Before I embark on this acetone journey, I'm re-reading the listing on eBay and the seller said "This is the Coach original Orangie-Red" I took that to mean this was the original finish on the bag. I spent way too much because i thought it was untouched and original. I'm thinking this means the bag might qualify as being "not as described". Just want an opinion from y'all before I start the process of asking the seller to let me return it.
Will they argue that I should have clarified that thought about the finish on the bag being original?

I don't think you needed to clarify. I'm not sure it has been painted, but if it wasn't, what is the red on the hardware? The lack of the leather covers on the dowel might qualify as not as described, since the listing states that there are no holes, rips or tears, and the piping is intact. Can you pick any of the red on the hardware off with your fingernail? Is it possible that it is just tarnish?

If you decide to try to return, contact the seller first before opening a return request.

Thanks for your replies....It's definitely not tarnish. The color is a dead on match for the overall color of the bag. If it has just been that the leather was colored, I would have grumbled but gotten over it, chalking it up to a learning experience. But they shipped it in the tiniest darn bag and charged $15 dollars shipping. I took a picture before I opened it because I was so horrified....The way it was folded in half stretched the opening a bit around where the turnlock is fastened so it's a bit damaged too- so this started out badly before I even got the wrapping open. I used the coke can just to show scale....thumb_IMG_0694_1024.jpg

They paid postage for a flat rate envelope, which costs about $5.95 on ebay. There's no excuse for this! They could have fit it in a medium flat rate box, that would have cost around $12, still less than you paid. Keep in mind that ebay took $1.50 of that shipping cost, and paypal took a bit too, but still you overpaid for the shipping method that was used.

Oh I hope you get your money back. The visible wooden dowel alone should do it. It was not as pictured or described. This makes me sick like when I got what was to be a coral Candace from Poshmark and they took magic pictures making it look all the same color. It had bizarre fading and was 3 or more extreme colors. I started to shake. I won't bore you with pics of frakenbag. But I got my money back.

Sounds like you're pretty annoyed with this whole experience (I would be too!) so why not contact the seller for a return? I would think the 3 reasons you have would be enough for eBay even if the seller balks. My understanding is that the responsibility of accurately communicating the condition of the bag lies with the seller, not the buyer - caveat venditor!
After acetoning paint and possibly nail polish yesterday, I can say it's easier to remove than shoe polish if you decide to keep it [emoji846]

I'd say you have a case for a SNAD. The red smears on the hardware are themselves a defect, and the seller should have disclosed that the bag had been dyed.

Thanks ladies! You've made me feel better...and resolved. Have asked seller to take it back. Of course afterwards I started wondering if I should just get over myself and keep it. But this morning I've realized if I did keep it, I'd be irritated - working on it and whenever I even looked at...reminded of how I got hosed. Decided life is too short to work on something that makes me unhappy. My new motto! Thanks again for the encouragement and sharing my indignation.

LOL I just got a messenger bag delivered in this improvised double box. I'm impressed! I was wondering how they would ship it!
That's a great idea! I've tried making my own boxes before and it doesn't work well. Sometimes I have to use a larger box than I want because I can't find anything that is exactly the right size.

Hi! I did purchase the Nomad in I think the color is Cornflower Blue. It was the one with the dark ink stains and sticky stuff on the liner.
I tried 3 different methods for the ink: rubbing alcohol, hair spray, and nail polish remover. I found that the rubbing alcohol worked the best by lightening the stain but it removed some of the lining color.
I was able to remove the sticky stuff with nail polish remover but again it removed some of the color. Then I used 2 coats of Coach leather cleaner and moisturizer on the inside and outside of the bag. Overall I am pleased with with the results and when the liner is in the bag its not really noticeable.
