leather bags I've carried in the (even pouring) rain so far, so yes I do...and in snowy conditions too. However, I often place first priority on leather bags that have more of a finish to them than my rawer leather bags.

I have, however, treated them once or twice with Apple Guard water resistence spray and conditioner, so I don't know if that has something to do with it.

One of my leather bags (Ignes) is pretty much water-repellent and I've never had a problem carrying it even in a downpour which we get often around here. It also went through 3 weeks of intensive abuse with plenty of snow when I went backpacking and it was my only daily bag. AWESOME.

Another bag is lamb and I got it in the open leather market in Florence. The weather was horrid and it was displayed out in the open, but showed no signs of disintegrating when I purchased it which I thought meant it was okay. Came back home to discover it was actually resistant to the water repellent spray, and that raindrops still lead to wet spots on the bag, but it never lasted long. I've abused it so much and it holds up really well!

I think it depends on the leather. Some pebbled leathers do better than my nylons, but I don't have any of those. So, for me I only carry nylon bags in the rain.

Thank's for sharing ;) I know when I have carried my other coach bags, the water just beads off them..I think that is due to fact that they are pre-treated..So I would hope where this bag is more expensive and made with better materials(Leather), then it should be fine...I know that some leather can take a lickin and keep on tickin..:p

I just wore my YSL out in the rain! It is pouring here in NY and I didn't have time to switch bags and quite frankly it pisses me off (pardon the pun) to even have to consider switching bags due to rain. All is well! Bags should endure even more than shoes. They are meant to be worn and used to carry our necessities. Being pretty is icing on the cake!
