Do people ask you if your bag is real??

I meant no one out of my friends or relatives, they know better.

If strangers on the street ask, I usually says its fake, even though its not, because its NY and I am scared of being robbed. If they ask me where I got the fake, i say i got it as a gift.

i've been asked before. roommate of a friend of mine always asks every time she sees me with a different bag. she's kind of weird, though.

Sure, but it doesn't really matter. I understand that a lot of people draw a negative stereotype when they see Asian people and handbags so I just take it in stride.

I know what you mean!

Some of my guy friends ask because they can't tell fakes apart from real ones, hahaha.

Asian people do sell many fakes back in the rice land. Now a days asian girls wear mostly real thing though. We're high maintenace lol If i offended anyone I'm sorry. I didnt mean to make it to be offending. =)

Back to the thread. No one ever asked me if mine was real, but I really hate it when I walk in a store and they won't help me. I hate the DIOR store here. They give you this look like you u can't afford to buy anything there. OMG pisses me off!!!!! I only go to saks to buy my Dior now. I got ignored there at frist, but my SA was really nice. She was the only one that actually helped me. I only ask for her when I buy things. I guess I look like im still in high school so they won't help me. Now they all know me... the people that ignored me are so nice now.

No, no one has ever asked me if my bag was real. No one has ever pointed at my bag and then burst into a giggling fit. I haven't yet heard the word "fake" whispered or hollered my way.
I guess I must look really high society. ;)

Kat, I like that response! My family (parents, siblings) will ask me, "Oh, is that another NEW bag?". It bugs me and I know they think I'm materialistic but I can't help it. Bags are my hobby.
Try using the same response I use next time. It works like a charm. ;)

My family and relatives know I have a thing for bags and they've seen them all, so they all know my bags are authentic. I just get a little hesitant telling them how much because I don't want to give the wrong impression. I just really like bags and unfortunately no one I know understands except my mother ( who keeps asking for the bags I don't like).

I think the only ones who think that it's fake are usually the younger girls who carry the fakes. I think they just assume that everyone must be carrying fake bags because they do.

I think it's a tacky question but I don't think people ask to be rude. They're probably just curious. Kinda like the same way strangers (in Europe, too!) constantly ask me if I'm Chinese or Japanese.

I don't get asked when I carry a Chanel bag, but I did get asked carrying LV.

I have never had that happen. I wouldn't read too much into it either. Asking if it's real is better than asking if it's fake. They may not know any better and simply want to know vice passing judgement. It probably wouldn't bother me if someone really close to me asked, but if it was a distant relative, I'd probably find it rude too.

I work with a bunch of guy engineers, for the most part, they know nothing about handbags and it's so funny to hear them talk. The topic of wives' buying purses came up and I started laughing when one of them went "You know, some of those purses can cost all the way up to $300! Can you believe that?!?"

I had one nosy person ask me that once. I think that says more about the person asking the question than the person with the handbag in question.
This lady is well known as the official "gossip" at my workplace. Also, there might be a bit of envy in that question. I know this lady's husband and he is about as tight and controlling as they get. I'm guessing he would have a fit if she bought anything like a designer bag.
I am lucky my husband has a thing for musical equipment. I can counter with, well, how much did that guitar cabinet cost?
