I was curious! What's the difference between shoe cream and shoe polish? Here's the scoop:

Shoe cream
is basically a leather conditioner with pigments in it. It penetrates the leather. It contains no wax so it does not hinder leather conditioner being applied later. It will produce a moderate shine when buffed.

Shoe Polish
contains wax, pigments, and acetone-like chemicals to keep it pliable. It sits on top of the leather and produces a glossy shine when buffed. The downside is it clogs the pores of the leather. This means it will build up over time and makes it very hard to apply conditioner to the leather, unless removed. The acetone-like chemicals in shoe polish can also dry out the leather.

Blackrock Leather n Rich contains carnauba wax, and other "trade secret" ingredients (beeswax? lanolin? eye of newt?)
It contains no pigments or dyes as far as I can tell. It "cleans, softens and preserves" the leather and produces a beautiful mellow glow when buffed.

Nice! I'll have to try this!
FYI, it didn't work for ink though. Does anything? Lol!

Try zit cream (benzoyl peroxide). Get the highest concentration you can get and only apply it to the spot. Put in the sun for a few hours. Then clean it off and see if it worked. If not, you can try it again and leave it on longer. Warning, it could lighten it lighter than your leather color, but it will be easier to paint over than the ink.

I always forget buy that darn zit cream. Putting it on my phone as a reminder. Lol. Thanks!

Hello,
Update and a few more questions please. I purchase more products to clean my bag off ebay which saved me time from driving around town. My bag will probably be delivered at the same time anyway.
Purchase: * Leather CPR, * Blackrock * horse hair brush = Total $37.36 cost as much as the original bag. I hope to get more used from these products.

Can these be used on the Newer Coach bags and other bags I won like Dooney and Bourke Florentine leather?

What is the price range you would pay on a TEST bag? I know everyone has a different budget. Just wondering as a newbie "good " range since this could end up being expensive. Also best color black or brown?

Are there any YouTube Videos with the dunk process? When to you start to condition with CPR after the dunk process is done?

Thank you again for your help. I am really excited about rehabbing some bags for myself and for family as gifts.

Welcome!

Your purchase of Leather CPR and Blackrocks will last a long time. Your brush will last forever. CPR is fine for your new bags, though you honestly won't need something as strong as it for newer bags. It is a high quality conditioner.

I wouldn't pay any money for a "test" bag. Find a bag you like, and rehab it. My first rehabs are still some of my favorite bags. Black is very forgiving, and most vintage Coach bags were dyed through the hide, so black is usually easiest to rehab.

As far as dunking, I usually leave my bags soak anywhere from 15 to 30+ minutes depending on the bag. Make sure that you get all the soap rinsed out or the bag will be stiff. Don't overstuff it or you will stretch the leather. I usually start conditioning while the bag is still damp.

If you are really serious about learning to rehab, I encourage you to read the entire thread (and all of the old one). It is a lot to read, but worth it.

Good luck!

I'm not familiar with the newer Coach bags, but I have worked with a Dooney Florentine (love it!) For newer bags that are not dried out, a creamy conditioner like Lexol or Apple would be my first choice. A light treatment of Leather CPR or Blackrock would be OK, if the bag is a bit more worn.

For a test bag, I try not to pay more than $20-25 including shipping.

I searched YouTube briefly and didn't find any videos that I could recommend. You could try searching this thread (and the older one, http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-clubhouse/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-624452.html) for specific tips and techniques. Here are a couple of recent posts to get you started:

I agree with Catbird9. It would be difficult to find something under $20 including shipping on ebay. If you have a thrift store near you, you might be able to find one for less. Once I won an auction on ebay for a bag that was in such bad condition I won it for $1.69 plus $10 shipping. You probably don't want to get one where the corners have worn through or have other structural issues unless you really want a challenge. Some bags are so bad that even experienced rehabbers can't do much with them. Look for a bag with fading rather than stains.

You start with the CPR when the bag is nearly dry.

I use CPR and Blackrocks on my newer bags and I've used them on Dooney.

Some times you can find vintage coach on Merceri and Posh for under $20 but do not buy from there before authenticating first on tpf. I learned my lesson the hard way. [emoji17]

Thank you my Willis has faded corners. Hard to avoid this. I think I can make her work.
