Coach wants to be the American Louis Vuitton...

I think Coach is on the right track to make their brand more exclusive again. What tarnished their reputation is the mass production of the signature monogram bags. They need to stop focusing on the outlets and focus on the actual Coach boutiques. Also a good option would be to get rid of their sales in department stores like Macy's and Bloomingdales to further prevent their items from going on sale all the time, making it less accessible to give of the more "exclusive" vibe.

I don't think LV is superior to Coach in terms of quality. Their exclusive Parnassea and runway lines may be better but their regular collections seem to be the same quality as Coach. ((This is just my opinion based on my experience.))

I think Coach gets treated unfairly because of their lower price point and the fact that they cater to the "not so wealthy" folks. If you really think about it, A LOT of high end designers have huge sample sales and even make "outlet-only" items for their outlets. In general I feel American brands are always seen as secondary compared to European brands. A lot of amazing American leather goods brands are overlooked because of the fact that they are American so they may be of lesser quality than their European competitors, when this is not always the case. A good example is Ralph Lauren's Ricky line, the quality is TOP notch, probably one of the best stitching and craftsmanship I have ever seen, but since it is Ralph Lauren people deem it as a lower end bag you can find on sale at Macy's. As @fabuleux said above, Coach definitely has potential to become something like Longchamp. They just need to manage their production. Coach can continue producing in China or Vietnam if it is convenient for them, but they just need to chill out with the mass production, they can develop leather workshops in those countries, teach their workers true craftsmanship, and develop just as good bags as the ones from leather workshops in Spain, Italy, or France, just by taking the time to put care and love into the items they produce.

If the economy ever collapses I would much rather have gold than the Birkin. Good luck selling the Birkin then.

Same here. If you use the bag, it is going to lose its value pretty quick, and that goes for any bag. The Birkins that only hold their value are the the ones in perfect condition, the rest are meh. Gold was considered a form of currency and still sort of is to this day. Nothing like buying some gold. Diamonds may be a girl's best friend but gold will ALWAYS have your back no matter what.

Off topic....but...Gold is only valuable because we arbitrarily say it is, similar to the bones of bears or ivory tusks. If the economy were to go south in such a shocking way that all systems of paper currency became moot, having natural resources such as fresh water, access to arable land, medicinal vegetation or oil that could help with sustaining cities or small villages would be of the highest value. I think.

I don't think it's about name or quality. Reality is Coach is overinflated in our market. It's sold everywhere and often for cheap. LV may be everywhere on the hands of consumers, but the stores are far more exclusive and they never go on sale. MK is going to way of Coach, but for some reason, I think they may not fare as well as Coach.

True, the constant sale pricing of Coach items makes it seem like less of a luxury/splurge item. I was surprised to google an MK bag once and a link to Google Shopping - WalMart was at the top of the page! Definitely not good. I don't think WalMart does collaborations either (like Target or H&M), so I thought it was very bizarre.

I like the fact that I can get Coach on sale, but I also hate the fact that I can get Coach on sale because I will always be looking for the "best price" that someone else got. It's never ending.

Perhaps an Ad sponsor for the google shop? Walmart definitely doesn't carry mk's lol. As for Coach i know i rarely pay FP for anything in there, nope just not gonna happen.... if your patient and shop well, a discount will be had.

It is not the quality of an LV bag that is superior. I own plenty and they are no better made than any Coach, Dooney, etc. It is the perceived "status" of an LV bag that keeps the value inflated. Exactly what Coach is trying to emulate, but will have a long road to get there.
I don't agree. It matters what line a person is buying when it comes to quality. To me, the designs needs to improve to match LV. This opinion comes from a person that loves Coach too.

Sorry, but I would put a Coach Nomad or Rogue or Swagger up against ANYTHING made by LV. Coach has the quality and excellent designs; they just don't have the mystique.

Maybe against the basic pieces like never full or speedy, but have you ever actually handled a softlockit or cappuccines, the quality of those bags honestly blows the nomad or rogue out of the water, but you're also paying a 5-6 thousand price tag minimum for them. Not to mention I feel like Coach has really cheapened their repair policy, They're refusing to fix things they used to such as slightly frayed handles or ripped stitching on some areas of the bag. LV has an impeccable repair service, I've had pieces actually had the edge stain or stitching completely redone by LV, they also will replace straps (for a fee) but that entails that you're really able to keep using their product for a lifetime.
