cz versus the real deal...

1st off I would never ever ask anyone if their diamond/CZ was real.

I have also never been asked - my center stone is 1.35 - so it's not a gigantic rock or anything. It is real - which makes me personally happy.
I agree. I only have a 1 carat ring and Im completely happy with it. And so far Ive never been asked if my pieces are real or not. And Ive never encountered anybody who would ask another person that same question. I guess CZs arent very popular where I live here in Asia but thats as far as I know, at least among the people I know. I live in a third world country and obviously, majority cant afford the real deal. Ive got close friends and friends of friends who dont even have diamonds at all but I never heard them say they wanted to get a CZ or have never seen them with a CZ. Theyre fine with simple gold instead.

This was an interesting thread.

Personally, I have no problem with whatever makes a person happy.

I do not think a person who choses a CZ is neccessarily trying to fool anyone. A CZ is not a knock off or fake. My favorite earrings are my chanel CZ cc's...even over my diamond studs. Should I like them less because they CZs? Who cares, honestly there are far more important things to worry about.

I can't imagine someone asking if your ring or any piece was 'real', how incredible rude that would be. As far as 'fessing up' if someone compliments you on your CZ, that is completly unneccessary. Any compliments given should be handled the same way as a compliment on you bag, clothes or hairstyle...a simple, graceful, "thank you" is all that is required.

tink! this couldnt of been said any better! I agree %100!!!!

well said!!! everything is definatly not as it appears.

for me personally....my boyfriend and i have looked at rings and i pickes a ring thats platinum with small diamonds around the band and then the center stone is a CZ...for us personally we would rather use money for a down payment on a house or bills or all of the above instead of spending 10,000 dollars and up on a diamond.

everyone is different....we all spend money on something!

I am in the same situation. I have a Tacori engagement ring with real side diamonds and a 1 ct. CZ center. I think it looks fine and after he finishes his residency he's buying me a real 2ct. diamond. So, for now the CZ is okay since the diamond doesn't mean everyting. I'll get my real bling later on!

right on sister!!! if your happy it shouldnt matter whether its CZ or a real diamond.

and like tink said anyone who asks if your diamond is "real" or not is rude. it shouldnt matter to anyone.

the only thing that matters is that you are happy with your ring!!

A coworker and I were discussing engagement rings (we work in the jewelery biz), and she made an interesting statement. She said she'd rather receive a 3 carat flawless looking cz than a .25 carat authentic diamond. I'd prefer a real diamond. Even if no one knew but me, it'd bother me to have a cz. If the guy can't afford a large diamond at the outset, there's always the opportunity to upgrade later. Just wondering everyone's opinion as it relates to engagement rings. I personally don't like cz ever.

No kidding, I agree with you..why try to show off something fake just to seem like you have a 3ct... as with anything like jewelry and handbags, I'd rather have the real thing.. Fakes are never in fashion is the golden rule.. But that's just me..I know I wouldn't be happy knowing I have a fake diamond that simulates a real one..I'd rather have a small diamond, atleast I know it's real..and you can also upgrade that later on..specially since it symbolizes my honey's love and honor for me..even he wouldn't allow such a thing...but that's just me..people are different I know.

The issue here is CZ vs diamonds. Not life's standards. Stick to the issue. And lets face it, and I shall repeat it, CZs are simulants, replicas. Diamonds are the real deal. So we should stick to the issue of czs vs. diamonds ok? I live my life the way I want it and not by standards based on the fakes and authentics of the world. I am not a fan of fakes but I dont lose sleep over it. Do you understand? This is a forum based on certain issues and it has a pretty materialistic theme just in case you forgot. AGAIN, nothing personal. Lets not get touchy. This is a jewelry forum and we talk about jewelry. We are allowed to voice our own opinions and not to question ones own standard of living!
I second that:tup:

Personally I can't do cz. I received a very pretty sapphire ring which was sourrounded by cz and I just coudn't wear it, call me stupid but it still sits in my jewellry box more than 15 years later I cherish the person who bought it but just not the ring.

great thread!!! like smooches, i have a platinum ring w/ real side stones, but it still has the original cz. i decided that it was more important to continue my education, than to get a diamond. i'm waiting till we can afford the diamond i truly want. that said, i would much rather sport a cz than a poor quality diamond. people should be able to wear what they want, rather than worring about what other people think of them. it's a personal choice.

You shouldn't assume that any one is trying 'show off' with a CZ...perhaps they just like the look.

Are you trying to show off with your designer bag? I would guess probably not...you probably choose your items because you like them, not because of what other people think. Don't you hate when people judge you based on 'things'....people who choose CZs over diamonds don't deserve to be judged either...there is a big difference between CZs and fake bags.

My pleasure.

By the way my sister only uses CZs for her rings. She lost her wedding set about 4 months after she got married. She decided to replace it with a CZ until they could afford to replace it...she ended up getting so many compliments on it and loving it so much, she decided to keep it. Since then she has changed styles a couple of times on a whim. Now she has lovely rings, earrings, etc.

So for her, I know it is not about impressing people. It just fits her lifestyle and taste a lot more.

I can certainly understand someone using a CZ as a "placeholder" for a diamond engagement ring. Some designers do use CZ's in their jewelry. I, personally, would not choose to use CZ in my wedding rings. What is puzzling, to me, is that some posters say they would choose a CZ instead of a diamond, because they like it better. I don't really understand that. CZ's are diamond simulants. I didn't make that up, it's just the way they are classified. I'm not sure why that upsets people. There are simulated sapphires and emeralds, too. You can find excellent gems, at a reasonable cost, with some guidance and education.

true... few things worse than a cruddy diamond solitaire. I'd rather do without & get a dainty diamond eternity or plain metal or if *had* to have bling, get a modest-sized cz/sim(under 3cts dia equiv.).
