Guys, I have an issue. I bought a beautiful leather Carly from Goodwill that was dirty as hell and smelled like smoke. I dunked it and now the colors won't stop running. The leather and the fabric inside are both running. I've rinsed several times and it won't run clear.
Should I keep rinsing or maybe throw it in the washer?? (Don't worry I've done this before). I don't want everything I put in it to turn purple!

I'd give it a run through the washer. Even without the problem of the colors running - it's really hard to get rid of smoke smell!

I probably wouldn't have dunked! I am very surprised the fabric is running. I've washed linings in plenty of newer bags and the linings are usually colorfast. If the leather is bleeding, I wouldn't wait for the water to run clear. It might never. If the soap is rinsed out, that is enough rinsing for me. Dry it off. You might have to put it outside for a few weeks in fresh air to get rid of the smell. You can also wipe it down with alcohol. That sometimes helps, but it dries out the leather, so you'll need to condition. Personally, I wouldn't put it in the washer. Your hardware will get banged up.

It was really dirty but the leather was in really good shape, that's why I dunked it.
I have probably "rehabbed" 50 bags and I've NEVER had any that ran like this one. I was surprised to see it happen too.
For reference...

I need a little help. I've aquired a Coach Turnlock Borough bag in black pebbled leather over christmas (a gently-used item), and since my high school had begun renovations that are to take place over the next two years around early january there's a lot of dust around the place and different types of construction-related equipment that i keep bumping my bag into without noticing, and it's left a couple of grey patches that seem like the leather is being ruined or something?? i don't know, but does anyone have any clue as to what is happening and maybe tips on how to stop and reverse the damage, such as re-dying the leather or anything?

First I would try conditioning. Maybe it is just dusty. Conditioning can also protect it from further damage. If necessary, there are products you can use to restore the color.

It looks amazing, you did a great job! I would have considered this bag a "strap and hardware donor" and never even attempted to rehab it!

She looks great! I don't know of any way to deal with the wrinkles...but to me, they're part of her character.

This looks great! I have the same bag but in black also with very similar piping issues. I have worked on it for a long time but never been entirely satisfied. The piping damage on mine is in the same place as yours but also more on the flap so very visIble.

I love how the piping has aged to a different color on yours. Great patina! Don't worry about the wrinkles too much.

here. for some reason the forum won't process the pictures of the other two corners, but they look pretty much the same as these two. I did acquire it as a used item but it was barely worn and i've used it for maybe three months in total of this year since i switch bags often.
