Coffee, Vachetta, perfectly even Vachetta Patina and why Apple Garde is a must, not an option!

another newbie question :)
do you reapply your Apple Guard? I treated my PM with it right after I brought it home, but I am not sure whether this needs to be reapplied and, if yes, how often?

I am a newbie to vachetta and have just bought my first azur bag. I would love for the patina to develop slowly and evenly, so this threat is very interesting for me.

How is this apple guard applied? Is it difficult? I would hate to ruin my bag by applying a protective spray wrongly. How often do you refresh it?

By the way: your bags look amazing [emoji7]
did you check Shea Whitney video on YouTube about how she applies Apple Guard? She does it right in the video - check it out, it's very helpful!

I just ordered the Apple Brand Garde for my brand new Croisette. I watched every YouTube video on it I could find over the weekend and am convinced I want to use it to protect the vachetta of my bag. Whilst at it I saw the conditioner package and ordered it as well, it seems to be recommended for UGG boots and I have an older pair on which I will try it before applying it to my newer ones. The Apple Brand Garde is said to also protect the UGG boots well from rain stains, I am looking forward to checking this out in fall as well.

Can you please post a picture of apple Guard? I live in Germany and have to look in the internet for it and want to make sure that there is just one "right" product [emoji5]

I am from Germany as well and can tell you this: shipping is sooo expensive for us!!! But I am glad I found this one seller who is actually willing to ship to us! Most sellers do not ship to Germany at all.
When I ordered it there were two options, express and normal. Normally, I would choose normal, however, then the product would only arrive here between March 28 - April 12. So up to four weeks of shopping. Faster is express, which is an arrival between March 17 - March 22. But shipping then went up in price by a lot!!
As I want to use my bag as soon as possible I chose express. I can only recommend if you want to try it to plan ahead in time because the express shipping fee is unbelievably high..

I use Wilson Leather Water protecting repellent on my Pochette Metis vachetta and it works fine too. It darks on spraying and after a while it whiten again. I wait for it to dry down and then spray for the second time and its perfect. How often should I spray the repellent? 2 months or more?

Sorry everyone I used Scotchguard protector, not Wilson Leather. I live in Germany and you can buy it anywhere and on amazon

This is such an interesting thread! I am actually a bit against the pre-treating with Apple ( or anything else). My first bag, the NF MM in Azur, made me paranoid. I was afraid of the vacate and treated it with Apple. I can't overstate how careful I was. It left a residue. I can feel it every time I use the bag. Never again. My Mono NF GM was never treated and I MUCH prefer the feel/look of the straps. I have other bags with vachetta that I left alone, and they're fine. Just my experience. I sort of feel like if the vachetta were meant to be treated, LV would sell a product for that. Your bag is super pretty and glad it's ok!!!

I had the same experience with my first Neverfull and the spray actually left small spots as well. I totally agree, if LV thought it should be treated they would for sure sell the products themselves. Never again. My other vachetta bags are just fine untreated.

This is why Apple Garde is a NECESSITY for vachetta, suede and any natural or porous leather. Meet my beautiful preloved MC Alma. I've been waiting almost a decade to find this bag for a steal. My MC speedy was my ultimate holy grail but this bag has been longed for almost as much and I got it for $400 earlier this week and with IMO the perfect patina.

So tonight, I proudly toted her out with friends and she got complimented left and right. I was so proud! But I was almost physically ill after I tripped and my late night iced coffee splashed down the front of my new beauty . On the right side it ran from above the zipper pocket VVN trim all the way down to the bottom of the bag over the studded vachetta base.

Thanks to the previous owner and myself using Apple Garde, I wiped it off without a trace. Apple not only makes a bag patina more slowly, but much more evenly/uniformly with less handle darkening; it makes the patina process much prettier but it also saves the horribly difficult to care for VVN leather from liquids! It's saved my Artsy, which got caught in a thunderstorm and poured on for at least 30 seconds.

Get Apple Garde and follow the directions. Use it every few months if you carry the bag regularly. Apple will save you a LOT of misery and potentially money and help hold your bag's value, potentially doubling its visually pleasing lifespan! :flowers: I treat and restore bags regularly and I wanted to share how important this treasure of a product is. It's the only spray repellant/protectant i have found that won't darken Virgin Vachetta. It's less than ten dollars on amazon.

Photos of the "downpoured upon nearly giving me an apoplexy/seizure/meltdown" 5 year old Artsy in 2nd post. Apple has kept it to almost no patina and nearly flawless.

HTH! :flowers:
thanks for sharing!! super impressive that it truly worked with your coffee mishap. YAY!

My issue with new vachetta is that it doesn't patina nearly as beautifully as vintage pieces and I've found that it's much more even and prettier (on my bags in my experience, results may vary!) To use Apple Garde on pieces post-2006ish. I know the vachetta changed in the first part of this century (a longtime employee confirmed it and I've noticed a big difference). I didn't treat the speedy I bought new in 2006 and despite extremely careful handling it patina'd so weirdly and IMO looked so horrible that I ended up getting rid of it for a vintage one.

Treating the newer VVN has resulted for me in the bags being less likely to develop cracks in the VVN. Treating mine has resulted in the patina process being like it has been with my vintage pieces, which have all evenly and beautifully darkened. I don't mind a rain or water spot either but my mum had her keepall's lovely, even, 20 years' patina destroyed by baggage handlers insisting on checking it then leaving it sitting in an open trolley planeside in the rain with it sitting in a puddle of dirty water it appeared when we got it back; had she treated it I think the damage would have been much less visually appalling.

To each their own I completely agree; I should have added a caveat "must *for me*".

As far as LV sanctioned treatments, I have had a couple of their employees tell me, of course off the record and on the DL, that Apple is their personal product of choice and they've heard nothing but praise for it.

I don't have a pic currently but if you Google Apple Garde it's in a blue aerosol can with what look like water droplets all over it and there's a red apple logo above the text. :)

And I don't use the conditioner on new VVN as it darkens it. I only use LMB on my Virgin VVN. If anyone wants details of the process that works for me, just let me know or look under the posts I've started to see the threads :flowers: . I've posted it here before as I've developed process for treating and a hobby of cleaning, "saving" (for lack of a better term) and restoring bags and am happy to help if I can! There is a basic technique to applying the Garde but I've never had it leave spots on mine, as I said though results of course vary by user and this is just my experience and what I saw others share over time that originally convinced me to try treatment. The very first time I ever treated a new bag I was so nervous but reading and seeing what it could do made me swallow my fear and just go for it... it isn't for the faint hearted I will say if you have never done it!

But I just wanted to share my experience with it saving multiple bags from destruction and disaster! :shame:

After reading this thread I couldn't resist ordering a bottle of the Apple Garde spray. Last night I sprayed my delightful that I purchased this past summer and already had a slight patina as well as my LV espadrilles. Happy to report it worked flawlessly on both!! I was nervous after hearing people say they thought it made the VVN feel waxy, but it doesn't give that feeling to me at all! I was also nervous to spray a bag that already had a patina. Very happy to report excellent results [emoji5][emoji322]
