It will lighten, just wait a week or so and you will love how it looks. You should also do the strap so they match. The color will be a bit deeper than it was but it will look better after a bit I promise! I often use this on light, older bags and it always looks horrible at first as it goes on unevenly, you get streaks and blotches. Then they just disappear after a few days and the overall color is more even and richer.

I concur!

I don't know what happened, but there are now darker spots on Andrea that weren't there when I dunked it. I made sure to rinse it thoroughly (or so I thought). Do I dunk it again? Has this happened to anyone else and what worked for you? Thanks!

This happens sometimes with dunking. Is it completely dry? After conditioning and time, sometimes the darker spots will fade.

This bag was discussed in the Authenticate thread and I believe someone posted a picture of the creed. It was determined to be probably authentic even though most of the creed was unreadable.
Oops, I missed that one. I was staying away from that thread for awhile and had unsubscribed in an effort to focus more on my rehab projects. I can't help but click every link to learn more when I read that thread. [emoji12]

Hello everyone. I am brand new to the club and have a BIG problem. I used obenaufs leTher oil on my old carrier bag and it worked great! The leather feels like new and the fading of the mahogany color disappeared. I thought great! Then... I used it on my British Tan stewardess bag and what a disaster! The color darkened. I will try to post the pictures. The strap is original color. Please oh please tell this idiot novice,me, what to do.

I'm glad you posted this and that @Belicious had encouraging words. I've been hesitating to use even the paste version of OB on lighter bags, but now I will jump in the deep end and try Montana oil. So thanks!
Please do post after pics and let us know how it absorbed.

Berkeley field bag. Just needs a few stitches.
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/263013654220

I won this  Hope it's not too hard to fix. Might have to glue it if it's too hard to sew.

Plus I got this amazing deal on an old girl for my courier family and it came today. It's really not in bad shape but it's scary dirty and has a couple of ink stains that go through. Dab of paint might be the fix for those... This seller obviously didn't know what he/she had, as evidenced by the backwards tongue.

...That's good to hear about the China bag. I rehabbed a 1999 China bag that had leather just as nice as US bags. Maybe the China bag recovered so well because the dents were fairly new and the leather was still really supple. I think some of the China bags are inferior. It's probably later. I think around 2013-2014, I saw some really terrible classic bags at the outlet. That was the same time period, I returned several FOS purchases because the leather was horrible.

I agree. The newer China bags feel stiff and the leather thin. I would not buy one of those.
I meant to thank you, whateve, for mentioning in one of your posts some time ago, that you used an old electric toothbrush for cleaning/polishing brass fittings. It makes the process quite easy. Not a chore at all.

The British Tan Willis that I rehabbed recently was made in China in 2013 and the leather was just as soft and thick as the older classic bags. But I do remember some "modern classics" from a few years ago that had thin, stiff, shiny leather that scratched easily - I wasn't impressed!
