Why does what you wear to the store have anything to do with how they treat you? That is terrible if they are treating people poorly based solely on what they are wearing, not only is it terrible it is discriminatory and unnacceptable business practices. You should all write Coach to tell them they would be astonished to know that some of their sales people are rude B******

LOL.. I re-read my post from earlier... Apparently nothing has changed!!

I went to NM today, with the intention of buying something and walked out empty handed because the SAs there are PITA!!!! :cursing:

However, I went to my Coach store and popped in to get the turtle keyfob... I find that in a situation like that, when you are looking for something and need someone's help - I just walk up to them and give them a point blank question.

I was at the Coach store today early, so the girls I usually see weren't there yet (one of them was just coming in as I was leaving), so although I "looked familiar" as one of the SAs that was there mentioned, they didn't know my life story etc... I basically just told one of them what I needed and kept it short and sweet...

ARGH... Darn NM, why can't the SAs there be more helpful/nicer?? They have such pretty bags...

Well, I can give a good report on the SAs at the Coach store in Fayette Mall in Lexington, KY. I went in today ~ straight from daughter's track meet, with her (still in track uni and hoodie), and her twin brother (thrilled to be the only 16 year old boy in the boutique.) My SA asked if I had received my last purchase (she remembered) and even asked about my Ergo tote (still in the bag in my closet.) I was dressed in flip flops and capri pants, with a hoodie as well. We browsed around and she showed me all the new stuff. The SAs there are great!

I went to the boutique today to pick up the turtle charm and was dressed in just jeans, flats and frizzy hair (very humid today, and we're under a tornado watch right now--yippee)!

The girl that helped me was very attentive and let me take my time; I get the impression she was a manager. I've found that most of the SAs are really nice at both boutiques and the outlet here, although I do run into a snippy SA now and again.

That said, I have to say I enjoy the Coach shopping experience.

Also, I have this strange affliction. I am allergic to people who are only nice to me b/c of the way I'm dressed or what I'm carrying. With three little kids, it's a wonder my shoes match some days, so some days I'm put together and some days I'm a chaotic mess.

I'm still a Coach lover, though, and if you treat me kindly, I'll probably leave with something!

Wow. I had great experiences in my store (International Plaza Mall). I even had a great experience when I returned the bag (Ergo Sig) because of the fit. They were very kind and let me try on any bag I wanted. I noticed a few that seemed snobbish but I didn't care. Maybe it's just that boutique. I've experienced horrible service however with people in Dillards and Macy's. Now I just walk by their counters with my new boutique Coach bags. :D

maybe I'm strange...but I don't like to be pestered at ALL when I'm shopping, I like the SA to say "hi, let me know if I can help" and that's it - walk away until I request your help! I don't like them to ask me a bunch of questions and make me feel pressured to buy a particular bag.

I don't think she even got that. That's what she's saying. I don't like to be "bothered" either, but let me know you know I'm here. :D

Personally, I prefer to be left alone in any boutique until I need help. I can't stand some SA buzzing around me like a fly - I like to look at things at my own leisure. As long as they are paying attention to me and come over when they see me looking up for some help (which 99% of the time they usually do). I think it helps that I'm usually carrying another expensive bag so they figure I got the dough and are all over me like a cheap suit when I'm ready to buy!

p.s. and before anyone asks, no, I don't care if anyone greets me or not. that is more a security procedure taught to all retail clerks so that potential thieves know they are being watched.

I feel discriminated against if I walk into a store and noone greets me or says "hi" or offers to help me, AND when someone else walks in after me and they greet them and ask them if they need help.
Walking around a store where people are being greeted, and helped while you just stand there is not fun.

kind of on topic - i had the total opposite experience recently at a bank. i recently opened an account at a new bank in the area and when i went it to cash a check, the manager was literally up my butt the whole time haha. she kept asking me questions and hovered over me as the teller took care of my transaction. i know she meant well and was just asking questions because she was curious as they are a new bank in the area, but it got a tad annoying and creepy.

I love the boutique by my house in Beachwood Ohio

The SA's are so nice and friendly and take the time even if they are behind the counter helping another customer to say hi and to ask if for their help if you need it. I have gone in to look at wristletts or keychains all the time and I get the same respect and care every single time.

Now im a 20 year old female who hates to dress up so during the winter its not unusually to see me in jeans, t-shirt, a hoodie, and a pair of converse sneakers with a LV, Kooba, or COACH with me.

My mom loves the boutique and she even will go out of her way even if we are in saks or dillards to go the boutique to buy the purse.

I also get the same treatment at the Saks in the same mall. The SA's recognize me everytime and they always show me whats new even though I never purchase anything there. (My mom does and they do see me with her all the time)

Bottom line, I think it just depends on the SA's. Some of you have stores where all the SA's are always pleasant and courteous. Some have so-so experiences with the SA's at stores, and some have come to believe that it's their lucky day when they actually find a helpful SA.

I have friends that will no longer shop there, the SA's are so rude....my friends mom told her you had to be middle aged and dressed to the nines to get any attention from them....they don't like to help the "lookyloos" ....Very Sad.

I have gotten this as well. I travel a lot between two states. In one state I can't get them to leave me alone. It is a mixed area where some people wear outerwear and others wear mid-priced labels. In the other state where everyone is in designer (it's a rich, ritzy area) I can't get help. I usually look put together with mid-priced clothing and designer shoes/bag.

I have similar experiences with Nordstrom and other stores where the SAs work on commission. I don't see this very often in stores like Ann Taylor where they aren't on commission.

There was an article in Glamor magazine a few years ago. The writer went shopping in upscale stores and was judging how much help she received. She dressed in sweats, all designer carrying high-end shopping bags, and somewhere in between. She said she couldn't keep them away when she shopped in the designer clothing and received no help when she shopped in sweats.

I do believe SAs who work on commission size you up by what you are wearing.
