Coach ? Yay or Nay

Why would you care what anyone else thinks? I had a hard time with your opening sentence of “please no judgement”. Don’t buy something for anyone else’s eyes but your own. Buy what you love and use it. Who needs judgemental friends? I expect my friends to be supportive and kind and not judge me by the labels I do or don’t wear.
No judgments please! I have Burberry, LV, Prada bags in my collection. Recently while shopping for a crossbody bag, I came across Coach Cassie. It seems very practical and functional - but I am hesitant to purchase it because I wonder if it will be considered a step down by society/friends.

What would you all do?

PS : I did see the Pochette Metis but after seeing the quality issues several ladies had, dropping 2K on it that does not sit well with me.

Coach quality is great and Tabby is very stylish. It's a question of what you feel comfortable carrying. IMO your friends should care about you and how you're doing, not about what bag you're carrying...
LOL I said Tabby. Meant to say Cassie. Sometimes I feel like I need a babysitter to proof read what I write. :giggle:
Anyways, Cassie is stylish, and I love mine to bits.

I own bags throughout the price spectrum and wear them all as I see fit. Premier and contemporary designers do send a message to others, whether we like it or not, and I feel like Coach sends the message that I’m put together and fashionable, but also pragmatic. They’re perfect for when I want an outfit that says listen to me more than look at me.
THIS. Wise words. Whether we like it or not, people make judgments based on how we look/what we wear and carry, and treat us accordingly. First impressions are often made before a word is said.

I was having trouble deciding on this too for the Coach Carrie Backpack. I wanted a backpack that looked professional enough for work, carried a 13 inch laptop, and also had extra space for when I travel. Right now I own Prada, LV, Gucci, and Bottega Veneta so I was looking at designers around that level initially but I think I'm going to go with the Carrie. For my needs, I probably don't want an obviously high end designer backpack for travel and work because it could attract too much attention. Some designers do have label-less backpacks that are more low key but I'm not sure I want to pay $1500+ and not have the designers name on it. So guess it could depend on your use!

I get it...once you’re used to wearing “premier” brands, it can seem like going backwards. But that said, I agree with the above post about pragmatism. With quality issues and increasing prices, these days it can almost feel like buying premier puts a big “more money than sense” stamp on my forehead! Like they say, the most common vehicle driven by millionaires is not a luxury brand but a Ford F150 truck! I have a dear friend who works in financial services and owns several multi-million dollar homes, thinks nothing about dropping thousands on art, cars, vacations, etc...and will only buy Coach bags.

Anyway, imho Coach has some excellent quality and beautiful bags at totally reasonable price points. I LOVE their glove tanned leather and feel it looks more lux than many premier bags. I can’t speak for the Cassie in particular but it looks nice. Long story short...get the Coach bag and maybe your friends might go “Wow, that looks great...I forgot how great Coach can be!”

I own everything from cheap Amazon bags to Chanel. I wear all of them with zero shame. I could care less what others think. However, beware if actually say something derogatory to me about what I carry or wear. It’s no telling what will come out of my mouth.

I'm curious about your age. I have always had this attitude about not caring about others’ opinions. i know that some people never develop this sense of self or some don’t develop it until they are in their 40s.

I own the Cassie. I ADORE that bag, and it is my most worn. When I can’t decide what to carry, I choose that one. I tried the Pouchette Metis in store. Not impressed whatsoever.

I just bought a coach bag. I hopefully i will get it next week. I haven’t owned one since i cut my teeth on designer bags A looonnnnggg time agin. I saw someone list a coach bag on my local FB MP. It was a gorgeous red with pebble leather. I finally found out the style. Was a Kelsey, By that time the seller changed her mind. Lucky she did because the bag came in different sizes. She had the small and i found out there is a mini. I’m excited!!! I don’t care about the whole social thing. I’m just excited about the style!

I agree with @lenarmc. I could care less what people think. Love my Chanel/Hermes bags and will carry le pliage or the cuir leather crossbody Longchamp bags just as often. Same thing for jewelry - inexpensive right next to my more expensive piece just because I love it. Different styles for different needs and moments. I’m going to check out Coach bags as I had not looked at them in a very long time before this post!

I love bags and I have some very nice high end bags but I’m tired of the price increases during the pandemic and bags costing over $3000. It’s getting ridiculous, so the last bag I bought was an adorable kate spade vanity bag. Made me just as happy! I like the coach Cassie, have been eyeing it over the pochette Métis. Just waiting for the perfect color.
Thanks for your reply to this thread. I also have high end brands in my collection but find myself obsessing over this one Coach bag I saw. Idk why but I feel guilty, like I'm not allowing myself to buy a lower priced bag because I have all of these expensive bags sitting on my shelves, like I'm not doing them justice by opting to wear a lower priced bag.

This is an interesting thread, as I was also going through the same thoughts just recently haha. I love my premier bags but I've always went for black/dark colored bags because I'm very very scared of color transfer. It gets boring though so I was wanting a carefree contemporary bag. Then I saw someone's shelf with their Chanel 19 next to a Coach bag so I was like wow that's nice! I started looking into Coach just last month and got myself over 10 Coach bags so far lol. I fell in love!!! I purposely got them in brighter colors like pink (my fav color!) and even white to contrast with my premier bags that are mostly in black/dark colors.

I'm at the point in life where I'm 80% confident in who I am and don't care what people think but I'm not all the way there yet (getting there lol). I'd wear my Coach bags to work/weekdays, and for weekends, I'd wear my premier bags so that I still get to rotate them and get some usage.

I find that I really love my Coach bags because I'm wearing it even though no one else sees it. I just recently got the Lady Dior bag but after two days, I put it away to use my Coach Riley 22 bag (floral applique) haha. Also, since I don't really carry my Coach bags outside of work, there's less chance of color transfer, and if there was, at least it didn't cost me so much $. Actually, the first time I wore one of my Coach pink bags, I got a bit of color transfer on it while carrying it shopping and I was devastated because I fell in love hard with Coach lol. That's why I started wearing it mainly to work where there's no chance for it to rub against my clothes.

I think mixing premier bags and contemporary ones is very in now. Regarding what the peers may think, I'm sure by now they know that you have premier bags so if they see you with a Coach bag, they may just think that you're a bag lover/collector. They'll still see you with the premier ones and not just the Coach one(s) so I don't think they will think anything else of it. If they do then it's their problem haha.

In terms of society, I agree that people judge do from the outside right away. People look at me head to toe first before approaching me and I get different treatments depending on what I wear.

I was buying LV until they did about 11-12 price increases over 1 1/2 years (1 year of this was pandemic). I am over the price increases as the quality decreases. While I get companies are trying to make the most money possible, some are just over the top. I am over greedy companies and have stopped buying from them. I won't purchase from companies that act tone deaf.

Coach has good quality for their prices (some are fantastic deals and they could charge more actually). I could care less about what others think about my bags.

I don’t own any premiere bags but I can say that this is somewhat relative. I wear contemporary - Rebecca Minkoff and Coach. I like edgy but quality leather bags. I’m about to sell my MK tote bag that is barely worn bc I never reach for it but also bc it seems like MK is really out of style now. I’m no fashion expert so correct me here if I’m wrong lol! So for me, I like to be somewhat on trend and I can only imagine if I could afford premiere bags, how the original poster’s thoughts might creep into my mind as well. It’s true that we shouldn’t live by others’ judgment but being human is accepting that judgment is unavoidable. I like how others mentioned if you aren’t comfortable wearing the bag and not enjoying it, then don’t get it. But if you are missing out in something you love bc of fear of judgment, then I say you should be authentic to yourself and your own desires.
