College students: what's in your collection?

I'm a second year law student.

My collection off the top of my head includes :-
9 Marc Jacobs Stams (I could carry this and nothing else.)
2 Celine Phantoms
1 Celine Horizontal Cabas
1 MBMJ Ukita (My first luxury bag!)
2 Tiffany & Co suede totes
2 Miu Miu Matelasse Bags
2 Furlas
2 Chloe Paddingtons
Prada Wallet
Burberry Wallet
Hermes Scarf
Burberry Scarf

I work full time as a paralegal and model part time. I seldom get my bags full retail price. Consignments, Ebay, Local buy and sell forums help me out.

I am trying to buy less bags and get some good use out of the ones I own currently so I can appreciate them more. I believe bags are meant to be used!

I work hard and pay for everything myself (:

Hi!!! I'm new here so here it goes! (In order of newest to oldest)

YSL Monogramme Matelasse Shopper Bag in pale blush (boyfriend, anniversary)
Louis Vuitton Noe BB in Fuschia Epi (myself)
Mansur Gavriel Bucket Bag in black with flamma interiors (myself)
Chanel Quilted Classic Flap Bag in black (parents, graduation)
Celine Tie Tote in blue (grandparents)
Chanel Reissue Flap Bag in white (parents, birthday)
Louis Vuitton Brea MM in Rose Angelique (myself)
Louis Vuitton Pallas in Litchi (myself)
Mansur Gavriel Bucket Bag in brady with avian interior (myself)
Alexander McQueen Studded Padlock Bucket Bag in white (split between myself & parents)
Louis Vuitton Neverful MM in Damier Azur (myself)
Prada Saffiano Medium Executive Tote Bag in black (myself)
Michael Kors Large Selma in white with black wings (myself)
Michael Kors Large Selma in raspberry with white wings (myself)
Michael Kors Large Center Stripe Sutton in Rapsberry (myself)
Michael Kors Jetset Tote in black (myself)
Tory Burch Chain Wallet in black (myself)
Tory Burch Adjustable Shoulder Bag in brown (boyfriend)

So yes, my parents did buy me a good amount of bags, mostly the ones over $2000. However, for a full time college student on a full ride, I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job at spoiling myself. :p:D
I also work 40 hours a week at the hospital and am a LA/NYC represented model so that helps with the obsession! I hope to add a Hermes Birkin to my collection one day, it will either be my own or a hand me down from mom!

**Also, I agree that there is NO SHAME in having someone gift you a bag. I personally am fortunate and lucky to have parents and an amazing boyfriend who can provide such things for me but would not look down on someone who does not have the same privileges. We are here on this forum because we appreciate handbags.

What do you have in your bag collection and how do you pay for it?
I bought my first designer bag about a year ago and have been addicted since then.. :sweatdrop: I'm a 21 year old full time college student and work in clothing store beside my studies. I think I'm quite fortunate, I still live at home so I don't have to pay rent or anything but my parents do not buy my things for me. My money mostly goes for clothes, food, going out, gasoline and occasional traveling. When I get my salary I put some of it on my saving account and I always wanna have a little bit saved up for just in case. I also don't want to get a student loan. But you know, when I really have saved up enough, I allow myself to splurge on a high end designer handbag.

Designer stuff I have:
-Louis Vuitton Sarah wallet in beautiful patent leather amaranthe colour and a smaller DE wallet for my mini bags.
-Louis Vuitton Alma BB in black epi leather, this is my absolute favorite!
-Louis Vuitton damier ebene speedy bandouliere 30
-Louis Vuitton monogram shawl in black
-Givenchy antigona pouch in black canvas and with a Madonna picture on it

And right now I have saved enough and am debating between small Givenchy Antigona in goatskin and silver hardware and a small Saint Laurent Sac De Jour in black pebbled leather and silver hardware. I'm going to buy one of these when I get my next salary. :graucho: Just having a hard time choosing which one.

I have officially banned myself from buying more LV, heh. Oh, and I also buy a lot of ACNE STUDIOS, Calvin Klein Jeans, Samuji, T Alexander Wang, Marimekko, Filippa K and Tiger of Sweden kind of clothes, which are really good quality and more pricier than H&M and ZARA but not as expensive than Chanel and Saint Laurent. I might not buy a lot of stuff but I'm really picky and nowadays tend to buy only good quality clothes/bags/everything. I'm a bit minimalistic whit a darker edge, so it suits my style.

Do you have a part-time job?
Yes I do. :smile1:

Do your parents help you out?
I wish!

How many bags per year do you buy and when did you start collecting?
Well it seems like I'm buying 1-2 bags per year, started last year and don't think it is going to end anytime soon.

Do you plan on getting a job post-grad that will help finance your addiction?
Well I do have big plans, but only time will show me how it goes.. ;) But I am a hard worker and I believe it will pay off one day.

I wouldn't say we're rich at home, but I'm definitely blessed with my parents. I got my first Prada from my parents on my 17th (black, deerskin, pebbled, gorgeous) and saved up to buy a Speedy 30 (Damier) for my 18th. It just kinda started growing from there.

what do you have in your bag collection and how do you pay for it?
So I've got the bags above, a small MK cross body, 2 RM mini MAC, LV Spontini, Mulberry Postman lock backpack (men's), Mansur Gavriel Large Leather Tote, a small Armani handbag. I've paid for most of them myself, through saving up pocket money/salary and some of them were gifted by my parents. My parents paid half for my Mulberry.

