Without sending them to a bag expert coz cleaning services costs a lot.. i got them from a thrift ********** 20 dollars hoping i can restore them mk is on pebble leather while coach is a cowhide leather
Wow, those are really dirty! I'd try to clean them with vinegar. I think you will have to redye in order to get results you'll be happy with, at least on the Coach. You could use Wood n Stuff Leather Refinisher http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leather-Refinish-Color-Restorer-Dye-/322065155923 They have their own website too.

Sometimes when you clean, you remove the dye with the stain, and the darker color of the leather shines through. You might try hydrogen peroxide to see if it bleaches it out.

Paint. What color is your bag? Once I painted RIT dye remover on an ink spot. It lightened the area around the ink but that made it easier to cover with paint. You could also try bleaching it with zit cream.

If I may piggyback on this topic, did you re-dunk after working on the ink again? Or once you've dunked, is the ink set in forever? Gulp.
I have an inked British tan Dover tote that needs a 2nd round of work. I made progress but worked it so long w/ dye remover/hairspray/alcohol the 1st time, I started to get nervous about over-stressing the leather. I assumed I'd need to redunk after round 2, to wash off everything I intend to throw at it out of desperation.
Thoughts are welcome! [emoji846]

I don't think you should dunk until you finish working on the ink. The water might set it, making it more permanent. That would be more likely if the water is warm or hot.

Hello, I purchase a vintage bag for my Mother for Christmas in the picture off ebay. I own the Apple cleaner and conditioner set. I also have Cadillac Boot & Shoe leather lotion. Wondering if these products have been used on Coach bags? Also can black shoe dye be used to touch up light corners? I hope to buy more bags for myself. I may just spend the extra $20- $30 on a nicer bag than go the total rehab route any thoughts on this? Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you

Lots of dunks going on over here!!!!
Newbie to rehab coach and this tread. Can you explain the reason for a full dunk and soak? Is this due to odors or just dirty?

I am going to attempt to rehab a vintage bag for a gift. If my first one works I may be off to the thrift store for a few more. I appreciate your assistance and sorry if this was already discussed. I love the way the bags came out. I love that Dooney too!

Welcome to the rehab club! For your Court Bag, if it's nice and clean already, you could just use some Apple conditioner on it. You could mix a tiny bit of black shoe cream such as Meltonian into the conditioner to apply to the worn corners, if the conditioner alone doesn't improve them (it might). Black fabric paint can also be used. Shoe dye is permanent, and there might be a color difference, so I would probably not use that.

There are several reasons for the full dunk and soak. It opens up the pores of the leather to allow the conditioner to penetrate (much like your skin and hair when you get a spa treatment!) It also allows the bag to be reshaped as it dries, restoring its original shape, or close to it. You would be able to reshape your Court bag if you bathed it.

The bath does remove soils and some odors, but it can sometimes bring out hidden odors or stains that weren't noticeable before. It's best to practice on an easy, inexpensive bag at first. Black is a good color to start with; lighter colors show stains more clearly. If you like the process, you'll want to do more -- it's addictive! If not, then spending a little more for a nicer bag, in a color and style you love, is the way to go.

Please don't use shoe polish! I recommend a bath and complete conditioning. It makes a big difference over just conditioning. You can use your conditioners. I like Cadillac. You might need a deeper conditioner like Leather CPR. Whatever you use, I recommend a finishing coat of Blackrock Leather n Rich. It will make a huge difference. You probably won't even need to touch up the corners if you use it. If you really want to touch up the corners, all I would use is a drop of black acrylic craft paint mixed in with conditioner.

Welcome to the rehab club! For your Court Bag,==

Thank you for the advise. I look forward to trying your methods of restoring these bags. The court bag I purchased appears to be in pretty good shape in the photos. I will be sure to share before and after pictures.

These vintage Coach bags bring back great memories. I first owned them when I dated and married my husband over 20 years ago. I look forward to buying and rehabbing a Coach station bag that was my very first designer handbag.
Thanks again, DianaP

Thank you for the advise, no shoe polish for my bags. I am very happy I was able to get your advise prior to trying.
