@whateve do you rinse after? If not wouldn't rit dye transfer on to me (clothing etc). Because washing alone did not work. This has always been my bag Btw, not a rescue. I've never had this type of issue before. But I only own two jacquard bags.
I don't think I rinsed. There was no color transfer. If possible, try to iron it to set in the stain.

That might work. I wonder if spraying it with a light mist of water then just smoothing it down might work? Or a light mist before the blow dryer then just smooth it down with your fingers? I guess it depends on just how stiff the bends in the leather are.

Thank you for your advice, I will try easy ways then move onto other ones if necessary.

I wouldn't use masking tape at all. I'm afraid it would leave a difficult to remove residue. There's a pink tape women use to hold bangs or other stylized areas in place. I remember this from years ago but it can still probably be found. lol I'm old! ha ha
But it doesn't leave any residue.

Yes, I am afraid that could happen, thank you.

Found this tough case in a thrift shop for $4. I don't like metallics, but I thought I'd buy it for the challenge because it was so cheap. Didn't someone use acrylic paint on a fading metallic bag recently?

I have used metallic acrylic paint successfully on bags, and recently used it to rehab the Katy tote, see link below:
https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club.833400/page-982#post-31650475

See below for another thread about using paint on metallic leather bags, one thing that I have discovered is that the color of the paint may change slightly with age, so it is better to paint the entire section, rather than just the worn spots.

Another tip, I got masking tape for delicate surfaces at the hardware store or Home Depot. You can use it to protect the non-metallic portions of the bag without damaging the surfaces.

Another alternative is metallic pigments mixed with conditioner and/or acrylic. I've used these many times with great success (except on a suede-y Poppy shimmer bag disaster, but that's another story...)

Thanks, whateve
It's super gross so I will happily chuck it in the wash!

I put one like that, basically intact with some surface soiling,
in the washer, in a zippered pillowcase, and she came out great! A more damaged bag with filthy worn nubuck taught me the lesson that not all bags can be rehabbed.
Lol, I thought everyone around here had sworn off nubuc!

Good morning fellow rehabbers, if this question has been asked before, I'd appreciate someone directing me to the link.

I'm considering getting what I assume is a polished/glazed calf leather wallet, unlined. I know they recommend moisturize/polish it in more or less standard way, but did any of you have experience with washing it? And is this kind of leather washable at all?

Thank you in advance!

Excellent, just what I wanted to hear! Thank you both
Because I am a recovering perfectionist and have a bunch of leather tools and scraps

Thought I'd try making a matching one, but I'll probably just end up painting it. The end wasn't painted when I got it, but I have some that were.

Hi, I'm new but have been lurking quite a bit. I have just received my first Willis from an eBay auction. I had it authenticated on the eBay site before buying but now that it's here in my hands I have some questions....The wooden dowel is showing and it's been painted? Is that right? (Dowel wasn't pictured in auction) I thought they were always covered in leather? Also it's got some kind of paint on the brass turnlock and "snaps/claws"...Concerned it's the dreaded shoe polish I've read so much about here. Appreciate any insight you can offer. If the authentication was incorrect, I would love to know so I can return it to seller...And if it just that the "leather caps" on the dowel are missing (didn't know there was such a thing) I'd love to know that too.

It's authentic. The dowel is supposed to be covered with leather. Sometimes it comes off. I bet it isn't shoe polish but it is some kind of paint. There shouldn't be any red on the brass. Try wiping the leather with acetone and see what comes off.

Thanks so much....Will that affect the color? (The bag was folded in half and stuffed into a USPS envelope instead of a box?! Amazed it survived the trip.) After the acetone do I just dunk and moisturize?

The acetone should remove at least part of the paint that may have been used on the bag. I think the red on the hardware is proof some kind of paint was used. Since red shoe polish is hard to find, it is more likely paint or dye than polish. The bag doesn't look like it was painted recently. I would expect the color to be more even, and the texture shiny and plasticky if it was painted heavily. Dunk in extra warm water and let soak for 20 minutes. Lightly scrub to see if any more color comes off. You can soak the hardware in vinegar.