Do you have a part-time job?
Right now, no. But yes, I've been working in my parents restaurant since I was about 12.

Do your parents help you out?
Sometimes, but not always. Tbh, my parents don't really know how many bags I own and how much their retail value is, unless they've actually bought it or if it's a 'traditional' designer brand. They're not too up-to-date. (Which is probably for the best).

How many bags per year do you buy and when did you start collecting?
I started when I was 17 and I wouldn't say I give myself a limit or a minimum. It just depends on whether i find a bag I really like and could actually afford at that time, without being in debt/red. Also, promotions and sales help a lot.

Do you plan on getting a job post-grad that will help finance your addiction?
Yes, I'll have too. I know I'm really greedy and materialistic and there's nothing I can do about it. Currently doing a postgraduate degree (MA) and hopefully that'll bring me closer to the job I want, to the salary I need to fuel my collection (addiction).

I am a recent graduate that just finished a double degree in law and commerce. Worked throughout my degree. My parents aren't wealthy but we are doing okay. They pay for my fees, living expenses and I stay in a house they own without having to pay rent. In return, I help them to take care of the place and rent out the rest of the house to students.

I started my collection in my second year of uni, paying them off by waiting tables, tutoring and occasionally selling macarons at the local market. I am a homebody and don't go out often, rarely travel and my only obsessions are bags and makeup. My parents don't fund my purchases and had only bought me one designer bag (a Gucci cross body bag from an outlet in Europe when they were traveling). My boyfriend does not buy me any bags either, he said he is morally opposed to it.

Currently I have these bags in my collection:
  • Chanel vintage full flap in black lambskin ghw
  • Chanel vintage jumbo in white canvas printed monogram
  • Chanel vintage quilted tassels bag in pink lambskin ghw
  • Fendi mini peekaboo in python
  • Celine medium phantom in drummed leather taupe
  • LV alma bb in vernis indian rose
  • Gucci soho disco bag in red
  • Gucci cross body bag in monogram canvas
  • Prada tessuto gaufre shopping tote in fumo
  • Mulberry alexa in pink
  • RM mini moto bag
  • RM MAB in black stingray
  • RM MAC in white laser cut

I rarely ever purchase a bag full price. I look out for sales, discount codes, cash rebates, and actively search second-hand market for the bags that I like.

Great thread :) I'm in college and I own bags from Michael Kors, Kate Spade, and Rebecca Minkoff. I'd love to own premier designer bags someday but right now I need to concentrate on saving for driving lessons and further education :D

I am a full time student working 4 jobs as a sales clerk, after school program teacher, high school tutor and university tutor. Luckily, my parents pay my tuition so I spend my hard earned money on clothes and bags (but I also save money too!). Currently in my collection, I own a LV Emilie Wallet, LV speedy 30 B, Gucci mini swing tote, Gucci watch and Burberry cashmere scarf. I own multiple items from Kate Spade and MBMJ as well. I am saving up for a tote bag at the moment but I don't know which one to get yet. I am considering Saint Laurent or another LV.

I plan on getting at least one new bag a year all from my own money. My family cannot afford to feed my designer addictions

As for my career, I plan on becoming a school teacher in the next 3 years and then eventually a research professor in the next 8 years. Hopefully my salary will allow me to continue collecting!

I am a part time grad student now with a full time job, so I can afford to splurge every now and then. When I was in college buying designer bags wasn't even on my radar, I was vaguely aware of the fact that people spent thousands on bags but had no idea what would inspire them to do that (look at me now lol :push:). My parents paid for my tuition and board and left me to manage my own expenses. On-campus jobs as TA and lab assistant didn't pay that well and I was the very picture of a poor struggling college student living off of ramen, coffee, fast food, and fast fashion lol. It wasn't until I entered the job market that I started to pay more attention to these things.

I know the feeling. I was the same way in college but after I got my adult job, I starting purchasing designer handbags and shoes. I think it drives my husband crazy (but I am using my hard earn money to buy it all)

I'm a CS graduate student. I work as RA or TA at school, get roughly $20k per year, more or less. And sometimes I go for internship, roughly $4300 monthly. But I love saving my money. Till today, I only have one LV mini pochette. I really love bags, I go to hr to feel them weekly...

I am a journalism student.

My collection is pretty small it consists of :
- Rebecca Minkoff Mini Lexi Bucket in Biscuit
- Rebecca Minkoff Piper Tote in Black
- Cole Haan Isabella Leather Satchel in Black

***Small goods***
- MCM Heritage Card Case in Tan and Pink
- Rebecca Minkoff Zodiac Cory Pouch in Black
- Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Wallet in (Orange) Camo

I never seriously "collected" per say, but simply bought pieces I feel are necessary in my life (a tote, a satchel, a pouch, etc). I mainly fund my bags and small goods by putting in extra hours at work. I also copy edit on the side as well so that brings in extra cash. College can be expensive so I pay my debt, pay bills, put some aside for necessities then the last bit for what I want. I am pretty happy with what I have but the only thing left I want is a backpack. I am the type of person to wear my items into the ground so I can rock with just one or two bags for a long time. I don't think its necessary for me to have a large collection as long as what I own gets the job done :)

You are a smart girl! Bills first, bags second.
Staying out of debt now means more bags later.
Happy New Year
