Do you carry your Leather bags in the rain??

On the whole, yes, most leather bags are fine in a bit of rain, IMO.

However, a prolonged soaking certainly wouldn't be ideal and some do water spot (although, I doubt your grey one will).

I'm usually too scared to take my leather bags out in the rain! Little rain is find I think, but pouring is a no no! If you want to take it out you should use a product on your bag first like waterproof beeswax etc

Wow, I can't believe your siggy bag soaked through and almost ruined your cell. I really think my choice of bag will be more Leather than anything.Imo,it just seems More durable!!!! Thank's for sharing ~

It was a older Coach black on black canvas siggy - I asked about it on here when I first got it (consignment shop and the owner 'said' it was authentic) and someone said it was probably 2002 or older.

Maybe the newer ones are waterproof - I was going to buy one of the 'sateen' ones but the SA said they were 'water-resistant' and that sounded kind of 'iffy' so I went with leather.

Yup, always carry leather in the rain. Cows stand in the rain, my bag can withstand a little moisture too! ;) I jest.

But I carry them...can't worry about that issue too much. Will drive yourself crazy. Bags are meant to be used - rain or shine.
Thank you ;) I love your thinking..Too funny, but true!! Bags are meant to be used..Until I started buying Coach, I didn't really care..But you make a Great Point~I didn't pay $200.00 to just look at my new favorite bag..:p
I don't carry mine in the rain because I get soaking wet and so would my bag. I'm a walker so I'm out in the elements for long periods of time -- not just dashing to a car -- and the elements can be hard on leather, causing cracks and hardening.
Thak you :) Great points as well for those who walk..I do at times!!
sometimes I carry the leather bags in the rain, but generally i wouldn't do this.
Thank you :)

Thank you :) I do think leather can withhold some rain, like most have said, unless it is straight down pouring!!!Leather is,imo the most Durable type of bag to have..I have learned this from being here on TPF..This is why I waited for the Right one to come along.:p

oh, and if it does get caught in the rain do NOT dry on a radiator - i've learnt the hard way :(
Thank's for sharing :) I can only imagine what happened.

See, I agree with you for going with the Leather over the Sateen Fabric..Like I said, I was always a siggy girl, then I bought my 1st Nylon bag(the ski bunny glam)..I think this bag has held up good so far.I just bought it at the Outlet at the end of Jan..But is been through snow and rain,lol...So the Glam will be my Bad weather bag I guess..I have just grown out of the signature stuff, other that accessorie's..I will say, thank's to all of the Leather Lover's...I have Finally taken the plunge and Love It!!!!:p
i try not. a little sprinkle or a bit of snow is ok but if it is POURING then it is a le pliage day for me.
I live in New England(NH), so the weather here has a mind of its own,lol...I think I will be careful at 1st because it is the only good quality leather bag I have..We all no they aren't cheap by any means!!So I won't be buying alot of leather bags anytime soon..But I can learn from all of you on how to care for this one.;)

I live in a climate where it rains like 8-9 months out of the year. When I buy bags, the leather ones have to be treated/glazed/patent for me. They also MUST zip.

I also look at the care card to ensure it doesn't say not to get it wet. Long ago, I bought a bag without looking at the care card, then I got to my car and saw it and promptly returned it. I just can't deal with bags that don't handle rain, leather or otherwise, because then I would barely get to use it LOL

That's why I don't have a collection of bags so to speak. I have to use my bags and not view them as works of art. If I had that kind of $, I would probably buy art and not bags. :)

Same here. Bags have to be functional for me, or they end up collecting dust, and I feel guilty.

I would never buy a bag that i couldn't carry in the rain. that's probably why I only have like 4 bags that I use regularly... wait 5.

my clemence birkins do well in the rain as does my LV keepall 45 (mostly because I don't care about the vachetta. My other two bags are nylon with leather bits.

Well that stinks with all of the rain..But at least you choose the right bags that will hold up to endure all that rain.:smile1:

I TOTALLY agree with you..This is why I don't Collect bags. The other reason is my income doesn't allow it,lol..I'am quite Happy with my well choosen few Coach bags.:pI also don't like deciding what bag I'm going to carry either.

I agree once again!!What good is a bag if we can't carry them in all climates? I know alot of ladie's spend a small fortune on their Gorgeous bags, but have to be weary of when to carry them.I don't want a High Maintence bag..Like i mentioned, coach pre-treats their bags to be water and stain resistaint..So I'll just go with the flow. They also sell a leather cleaner and moisturizer.

In the end, I take good care of my belongings and just wanted some feedback..Thank's so much!!!My mind has been set at ease!!!:smile1:

I try not to carry my leather bags in the rain, but sometimes I carry my black Coach leather tote if I have to carry many things. Since it's black and wasn't too expensive (from the outlets) I don't feel as bad about getting it a little wet. I have a light blue MBMJ bag that I brought out before and when it started raining the back got a little stained from my leather jacket + jeans. :( So now I avoid bringing that one out even when there's the slightest hint of cloudy weather!

In your case, since you've treated it with repellent I guess it would be fine, though I really suggest not wearing dark denim and/or leather jacket like I did (especially in the rain), just in case your bag gets stained!

Lovely bag, btw, I really love the whole Kristin leather bag line! :)

Thank You :) Good idea on using a bag that isn't as expensive as your others. Yeah I haven't treated it with anything..I just know that Coach does..I've actually never treated any of my siggy bags either..They were easy to get cleaned up if need be due to Coach pre-treating them :)

I agree on the Kristin Line..It is a Beautiful Line of Bags, and I have Finally found my Leather bag.I'm so happy that coach made the different sized bags with the new outside pocket and as usual the hardware is so pretty. I just wanted a Mid-Sized bag, not too big and not too small.:p
