I'm looking up chubb agents now, and does this make a difference:

"The Cornerstone Agent logo indicates that this agent has earned the Chubb Personal Insurance Elite Agency Designation."

There's one a little over a half hour away that has that logo, but there's one only about 10 minutes from me that doesn't have that logo.

I will be getting it tomorrow!!!
YAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea. I don't think mine has that "designation". I have no idea! I get the feeling that those either do mostly personal insurance (rings etc) or that they have a LOT of customers signed up for it, like a sales award.

Id call both. It's going to be harder to find one to just take on the jewelry insurance so call all you can. :)

The logo just means they do a bigger volume. In my experience, the ones without the logo didn't want to waste their time with me and my one policy. However, the cornerstone one said fine and issued it. But like ame said, try them all!!!

Can't wait to see your ring!! Can't believe it's been so long since u started the process!

The first person that I was actually able to talk to said that Chubb doesn't allow them to make a standalone policy for just a ring. Is this the standard run-around you ladies came across also? Maybe she was just misinformed, or maybe I need to talk to the agent directly - this was the lady that answered the phone because the agent listed was unavailable.

Yep this is the standard runaround. It's going to be hard to find but hopefully one of them will. Chubb isn't the problem: the agency wants all of your business, and many won't do it if you won't put your cars and or home too.

Ah, ok, figured. No, don't have it yet. Should come today (but no one is home, so I"ll have to figure that out haha). I just wanted to look into it before I got it so I knew where I'd be going once I actually got it. Thanks for the quick response!

Ok update. An agent called me back and said Chubb doesn't do that but Travellers might. He said there isn't a difference at all. I mentioned that I knew a person that had Chubb had their ring as standalone, but it could be different by region or they got lucky or something. Then he went on to say that "take it with a grain of salt, many people don't even know what they have". His words, not mine. Sounded like a typical salesman. I know you ladies know what you have, I think he was just trying to lure me into something else. Anyway, that did create some questions for me:

Why is Chubb so much better than anyone else?

I'm still with my parents, would it be ok to be temporarily on that insurance (homeowners)?

What are your opinions of Travellers?

He said Chubb is pretty expensive, would it be worth it for me? (tied to the above 'why is chubb better' question)

He'll be calling me back in an hour or two with some more stuff, and I have a feeling he's just going to quote me a standalone for travellers.

What a prick. He wouldn't be getting my business.

Chubb is better because they offer a cash out policy, as well as standalone. Why that is a big deal, to me anyway, is that I can choose how and where to replace my lost item. My stone (as is yours) is a specific cut, and is not easily replaced. It's also less common in the market compared to a standard round. It's important to me, as should be to you, that it be replaced on your terms, and NOT on an insurance company's. I have had a claim with Chubb after my rings were stolen two years ago and compared to the crap my mom went through around the same time with Jeweler's Mutual deciding what was like kind, there was NO way I'd be happy with that without exhausting all other insurance options.

My sister has hers on her homeowners policy, as a separate rider with quite a bit of detail. Her rings were not "high value enough" for Chubb, but I don't think you should run into that. I hope not anyway. I do wonder though if many agencies won't do a standalone if it's not high value enough.

The price is higher for Chubb than others but that's because it's cash-out, not like kind. That's a premium that I think is well worth paying.

My parents have Travellers on their house, but even while I still lived there, I had my Chubb standalone.

What a load of crap! How you going to tell me I don't know what I have! (directed at agent of course!) I have a stand alone and I got it in the first week of April this year. And have added items to the policy without hassle. Psh. Next agent please!

I went through 3-5 agents before finding mine. My agent did say that some agents won't waste their time to insure lower value items now (lower being value under $25-30k) or chubbs will reject some under a certain ammount though I think? he described chubbs as the "Mercedes" of insurance and they do have policy minimums. I believe the renters/home owner requires at least 100k worth of items before a policy will be issued. And like ame said they charge a premium because of the cash out no hassle style. His example of when I wouldn't be able to get a check as if I were to take a picture/video of myself throwing my ring off the golden gate bridge. Haha another great thing about them is that they will insure even if not in your possession and while you are shipping. Example: you send it back to Gog for something and it gets lost. Chubbs will cover it! Less than a handful of companies do this. Be careful with riders on home owners, sometimes there are lots of exclusions and clauses. So know what you are buying.... I was lazy and rather pay more for hassle free chubbs than to go and research it through and through.

I do hear good things about Jewelers mutual though? As a second option? Or if you have other valuables? Watch? Necklaces? Your wedding band when you get it? Etc etc. You can add them to the policy with chubbs and see if an increased value will help get more cooperative agents?

That and your stone is also a smaller cross section of the diamond market and therefore a slightly harder item to replace :)

Cash out is really just a worthwhile premium, imo.

Ok update! I got the ring, got it insured, asked her dad, told my family, and couldn't wait anymore, so I asked her Saturday! She said yes! She loves the ring, but I knew she would with all your great help! Here are a couple pictures. I didn't get a good picture of just the ring yet cause I'm tired and lazy from the weekend haha.

the set up...
