Designer Brands You Will Never Buy

as a guy who might buy a bag for family...

Michael Kors. Not a fan of the initials and logo everywhere. Copies others.
Goyard. At least in terms of St. Louis. Bad quality, might as well get Neverfull.
Gucci. No canvas bags from here.

As a recent buyer of the MK bags, I was/am surprised to read that a lot of people don't like this brand. I, for one, am impressed with the quality of the MK bags I purchased. I found the leather to be nice, soft and supple (not a fan of the saffiano though). I own other brands too (Prada, Jimmy Choo, TODs, Coach, etc) but for the price, I'm happy with my MK bags. I can use (and abuse) them without worrying too much because they didn't cost a small fortune to buy! And of all my bags, the MK has gotten the most compliments. I will agree that I really dislike the MK monogram bags (that goes for LV too). I guess it's to each his own :smile1:

MK gets a lot of hate on here, I like MK too and I personally like the monogram bags as well as the leather ones. As far as the hanging MK charm that is on some of the bags, it does come off and not all his bags have it. People like to throw around the statement he copies others all the time, designers copy each other, it's not exclusive to MK. His bags are of good quality too, of course if one is rough on their bags they won't stay nice, I've seen some pretty beat up LV's too.

Another MK fan here !! Their bags have good qualities and reasonable prices.. I agree not only MK copies. There are a lot of designers doing the same thing.. Some people don't like to have the same bag as others so they don't buy MK bags. That doesn't bother me. Actually if I really love a bag, I hope every one can get it ... ^_^

I dońt think the ladies here hate MK. They just said they wouldńt buy one of his bags, like some of them said they wouldl never purchase a Hermès or a Prada or....
Fortunately! Imagine a world in which everyone would love the same things. It would be unbearable!

Actually I did read in an earlier post that someone called an MK bag "hideous". That's a bit strong. But we get the point, you don't like the brand. Not everyone is going to like every designer but he's selling a lot of bags for a reason. I'm just glad we have so many choices :smile1:

People are pretty harsh on here when it comes to MK, not everyone, but quite a few, I think more than they are on other brands, but I know people have commented on other brands as well. It's ok though, I like the bags and that is all that matters to me! Yep, you are right, it's good we all have different tastes and likes.

I think it's rude to be so harsh about something you know other people like. I have commented on a few brands saying I don't care for them or I think they are a little too rich for my blood, but I would never use the words hideous, ugly, low class, it's just not right. I think people like to get people riled up so they make those comments but at the end of the day we like what we like and no one really cares what others think! You are right tons of people love his bags, so they can't be all that bad!

I actually quite like Michael Kors handbags. I will say there are aspects of his line I choose not to partake in such as the logo bags (just not my thing) and I am also not a big fan of the MK medallion (I remove them from my bags).

I should also note that I am not someone that can afford very luxurious handbag brands like Prada; however, I quite enjoy the style of bags they create (e.g., double zip tote). I don't think that I should be limited in finding a nice quality handbag in that style simply because Prada has decided they would like to create a bag in that style. I am more interested in the style of the bag (i.e., two handles, shoulder straps, double zips for security, tote style, and saffiano leather) than the name of the designer. When you boil a bag down to it's basic features, it seems it would be impossible for anyone to make a truly unique tote bag... Maybe that is just me.

My other concern is simply the price. The Prada tote runs about $2,200. For me, that equates as the following:

1. 3 months of rent OR...
2. 7 car payments OR...
3. 4.5 months of groceries OR...
4. 44 tanks of gas OR
5. roughly 7-8 Michael Kors Sutton Satchels (nearly identical in style)

With that being said, I can understand those that are critical of MK designs; however, I find myself to be appreciative to be able to find a bag similar to the Prada bag I quite enjoy (obviously through pictures only) in a price range that is reasonable for my lifestyle.

Yes, exactly this! I didn't mean to offend any MK fans... I used to be a fan myself, and I just think the brand's aesthetic has changed. Which is fine. I mean, Mr. Kors is obviously doing something right, because so many people love his products.

I hope I didn't offend any Hermes fans either, but I doubt they would care what I think. And after some further though, I definitely wouldn't say no to a Kelly. :graucho:

It's not offensive to say you don't like a certain designer or a bag but it is offensive to say that bags or more so the people that carry them are tacky, trashy and so forth and there have been quite a few people on this forum who have indicated that about MK and Coach. We MK and Coach fans see it a lot in TPF and people have mentioned about it in other threads. It's ok, to each their own! Anyway, your previous comments were not offensive! 😊

The price is very important, Minkette, I totally agree.
And I know a of ladies who will never spend more than 100 euros on a bag.
MK or Coach would be expensive for them for the reasons you give.
They prefer to buy a Longchamp Le Pliage or a non brand bag and I understand them perfecly.
