Coffee, Vachetta, perfectly even Vachetta Patina and why Apple Garde is a must, not an option!

I want to share my experience with apple guard: Today was the day I wanted to use it. Yesterday I visited my boyfriend in hospital, as I wanted to go it rained a little-I stayed in hospital because of my Neverfull DA RB (nearly new, taken her out for just 4 times).
So I first tried it on my Dooney with Vachetta and here are the results:

A few parts are ok, but all over a lot of spots which won't go away. I'm really dissapointed and won't take the risk on my Neverfull.
These are just my experiences and I know a lot of you had great results, but I want to share this risk.

I treated my NF and Speedy with Cadillac cleaner and finally decided to take your advice as I value your comments and suggestions. I sprayed my bags and they look great. My Speedy will be a year old this summer. There was no marks left and it did not get darker.

Any suggestions on how to protect Azur bags? I want to get one but worried I have to baby it too much.

After reading this thread I couldn't resist ordering a bottle of the Apple Garde spray. Last night I sprayed my delightful that I purchased this past summer and already had a slight patina as well as my LV espadrilles. Happy to report it worked flawlessly on both!! I was nervous after hearing people say they thought it made the VVN feel waxy, but it doesn't give that feeling to me at all! I was also nervous to spray a bag that already had a patina. Very happy to report excellent results [emoji5][emoji322]

I am looking at the delightful. Do you really have to baby it? The shoes and bag look beautiful together!

I ordered the Apple Guard for my brand new mono NF. I laid newspaper over the canvas with micropore tape to hold it right up to the vachetta edge before spraying. Let it dry then turned bag over. Bit fiddly but the canvas didn't get sprayed at all this way. The Apple guard dried beautifully. I repeated it after a couple of hours. All looks good. Fingers crossed it's a bit protected now

I sprayed the Apple water repellent to my Sperone and new Delightful DA. It dried quickly, and the vachetta looked exactly the same. The other day I was caught on a rain storm, and the water drops floated on the vachetta. I just wipe them out. Amazing!

Newbie to this forum. Though I have been a devoted LV lover for over 15 years never owned Monogram pieces before. Just picked up my order while in Paris on a work trip: a Mon Monogram NF and a Keepall 45. I am not familiar at all with the Vechetta leather, SA at the store yesterday said to leave it alone but on my way back from airport it started to rain and FREAK OUT!!! literally took my jacket and scarf and wrap the NF to avoid water on it. After last night I am seriously considering a water repellent. I love the Patina look and can't wait for that dark honey color but on the other hand I DON"T want any water spots. what to do?!?!?

Use colonil nanospray or carbon spray, you never have to worry

musk_plus: do you use Colonil nanospray and Apple Guard on the same bag? I just bought Colonil to treat my Propriano (I'm a little worried about all of the vachette braid), and now I'm not sure if I should use one or the other. The Colonil says it will protect against UV so hopefully it will keep the vachette from darkening too much, as well as protect against the water.

Use one product only. My Pochette metis vachetta handle has really nice subtle patinaed after I treat with Colonil.

And please be aware that it will only slows down the process of patina, not that it will keep the vachetta forever light color. And I highly recommend Collonil 1909 lotion for conditioning too, I even use it with my lambskin.

Thank you so much for the information. I know that it won't stop patina from occurring, but if I can slow the process that is fine.

I agree that those sprays do make the leather sort of "waterproof" - putting a barrier there but they do darken brand new vachetta. If you like your virgin vachetta , wait a bit and then do the spray.
I only have used it on bags with patina and I've used different brands- they MAY darken your leather so let the buyer beware! I totally recommend to test it on a small area.

And I don't use the conditioner on new VVN as it darkens it. I only use LMB on my Virgin VVN. If anyone wants details of the process that works for me, just let me know or look under the posts I've started to see the threads :flowers: . I've posted it here before as I've developed process for treating and a hobby of cleaning, "saving" (for lack of a better term) and restoring bags and am happy to help if I can! There is a basic technique to applying the Garde but I've never had it leave spots on mine, as I said though results of course vary by user and this is just my experience and what I saw others share over time that originally convinced me to try treatment. The very first time I ever treated a new bag I was so nervous but reading and seeing what it could do made me swallow my fear and just go for it... it isn't for the faint hearted I will say if you have never done it!

But I just wanted to share my experience with it saving multiple bags from destruction and disaster! :shame:

Hi @Camaro Chic, just wanted to ask how the bags that have been sprayed with a water repellent are holding up? How is the wear and tear after a few years. I hope you don't mind me asking. I plan to spray a new speedyB with collonil. Thank you very much!

Does the 1909 collonil spray work the same as the collonil carbon/nano spray? I have only tried the 1909 spray on my leather shoes.
