Do people ask you if your bag is real??

Jade,
If sales people ignore you, I would complain to someone (being a pushy Italian girl helps). I can see if they are busy and you have to wait, but to ignore you is stupid. As for Asians, I think the opposite here in Philly. You see them in Hermes and NM and I think they have some big bucks.
When I went to California on vacation, I saw a lot of Asians shopping on Rodeo. They even had brochures in Japanese to help them out.
Most Asian people I know are hard workers and good at business, academics, etc. Hang in there!!

Asian people do sell many fakes back in the rice land. Now a days asian girls wear mostly real thing though. We're high maintenace lol If i offended anyone I'm sorry. I didnt mean to make it to be offending. =)

I remember reading an article about how the luxury in market is booming like crazy. I know that Japan has been the largest LV consuming market in the recent years. I'm from Hong Kong so I know what it's like in Asia. There are a lot more people who are willing to spend money on bags. In Hong Kong alone there are 6 LV stores and there are less than 7 million people. There is a lot of demand for LV in Asia, I mean there will always be fakes around but then I think it's just a really bad generalization that Asians carry fakes, especially after knowing the facts.

WOW REALLY? I have never heard this stereotype about Asians. That makes me sad.

Japan is the largest market for luxury goods... and almost everyone I personally know from Shanghai and Hong Kong who are in America are very wealthy. If anything, I'd assume an Asian woman carrying a bag carries a real one!

heh

I'm a guy and I always get asked if my LV Monogram wallet is real. Same goes with my Burberry scarf, and all of my designer clothes. My good friends know its all real though. My fiancee bought me the wallet and scarf for Christmas one year :)

On the fliphand side i would be too embarrased asking that question to someone.

I was at a b-day dinner a couple of weeks back and there was this girl there with a "Spy" bag. Now I'm no expert but I could tell it was a fake. She was sowing it off to everyone talking about the great deal she got from an out of town friend. Fake fake and I knew it. But I would never be so tacky to ask someone if there bag was real. Who cares anyway.

As long as I'm carrying the real deal then I'm all good :D

SuzyZ, that's incredibly rude from your sister, particularly if she knows your taste.

No one's ever asked me if my bags were real or not but I'd give them the death stare from hell if they did and say that it is real.

I don't have any designer bags (yet) but I think if someone asked me if my bag was real, it wouldnt be a negative thing but a positive thing. I guess you would rather they would be able to tell but at least you can respond and say "yes it is" and watch them go green with envy! lol

A forum member on an earlier thread mentioned that many fake bag carriers weren't even Asian:

The thread was pretty informative and shows that "fake-bag-carrying" is not race-specific or race-based.

Everytime I've been to the LV boutiques, I've noticed that alot of the customers were Asian. Thus, this negative stereotype that you've mentioned would be unfair to the many Asians who do buy authentic LV.

Moral of the story (and I'm certainly not being preachy): If someone makes an ignorant remark, educate them.

you are 100% right!
whenever i go into designer handbags stores i see asian women with the LATEST style bags on their shoulders asking about styles that didnt even hit the stores yet! .... :)

I've been asked before.
Conversation usually goes like this:
Them: "Nice bag! Where did you get it"
Me: "Louis Vuitton"
Them: "So, your bag is real then?"
Me: "Is that a trick question?"

I'm both young (18) and Asian, but I don't think anyone has ever asked me that! I have noticed that SAs tend to compliment my bags more than anyone else though. I think my reply would just be a simple "yes." I have been asked how much my bags are before, which makes me a bit uncomfortable because I feel like they're criticizing me.

I'm sure that quite a few LV owners would agree with you here that it's awkward being asked by total strangers how much your bags cost. Personally, I think it's a rude question to be asked by total strangers. In my opinion, it's the equivalent of being asked "how much money do you make?" If strangers wanted to ask such a question (about the bag), they should phrase it like this: "if you don't mind me asking, did that cost 'a decent amount'?" And then they should leave it as that. You see the difference between the style of the 2 questions?
