Thank you so much for your advice , the SA said it could be altered by the boutique’s tailor, but they cannot guarantee that it will look exactly as the original design because the Bar jacket is very difficult to make apparently :(

I tried on the trench and it’s absolutely stunning. But I wanted to think about it first and put the question here about the Bar Jacket, just to make sure if it makes sense to forget about it.

All the 30 Montaigne pieces run small, especially in the bust area. Talk to the boutique’s alterations person. The ones in Milan and my home store in the US have been able to take out the area near the bust on multiple items to fit me and doesn’t look any different.

I love the bar jacket. It’s a classic that I can pair with so much. I have two and plan to buy an additional color/pattern soon.

I can understand your dilemma! Shoulders in jackets are notoriously difficult to alter, so I understand their cautiousness. I would probably separate the decision about the trench and think about it more like you said...you want to make sure you're buying the trench because you love it l, and not because you think it'll replace the bar jacket desire in your heart since they're totally different pieces!

You’re right, I will go again and try to talk to the alterations person - she will probably explain better what she can oe cannot do to the jacket. Thank you so much for your advice, really appreciate it!

Thank you so much for your response! Yes you’re absolutely right, I was decided to buy the jacket, and I didn’t expect that no size would suit me perfectly… something that we need when we are about to pay 3600 euros for a piece of clothing
That’s why I hesitate so much about making alterations… the piece should fit perfectly for that price, so it’s just not the right design for my body and I should forget about it, sadly. There was also the knitted version, but I felt it looked cheap somehow. Not so elegant as the classic wool - silk one.

I will think about the trench coat. I love trench coats and I only have one (a Burberry Kensington), so it might be the classic forever piece I was looking for as a 40 birthday present to myself (forgot to mention that is the reason for me to buy my first Dior RTW piece! :P).

Hello ladies, first time posting in this thread! I need your advice. After many years dreaming with the Bar jacket, I was finally decided to buy it. My local boutique never had my size in stock, but it happened to have one available this time so everything looked like a dream. But I went yesterday and tried it on… and I found out that I couldn’t close it …!
The SA was very kind and told me that one should be able to close it. I tried a size up, it closed tight but the shoulders were just off.

I wonder if it’s OK to have the Bar jacket and not be able to close it, or if I should pass and admit that the Bar is not for my body shape (I’m petite, not big breasts but yep, a 90C so bigger than what Monsieur Dior designed for unfortunately…). What should I do?

When at the boutique, I also tried the classic trench, and oh what a beauty! Same price as the Bar jacket. A forever piece as well… and this one I can close it.

Now I wonder if I should take the Bar jacket anyway and wear it open, or if I should pass and take the trench instead. I would love to have a staple piece that I can wear and enjoy for many years to come.
Thanks in advance for your help! :flowers:
I recently bought a bar jacket after years of thinking I would never find one in my size. But it needed a lot of adjustment before it fit perfectly. Back area between the shoulder blades had to be let out, shoulders raised slightly, sleeves shortened, armhole dropped. There were a few other minor adjustments but those were the major ones. It took over a month and 2 fittings but they did it and the jacket now fits perfectly. It still retains the classic bar jacket shape. You should definitely be able to close the jacket. They should be able to adjust the shoulders on the larger size. Dior RTW has ample seams so the other possibility is they may have enough in the seams to expand the waist of the size that already fits your shoulders so that you can close it. Have a chat with the tailor and your SA and see what they think can be done to fit the jacket to you. I hope it works out for you.

So I went into the boutique looking for the marinière dress but was super disappointed that it didn’t really fit. However I surprisingly found the new arrivals in the new spring colors ‘rose des vents’. Do we like the new color? I think I found my new neutral. Also, I think I could have sized down in the jacket but I like my coats to be a bit roomier.

The boots fit around my calves (finally!) and are super comfortable.

Thank you for letting me share and much thanks to all the inspiratiomal TPFers here who have offered invaluable advice and insight over the years especially @periogirl28 (ps I didn’t make it to Harrods this year. This boutique was as close as I got! Still very happy with the quality and exceptional service here. Love my new SA. She even offered consignment services given my distance from the boutique. Luxury indeed!) and @880 (your opinions are enlightening and always given with utmost taste. Thank you. )

This is super helpful, thank you SO much for sharing! It must be a next level experience to have a Bar jacket that looks like if it had been specifically made for your body, I’m so happy for you and si glad to hear that Dior is offering that type of service .
I plan to visit the boutique again this afternoon and try to speak with the tailor. I’ll also try the knitted version again, in a size up (I think my feelings about it might change). Let’s see what the visit brings, I’ll keep you posted!

You look stunning in that jacket, I think the size is just perfect! I also prefer my coats to be a bit roomy. Confort is everything.
The boots are amazing as well . Enjoy your new items in good health!

Thank you @missfaraday and good luck with tailoring today! Sounds like we are both delving into the world of Dior rtw for the first time at the same time. So fun! I will say that I had to size up pretty much across the board as the cut tends to be very fitted especially around the bust area for me. The marinière dress I tried on had absolutely no extra seems so it could not be let out at all. Please keep us posted on what happens with the bar jacket. It is such a classic look that I hope they can preserve the silhouette while making it fit comfortably.

1. Cropped jacket in navy. The silk, twill and wool blend give the jacket a beautiful glisten.(Leather navy shorts are from Hermes SS 23')

2. Diorodeo hat

3. 'Dior Symbol' tall boots (hard to tell in photo). I sizes up on these. They are so comfortable I wore them nearly everyday of my trip after purchasing.

Hello ladies, sharing an update about my Bar story . Went back to the boutique, and asked if I could try the knitted version in a size up (I’m usually a 38, and there was one 40 available). The SA said it would be too big, but I insisted, and it happened to be perfect. Not so tight in the chest area, much more comfortablefor my arms as well, while keeping the fitted structured design of the Bar. So I happily brought it home! Along with the 30 Montaigne suit trousers, that I found extremely flattering and comfortable.
Here are my two first Dior RTW pieces - the trousers already have small wrinkles, as I wore them to work yesterday. Couldn’t wait, that’s a good sign! Huge thanks all for your lovely and insightful messages, you’re the best :hbeat:
