I have the 05 RT Le Compagnon that I use as my travel wallet.
It fits my passport, boarding passes, all the cards and foreign currency I need to put into it, along with my itinerary. And it's slim and compact for a travel wallet:yes:

I'm not sure if I'd be of any help, because I like using a small billfold for my wallet. But I think it's safe to say that the Le Compagnon is fairly large...probably too large to use on a daily basis.

The leather? The BEST out of all the RTs I own...the softest, smooshiest leather ever, and it's super fluffy.

1) Is is thick/bulky?
No, its not too thick or bulky.

2) Is it functional or more-so for looks?
Hmmn, I very often feel my Compagnon is too big, and I would be better off with a coin purse sized wallet.

3) How does the leather compare to the Bal bags?
Leather is very very nice and smooth, shiny too.

So to sum up, I personally think the compagnon is too big for me, (I don't travel much, just to and from work every day) and I probably would be better off with the mini compagnon.

fashion-cult, I think you'll love the wallet! I know black might be "boring", but it's so classic too. Love mine!! We can be wallet-twins. :graucho:

The naming of the wallets is very confusing- because I've seen other places refer to both wallets as le compagnon as well. So who knows! All I know for sure is that the flap is also referred to as the money.

It sounds like you are describing what they call a Real Coin, rather than the Compagnon. I did a little amount of research on these wallets until I decided to get a Money Wallet for my sweeties birthday.

Here's a little info:

As you can see the "Real Coin" which is a credit card holding wallet with a change section is closer to what you might be looking for. Here's a picture of the "Real Coin":

I know that Aloha Rag has some of these and the truffle looks very nice :smile1:

Here's a description of the Real Coin:

For the Real Coin, the front flap has a snap button that opens up to a billfold. Holding the wallet so the bill slot is horizontal and at the top, there is a small mirror on the right side and on the left side, there are three vertical credit card slots and one deeper slot at the back. The zipper opens up the coin compartment which has a separator so you have two pockets for coins.

Be careful because I believe that The Money and Le Compagnon are different. See the dimensions in my last post. Almost everyone refers to the one you want as The Money. Le Compagnon is longer than the Money and has all the credit cards slots on one side, more like a travel wallet. I got my fiance a Juane Money and she loves it.

Jim it's the Money that I am after, but diabro.net (where I want to puchase mine from) refers to this style as the Le Compagnon and the larger wallet with a zip they refer to as the Le Compagnon (zip)

I think Aloha Rag also calls them something else too.

Riding on the thread, I would like to see pictures of the insides of the wallets especially the smaller wallets. I have seen random ones in some multiples threads but is there a thread where all are pictured? TIA!

I never thought I would start on accessories but it's bad news now that I want a small item.

I agree with PINK I'd really like to see the insides of the wallets so I can see what they all look like and which one I'd like to get, especially since the MONEY and the ZIPPY wallets look so similar on the inside.

AR calls it the money. I just got a vert foret GGH hardware money from AR and it's gorgeous. So soft and beautiful and so roomy as well. :love:

I'd love to see pics of the inside of the wallets too - I meant to do that when I was in NY on biz last week, and totally forgot to look at BalNY -got too wrapped up in trying on all the bags!!
