I, too am new here so please no bullets. I have started my love affair with designer bags late in life. I love the coach phoebes and Maggie's and edie's as they are organized and made very well. I also have and love Michael kors 3 devided Fultons, preferably in leathers. If I paid the price of the prada's etc. my husband would have me on the shrinks couch before my head would spin. I guess the point is handbags can be beautiful but they should also be functional . I am aware that some newer coach bags are losing their quality and materials in some other bags are the same way. I would love to hear some of the good points of other bags too, this is only my observation and I respect all others that people have.what a wonderful group of people here, thanks for letting me voice my opinion.

Good post Phoebe!
Nothing wrong with buying MK or Coach bags!
The shrink part is a very good one![emoji23][emoji23]
I am not sure that a Prada bag manufacturing cost is very different from a Coach.....
When you buy a high end bag, you must know that you pay for
- high boutique rents on posh avenues
- advertising in Vogue and other fashion magazines
- top models pay
- brand margin etc...
And, last but not least...
If I buy a pair of Levi's let's say for €80, the shop gets 40!
If I buy a high end item for € 2000, the boutique gets ..... €1300.

Knowing about all that, you can calculate the real cost of luxury goods!
Then it's up to you to buy or not buy.....[emoji6][emoji6]

Girl! Thank you for the run down on the cost. Lots of people don't think about. They just think of the margin of cost of producing the bags and the selling price.

I never say never regarding purses, however I can never see myself with any sort of designer wallet. I'm weird like that. So if you see someone with a nice bag rifle through a pile of loose credit cards... It might be me.

As Kikir said, it's tough to say *never* but I most definitely do not want a Mansur Gavriel bag. First off I like soft leather and second their exclusivity game is so tiring and turns me off. It's obviously a game at this point since it keeps selling out online but is easy to buy at the department stores who're not playing their games.

I used to think there were brands I'd never buy, but turns out if something is cheap enough I'll buy it lol.

On the other hand, there is NO brand I'd pay full price for, and there are brands I wouldn't go out of my way to search for. Mansur Gavriel, Goyard, LV aren't carried at Nordstrom Rack, which means I'll probably never own them unless I get lucky thrifting (and I don't thrift a ton).

Chanel and Hermes are the only brands that I'll seek out second hand on ebay/Poshmark/Yoogi's, etc. Otherwise I just wait to see what I'm lucky enough to find at sample sales, the Rack, Century 21, etc.

But the truth is if it's a luxury brand and I find it for cheap, I'm gonna buy it (and if someone gifts it to me, I'LL TAKE IT.) Lol. I've never spent money on a Michael Kors bag, but my cousin bought me one for Christmas one year, and I think it's a lovely bag. I did remove the MK charm tho, haha.

Well I'm at the point where the only brand I WILL buy is LV & Gucci. I was buying LV, Chanel, & Gucci exclusively but have decided to walk away from Chanel once and for all. I have a nice Chanel collection that I love and I don't think the newer Chanel is worth the price anymore.

So only LV & Gucci for me.

The problem is that to sustain this high fees, costs, etc - they usually lower the quality of materials. I would pay a premium price for a real premium leather bag...

No Michael Kors
No Coach
No Balenciaga (I've tried. And they're heavy to me)
Any bag with chains (I can't stand the added weight no matter how cute the bag is)

Bag I used to detest: Longchamp
Now I love Longchamp. They're lightweight, practical, and some of the leathers are like butter & light weight (do you see a weight theme here?)

Favs: LV , (some)Tory Burch, Longchamp, Prada

I don't think I'll ever buy Michael Kors just because it bothers me that they copy a lot of their designs.

And I can't see myself buying too many expensive midrange bags such as Rebecca Minkoff or Tory Burch or Rag & Bone--I've liked some of the designs, but generally I feel that if I'm about to spend that much on a bag, I might as well go totally luxe and get a premium designer.

But I like what I like, and I have a huge range of prices in my closet, so yeah, never say never.
